Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She'd already returned to patrolling the borders. So far, nothing new. It kept her occupied -- for now, at least. She was still feeling like perhaps she should go wandering afield again though. Perhaps it was just being antsy. She just felt like she needed to ensure that she was looking out for herself -- sure, she was perfectly willing to aid a pack, but if she needed to make a change, this was prime time of year to do so. Coming here had been Terance's idea more than hers anyway.

Despite her thoughts, it otherwise changed nothing of her routine. Patrols were good for thinking. For her it was like quiet meditation in a sense. Weigh the good and the bad as she walked along and checked the mark on a rock. Continue on, pause at a deer track, search the scent for its relative health, move on while thinking about what the worst case may be. Forward again until she paused again, scanning the horizon outside the territory -- what was she willing to sacrifice? Probably not much, this was Arbiter after all.

Ara went as far as she was allowed to. She was growing into her paws, slowly becoming more and more into a deviant as her body morphed and shifted to how she was destined to be ; a less puppy-like. Obvious in so she was more angled compared to some, primal, even, with features pointing out and the most able to see was her stormy-yellow eyes. Buzzing bee, that was proudly announced against her other siblings eye colors. One way or another all seemed different — a bit, anyway.

Her range of movements throughout the mountain was slowly expanding as she grew within a confidence, but obviously so, never without @Hydra permission. She managed to scout the mountain more. Inhale the trees, intake the scents that roamed through and who tended the borders more then not, and those who were more to the peaks of so. She could see what birds preferred what areas, such as @The Eagle, and she could tell how strangely enough, it seemed a few herds found their way to the mountain itself.

How peculiar, Ara so thought as she gazed at a sighting and then — there was her. A narrowed view, distances away and catching site of Arbiter.

Scorpius often found himself with someone these days, whether that be a sibling or a fellow packmate. And this not by happenstance. The more he grew into the young man he was becoming, the more Scorpius began to understand that Hydra was more than his mother. She was something greater to the entirety of Empyrean -- and, he thought, surely this made him something, too.

The realization had not yet gotten to the prince's head, however. Rather he felt tickled by what this meant for his involvement with his older packmates. Surely it was both his duty and his pleasure to acquaint himself with them!

And so, day by day, he made his progress. Putting names to faces, faces to skills, and doing his best to remember. Suffice to say he struggled to pull the name of the woman he caught patrolling today as quickly as he liked. Even when he greeted her with a chipper, "Hello!" and a happy wave of his tail, his mind was turning in mental gymnastics to remember what he'd heard others call her before... "Are you patrolling?" he asked, even if he knew the answer would probably be obvious. He squinted towards the place she'd been scanning and said, "never much to see, is there?" though he had very little experience to speak on.

All the while, his sister went unnoticed, having approached from the opposite side, and standing at a place from which his attention was fully averted.

She was quick to hear she wasn't alone -- someone's steps caught her ear, but the wolf who appeared was quite young. Unlike the previous children she'd dealt with, the boy was far more chatty. Was that a good or a bad thing? Arbiter would probably find out soon enough, but she was a tough cookie to impress, and his sister hadn't done him many favors. “I am.” Bit of a hypocrite when one of Arbiter's gripes had been Ara didn't speak much at all. Speaking of, she hadn't spotted her lurking quite yet -- Scorpius had pulled her attention a different way and been more obvious about his approach (Arbiter had probably done more of the approaching Ara's way), and she'd paused to observe him before she'd go back to looking towards where her paws were pointing her and spot Ara then.. So, next post.

But hey, she did have a second point to expand on so she wasn't totally being annoying, “In this case, nothing means good. It means that all are respecting the borders. It means the pack is strong. But because nothing happens, it doesn't mean you can just not do it.” A pause, “Have you been on many patrols?” Other than with Hydra. She hadn't tagged along so wasn't sure how Hydra's syllabus was set up for how to teach children to be productive pack members.

Ara didn't like Arbiter — only due to childhood grudge of the other not taking her to a fasctinating place of burnt wood. Though, she knew logically it was dangerous ; but couldn't set her curious soul downwards. The woman was loyal at the very least. As Ara observed within the backdrop, she was a tall woman, taller than her mother and had similar prowess, but yet to see the strength of the other. A mighty fine assortment into Empyrean, she thought — as her golden eyes soon trailed to her brother.

He too was growing, much like her father. Though like most of the litter, rather average within height — definitely more talkative. She wasn't going to approach until saw the eyes glance over to her, and back to her brother. Thus, she approached silently, announcing herself lightly while stepping next to Scorpius.
