Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

“What are you guys up to?” He thought back to his conversation with Valeska - though he blew the figures in the skies off and couldn't possibly be more weary of these new lands of theirs, he was still curious as to what they could possibly be and why they would appear when they did. Were they living? Or just some kind of cosmological event?

Moving from the mountains as a new morning began to roll over, the skies brightened and the celestial beings faded with the stars. The closer the approached to what felt like sea air around him, heavy, humid - the humidity grew with a dense fog surrounding the High King far from home. Paw prints in the sand indicated this was a highly trafficked area and ears swivelled attentively wondering if he had unknowingly trespassed on some pack's property. Who knew how old these prints were, but there were enough for him to keep on his guard.

Silently he moved southward, keeping light on his toes through the sand with his senses on high alert to listen and watch the mist for any aggressors approaching.

The beaches seemed awfully bustling lately — that she found herself constantly within the confronting of others. Though nothing enough that counted toward a brawl or a real warning, but enough where she wondered if there was a movement elsewhere ; or at the very least, a coincidence itself. Were The Ancients trying to send wolves with a warning, or a blessing? A mixture of new and old friends to the waking of this daunting beach, and yet any true troubles come through. But that didn't mean Vendrussel let her guard down, as on the wind another scent was there.

How unusual she so thought, as the smell of a pack was heavy upon them compared to the rest — but the smell indicated someone of being alone, at the very least, so she hoped. Sometimes the brine air gave trouble to truly tell who may be around, and if some were smart enough, could hide themselves within the ocean. She hadn't met any like so, only individuals that seem to wash upon the beach, rather then intentionally hide.

Either way, the scent seemed familiar ( meeting Quicksilver ) but she couldn't make it out, like it was a meeting long ago. A curiosity, at the very least as she raised her head and tail and sought after the individual within this morning. Who else was wandering upon Dragonford beach?

Someone lurked in the mist as far as he could tell. That feeling of someone watching you raising the hairs along his back uncomfortably. He wanted nothing to do with someone who would just watch him without approaching or saying a single word, but instead lurk around in the mist beyond his vision. Auds swivelled cautiously, carefully listening to the sand should the sound of paws disturbing the shores approach from any space around.

Perhaps he too wasn't completely found out either and he could silently pad his way through and find a path out of this heavily travelled piece of land. The High King didn't like having two of his senses stripped from him after all... Relying solely on his sense of hearing had put him on a razor-thin edge. Every step he took was carefully placed to make as little noise as possible so he could listen to the other that lurked.

She found the man, dark in figure through the mist itself. Though strange, if she were to point out as ocean eyes gathered more closely to his form — like he was mottled as if a dog itself and thought, what if to be the father of the child they had found on the beach? But even though his colors and style may seem so, she observed everything that he was, was a wolf in itself. It crossed, and she doubted and thrown the thought away especially as how different they were, even if the synonym of 'dog' was within the thoughts.

"You don't seem like you are from around here," she said as she introduced her presence, not knowing that the stranger overall had difficulties finding her throughout the bonethick fog, and only the sounds of her paws crunching against the sands as a key. Even through this salt though, she could tell he was of a pack — not one from around here, one who didn't smell either of Northfall or Frostchant..

Vendrussel wondered if he was a scout ; but smiled in a friendly-tone and raised her head within a pride. Even if her land was within the isle, they tried to claim the brim as a hunting ground. Though weak in scent for their bodies more protected what was important, then the fighting over the sands. Though she so wished the scents would remain, it often felt like a fruitless endevour. At the very least, she, can meet anyone at their unofficial grounds.
