Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Igor had decided he’d had enough of exploring the vastness that was his new home and instead settled on trying his paw at hunting. The scent of caribou had lured him in and his age showed its wisdom when he managed to find the sickly sweet smell of an old and sick female.

The only problem he faced now was the fact that he was built more for taking down these large creatures. His bulk didn't make him very fast; he wouldn't be able to keep up without some kind of chaser to slow them down. That said he certainly had the endurance to go for long periods of time if he paced himself. He could wear them out that way, but then that risked him having to drag the carcass back to the pack. No, it would be better if he had a partner, but he could do without just as well. He didn't know how long this herd would stay here and he wasn't eager to find out.

The frosted woodlands were quiet, eerie with a sense of unfamiliarity that settled deep and harsh within her bones. The Vale wasn't something strange to her; as a young doe, she'd raised herself alongside the steady stride of Cassian, propelling themselves forward through mountains of snow with every desire to grow. They'd both lost their footing, but the land they traversed remained the same. Perhaps, amidst their own struggle, it had lost its previous luster—utterly dissolved in time with their own.

Green eyes danced across the brown backs of grazing deer, slipping between their nimble feet in an effort to find one worth her chase. She didn't need Cassian's permission to stay within the lands of her home, she didn't need his approval or his judgment. If her presence was truly an issue, he was more than welcome to sprain himself in an attempt to pry her away. She would bid her farewells to him but the land was just as much hers as it was his.

However, since finding herself home again, the woman has forfeited her hunger in the face of addressing her past. Across the field she would linger, slinking through the wintered embankment as she scoped out the herd with an ease she'd mastered since being away. The appearance of another, a blur of white she'd guess if she looked, stood just on the other side—just another large shift of snow.
