Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

What the fuck is happening.

That was not part of the tundra, and by no means was there on the very previous day Vendrussel saw. Once a mountain claimed by unknown, a large one across the tundra itself and to see even far away from her own isle ; it could be seen enough. Yet one look later, but seemingly felt like a blink of her eyes, did that same peaks disappear within a flash of the night, and something else.. Seemingly appeared.

Surely she wasn't the only one who saw what was happening, or the only one who was heading to the area. And she, for a good second, thought maybe she was seeing things. A dragon who was born within the tundra waters knew not of the tropical lands, or the general warmer forests. She only knew of ice, frosted pines and waters that chilled to the very bones — not the heat that was emitting from this very land. Even from distances away would she sweat, and twitch her ears to the sound of unfamiliar noises.

The tundra is barren, snow-laced land and yet.. Yet? She could see fruit unlike the season, unlike what Vendrussel has seen, upon the very trees of this unknown garden. She approached with a haste, but a sweating haste and confusion. Hackled raised in a a wary way, and yet her eyes contradicted what her body said with it all-too twinkling at what this may be.

She thought the storms represented something, something that the Ancients were upset about — yet instead they took away a peak itself, and brought but a torrent of warm weather and luxurious lands to another. A place that is known for the temperatures of the cold and the hard survivals ; but the someone, something, gave but a blessing to some of these lands.

.. But Vendrussel questioned what were The Ancients plans. She believed in not Gods or Deities, but beings that were powerful enough to move the world itself, and be like those called those names. Dragons of the land, grabbing what they so choose and taking it elsewhere, and was the only explanation, she could think. With a claw they grabbed from somewhere unknown and planted in the midst of the tundra itself.. But why take a mountain?

Where did those wolves go?

The noises she could hear from the outside had a constant of ear twitchings, and head peaking in, debating whether she should, or should not continue.

He trudged across the open tundra.

Back, again, against all holy and godforsaken odds, in the northern reaches of the world. Delivered—pushed—first, from an anthill-turned-tide pool on the crashing, pooling ocean shores, fire ant borne, and then struck across the lands, across rolling foothills and mountaintops.

And now—

Now, the fucking tundra.

The tundra, where, instead of a mountain, was now a fog.

A thick, heavy, blanketing fog.

Heat, radiating from its outermost edges. The light around it unnatural, with towering shadows projected. A cacophony of sound, coming from within.

His hackles rose.

His muzzle furrowed.

He turned.

“The fuck is this fucking shit?” He asked, spat, at the black-blue bitch from before, the one from the fucking apparently teleporting fucking anthill-tide pool.

She was a part of it all, somehow, a part of the weird, fucked up anthill, and the monsters in the sky.

Vendrussel wasn't expecting to see him again, the bastard that was covered within ants and dogs itself — but induced his rage upon her then the world itself. Blaming, what had happened when she was a mortal wolf, did nothing. A rolling of eyes happened upon that meeting and a prayer to the heavens she would not meet him again ; but time and time again it seemed that the world proved to dislike the dragoness, and showed itself once more.

At the very least his anger was directed at.. This. Where the heat brought unruly temperatures and she had to take a step back for a moment, as the air embraced her backside compared to the front itself. She was heating up, not used to such temperatures and for sure, did not like so, "some kind of forest? It's hotter," she commented, wishing there was something to fan herself with.

Though her head turned to the sound of an unusual call, and she squinted at some type of bird. They weren't colorful, not as colorful as the few she caught within the distance — but, very, very different then any she has ever seen.

Relatively large like an eagle, and yet she knew for certain it wasn't. Could've really say it had a grand appearance either, as Vendrussel stared at it with a very large curiosity — for what beak it held. Big enough it seemed like a pelican, and yet strong to break skulls itself. When it cried it was different then any bird she knew, mountains or sea.

What the hell was it?

She looked over at Daighre, who the wolf imagined, was not going to be able to give answers either.

‘Some kind of forest? It's hotter,’

“Fuck if I know.” He scowled; his ears matted back. He was the one that had fucking asked in the first place. Also, she got there first, long before he ever fucking did. What the fuck had she been doing if all she had was a shitty fucking guess?

‘Some kind of forest.’

Yeah, alright, whatever, fucking bullshit.

His scowl deepened and he stepped forward again.

Neck outstretched, and—

“Stop sticking your fucking head into it.” He snapped when he saw her head, neck, and shoulders disappear into the fog.

What was she, fucking stupid?

He bet even fucking Spooky would have fucking known better, and the dumbass tried to drown himself all because he told him to, as a joke.

And fuck, what if her head just got fucking chopped off when she did that?

It was a fucking living, breathing, glowing fog that had swallowed an entire fucking mountain. And here she fucking was, sticking her head inside of it like she didn’t fucking need it.

Stupid bitch probably didn’t, with the way she was fucking acting.

"Just look inside it," the dragoness urged, her ocean-eyes twinkling just a bit. Curiosity, really, maybe a little too much. Though it did bring a worry, and even a slight fear to her core on what was happening.. The inside was but too enticing to truly ignore, as she would put her inside and be embraced by a heatwave unlike anything she knew, and definitely didn't feel like the dry heat that the desert brought — it gave a moisture, like her pelt itself was within a boiling water and she could her tongue roll out in the slightest pant with each movement her body drew near.

Only embracing the cold again, and calming self down.

It shouldn't be possible within the tundra, for if anything around should be melting. Or likewise, the inside should be cooling — but it wasn't.. Whatever Ancients have done this were clearly wanting to have fun or had a plan in motion, and she somewhat was ready to divulge into it with the greatest curiosity. Her wandering, and adventurous soul was screaming to go frward that she looked at him with a,

"Want to go in? I smell something sweet inside."

He looked up.

Up.

Up.

Up.

The fog reached—stretched, seemingly—towards the heavens. Somewhere where not even the sky could reach. Shadows casted against its boundaries, backlit from within. He could see the pantomime of trees. Trees, packed densely together, branches and foliage thick.

The distant sound of birdsong, bleeding, leaking, from within.

He scratched the back of his ear with one of his back paws.

‘Want to go in? I smell something sweet inside.’

“Fuck no.” He sneered. “Shit took an entire fucking mountain and fucked it all up, what do you think it’s gonna do to your stupid fucking blue ass.”

What the fuck did she think she was, immortal?

Vendrussel laughed as she looked over to him ; for his words did speak much truth. For a land that took a mountain, and unknowing at the time, even wolves itself.. What would it do to one who simply ventured inside? Would she disappear, or be wisped away once more to another place, as so she was at her homeland, and strung into the desert itself. A lot could go wrong she would admit — the fleeting thought of even death was looming so.

But what she feared wasn't death. Her kind believed when following the path of the dragon, they reach a nirvana, where they are guaranteed a time of reincarnation. With or without memories, but just knowing they will be blessed within the next life — and many, became blood crazed in that sense without a fear, they risked everything about themselves. Vendrussel thought she was chosen, an exception to this rule as they guided and gave her dreams to the Dragonford claim.

What she feared is the lose of her packmates, but the fear of death was not there. Only a curiosity, a stupidity for she could lose it all if the land so wisped her away.

"But what if it has something cool inside? New land, new adventure." She wanted to convince this sack of mud to go in with her — as she felt the amusement she would get from his reactions would be something worthwhile, "maybe it'll have answers you are seeking," she said, a sound of mystery within the air. Even if the last part was a bit of bullshitting.

‘Maybe it'll have answers you are seeking.’

He snorted.

Huffed.

Rolled his eyes.

And there was a certain satisfaction he felt when he settled back against his haunches and didn’t fucking give a shit about the fog and what was beyond it when she very clearly and painfully did, in fact, give a shit about the fog and what was beyond it.

It was fucking fog.

There was shit beyond the fog. Shit that had seemingly, overnight, stole and replaced an entire mountain and the few shitty fucking wolves that had decided to stay there, for whatever shitty fucking reasons they had.

What more was there for him to fucking know?

What ‘answers’ could he have fucking sought?

He wanted nothing.

He needed nothing.

"Fuck off." He grunted.

She was the one that knew fucking nothing and needed fucking answers.

Not him.

There would be a day, that she was sure of it — she would find him somewhere either beaten up, or otherwise dead. Many can deal with a wolf of attitude, especially if it came to someone of their own packmate ; but even Vendrussel knew within the wilds of a loner life that it wasn't as easy, especially with messing someone of the wrong crowd.. or group. His attitude was a bore, as she sighed with a smile toward all of thise and though he approached and unknowingly continued suspecting, he wouldn't push through.

So instead of continuing back and forth and trying to encourage an asshole to enter the unknown, she started to back up. A circle of questioning that looked of an indication she was leaving — but rather, the dragoness was heading behind him and now his firmly planted rear-end. By the time he would realize it most likely, she was already attempting to headbutt him inside.

She moved.

And he moved too.

His back arched. Body turned, mid-motion, and, “Don’t fucking touch me, bitch—”

Too late.

He was shunted, from one planet to the fucking next.

Again.

"Lighten up," she chortled as she watched his figure blend into the insides, and she too stuck her head within. Seeing him within this heat was enough, and she was sure he may even attempt to attack her... So Vendrussel didn't fully step in, just giving him an amused smile and a, "a mighty forest, right?"

The air changed.

The world shifted, shunted—shook—on its axis.

And he felt the warmth of the tropical sun on his face. The heat and humidity of a world not his own. And the sound of birdsong, foreign and strange.

He squinted.

Struggled, to see the world, from beneath its new sun, filtered through a canopy of green.

His ears rolled back, back against his head.

And—

“Fuck you.” He panted. Fuck you.”

She pushed him, pushed him, like the fucking dumb bitch that had no doubt fucking started this all, and she wanted him to fucking ‘lighten up?’

“What the fuck is wrong with you.”
