Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

A bloodied stormcloak brought home his bounty; a juicy doe, caught by surprise in the Pasture nearby. He couldn't say the poor thing hadn't put up a good fight, but his appetite for destruction that day had reigned supreme. After caching it within the Reach, he went to the Brook to clean himself up. He kept a cautious look-out for newer members he had not met yet, but even more so the children Vengeance had spoke of. He wanted to gauge their interests, their personalities, to determine who would be a potential candidate to conspire with.

He saw no reason to be afraid of his half-siblings, but he did see reason to be cautious. If they were even half as clever as him, they could mean trouble for him in the future. He wished to snuff out any sparks of rebellion they might carry. Surely if they saw what a reasonable and diplomatic guy their Scion was, he would cease to be a real target; the position of Boss was far more desirable, after all.

The young man moved slowly through the area that he grew to know like the back of his paw. It was so familiar to him. The scents were so familiar that he hardly realizes his half-brother was around. It wasn't until he moved out of the trees and nearly ran into him. His mind was clearly somewhere else.

Taking his mind off of the thing... Or person...he was thinking about, he looked up with a sneer. "What are you doing just lurking like a creep?" He had no real reason to be rude to his half brother, but he was feeling some type of way about his weird relationship and wanted something he was used to.

His eyes glanced across the water and for a moment he thought about shoving his brother into the stream, but thought against it.... For now.

He remembered the moment he had first met them; Morag's little bunch of gremlins, suckling at her belly. They had looked so utterly helpless. Though not much involved in how they were raised, he had watched them grow from a distance quietly. Though he was allowed to breed himself, he could not imagine being a father to a process quite so extraordinary. It seemed but a few moons ago that all they did was sleep, shit and eat...

And now, he had to see them as a threat to his throne? He cracked a smile, pausing his bathing. “I am resting.” He answered. “Hunting requires much energy - say, little brother, are you at the age yet where you have to catch your own dinner?” His tone was serious, his question not meant to offend; he was genuinely curious as to how Leviathan was fairing. Though they were both sons of Vengeance, it was to be expected the other was to be treated better; he did not have to prove himself as even being worthy of the Rache name. He had been born and shaped here, created simply to be a pawn in the war the Warlord meant to start.

He watched the man for a moment with narrowed eyes, red irises shining in the growing night. His words make him chuckle softly, a deep rumble though little joy was in his voice. He hated being questioned about his abilities. Regardless of if he was capable of hunting for himself or not - which thankfully he was - why would he show any sort of weakness to his older brother? Family or not, Leviathan didn't like anyone knowing that he could be worse at something than them. It didn't matter how much older than him they were. Weakness could get you killed.

With a short, curt nod, he would speak up. "Of course I do, I'm nearly an adult and I'm not an idiot." He huffed slightly at the last word, moving to dip his front paw into the water. "Not all of us have the luxury of being dad's favorite." He would glance up at his brother, eyes burning with what seemed to be determination. However, he wasn't determined to take the throne, if anything that was the last thing he wanted. No, he had another goal but that would have to wait.

He saw a young man's conviction burning in his brother's eyes, or perhaps it was impatience. He remembered being like that at a young age, too. Perhaps he'd grow out of it, perhaps not, only time could really tell. He had to hold in a laugh as he was accused of being the warlord's favorite child, when that was far from the truth. He debated correcting Leviathan on this, but decided against it. It was better he believe this, for now he could not use Vengeance against him.

“Touchy, touchy...” He remarked, stretching out his front legs. “Not everything has to be a battle - I was simply wondering how you were doing.” He was exuding himbo energy, either because deep down he would like to be a little kinder, or to put the other at ease with his presence. Either worked in his favor in the long-run. He couldn't tell what his little brother's reaction to it would be, probably because they'd never spoken much before. Perhaps his laidback demeanor would only anger him more.

His older brother really annoyed him and he really couldn't place exactly why. Maybe it was because he treated Levi like a child, or maybe because he seemed all high and mighty on his high horse. Leviathan wasn't entirely sure why, but he sure did hate it. But, he was his half brother so the young boy figured he might as well deal with it. And with all of this, the man's laid back, uncaring demeanor made Levi hate him even more. Or maybe Leviathan was just a loose cannon in a child's body.

"Has anyone told you before that you're really fucking annoying?" He huffed and rolled his eyes, trying to get rid of the tension in his shoulders. After a few moments, he would speak up again, now calmer than before. "And I'm doing fine, been training to get better. One of these days we should spar." The boy loved to train and fight, something that he latched onto as he grew older. Part of him doubted that Almight would actually fight him, but he really hoped he would.

Almight was confident in his abilities, perhaps that's why he appeared this way to his little brother. He had an ego and the false conviction he was of humble nature. Maybe Leviathan was a better judge of character than he was, not that Almight would ever admit such or let the possibility even cross his mind.

A laugh rumbled through his chest. “No, that's not how I'm typically described.” He responded, chuckling. He hadn't been described very often was the truth, but he liked the other was being honest with him. He truly meant no harm, but it was going to take some time to make Leviathan believe such. He nodded then, bottom lip pulled up a little in his thinking-face. “Sure - you know where to find me.”

The boy would narrow his eyes slightly at the man, huffing slightly at his words. Levi viewed this man as a goody two shoes even if that wasn't how he actually was. Nonetheless, Levi was partially jaded when it came to Almight. Hearing his words, the man would chuckle slightly and nod, a silent promise that he would indeed be back to fight him.

Silently, he would turn to leave, not really having much else to say to him. He wanted to go explore and train, something he did a lot when he was bored. Even after this conversation, he wanted to better himself to be able to beat the man.
