Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Time, Daighre found, didn’t give a shit.

It moved only on.

Forward, daunting, and relentless. Never hesitating. Never stumbling. Never wavering.

He decided he didn’t give a shit either, stalking forward through the brush. His head low. His nostrils twitching. Ears erect.

Pausing, his tail half curved, when he came upon the only half-interesting scent.

Sniffing it.

Once.

Twice.

Then pissing over it, his back right leg raised.

Escaping the rocks that made up the mountainous area that he had left behind; Alexei was onto, or better, into colder territories now. He'd experimented in the cold before, but found that he never stayed for long. It wasn't the bitter chill that deterred him from staying, but rather he had nothing to stay for. Evergreens waved at him in the distance and now saved his fur from the occasional falling snow flakes.

Lexi hadn't been far into the Everfrost when he realized that there was another wolf around him. The potent scent of urine stung at his nose, as if someone were very close to him. Through the tall and bulky evergreens, he spotted another that stood out. Not as much as his red fur against the whitened background, but just enough to catch through the trees. He scrunched his nose up, and made sure to look away as the man was peeing, but did not try to hide himself among the bark. Eventually, the stranger would see his red pelt moving through the snowy landscape.

He took his time, going about his business.

Unhurried, and languid. His right back leg held up. As comfortable on three legs as he was four.

Aware, of the pervert in the trees.

And ignoring him.

He stretched. The stream petering out. Muscle and joint popping, cracking.

Finally done, as he started to mark the ground. Dragging his front paws over the ground. Following, once or twice, with his back paws. Snow turning over, partially covering what he’d done.

Then—

Staring.

Silent, and stone-faced, at the man that had watched him fucking pee.

Freak.

White dots of snow touched certain parts of the overcoat of his charcoal and maroon pelt. It wasn't nearly enough to blend him into the dull surroundings of the Everfrost. And he was sure that he had been spotted by the other man. Alexei didn't even know why he'd come up here in the first place. To get away from the lower lands? The furthest place from the ocean would surely be up here. He knew if he walked to the edge of one of the mountains that the sea would not meet him, just a stumble's step away from demise.

Alexei could hear the other finishing up and looked back over, just a glance so he could determine whether or not he had been spotted. He met the eyes of the stranger dead on when he looked over. The man's white eyebrows raised, then pressed together as if confused. The man already had an accusatory glare on his face. As if Alexei had watched him the act. The fisherman wasn't much for conversation usually, but he also didn't like being looked at as if he were the freak. Which nine times out of ten he was the odd one out. "What?"
 He asked, plainly.

‘What?’

Yeah, yeah fucking right, like the freak didn’t know what he’d just been fucking doing, oh so conveniently creeping in the trees.

Tch.

He rolled his eyes.

Scoffed.

Looking elsewhere, then forward again.

Back to the creep.

“Nothing.” He said. Flat, and accusatory.

Alexei watched the man as he looked to him, looked away, and then looked back. The fisherman's eyebrows still stayed knitted, confused. He'd never really had an interaction quite like this one. Sure, when he was younger, his siblings would act in a certain way. Accusing him of things he'd didn't do or would act sort of like this right before they tumbled into a dominance match with him. Nothing too hurtful, just to see who could pin who first. Which Alexei usually ended up losing those short matches.

'Nothing.' The man stated, but instead of it rolling off Alexei's shoulders, the tone tacked into him. Shooting him an
incriminatory voice. So, instead of leaving it alone, like he should have, Alexei squinted a little and cocked his head to the side, "I wasn't watching you. I was passing by and heard something. It happened to be you peeing." He probably should have kept walking and ignored whatever this man thought he was doing. Alexei wasn't a creep, he didn't get his rocks off by watching someone else turn white snow to yellow.

Uh huh.

Yeah, sure.

He wasn't fucking buying it.

Something about piss-watcher’s story was becoming less and less credible as time went by, and he was about done with his creepy fucking bullshit. He had more important shit to do than get fucking creeped on by yet another fucking freak.

“Whatever helps you fucking sleep at night, piss-watcher.” He called, turning tail and leaving.

Alexei stood, watching the man the whole time as he went through the same actions, mostly. Blinking, turning his head, and grunting. The fisherman's ear flicked once, then twice at the comment the lone wolf had made. Alexei just squinted as if he'd been bitten by a nasty little flea. Nothing too much to it but aggravation and the itch - though this itch was just to keep moving on, like he'd never even seen the man. "Yeah, uh, okay." He commented, watching the other walk away. He had little else to say nor anything to say to stop the other. What a weird interaction. Alexei turned as well, and started back towards the mountains - whatever he'd found here, he didn't want to find it again.
