She seemed to be gaining.. Some weight, more or less. It vaguely reminded her of the days she was pregnant, and it was something she did not desire again. The moodswings, the cravings, and overall the weight gain. The looks of her hips would never reform to an innocence of a maiden — and truly into motherhood, something that most likely shouldn't have been given to the Queen with favoritism. Yet, she was blessed with eight healthy ones, all who roam as they so please, and a day to take up a mantle. She was patiently waiting for when they were old enough, and she could properly take them out, and even send outside on duties for Elkshire.

In the meanwhile it was quiet.. She found herself walking more, feeling a weight settling upon her. Celnes was someone who knew she was beautiful, and wanted to maintain her figure. Often on walks or hunting the days away, yet felt.. A bit lazy, and was laying on a grass patch as a sunspot shinned down onto her pelt, warming on this chilly day.

mawks alone

It felt...strange to not have the cubs right at her side, but they deserved their freedom. And she trusted them. Well, she trusted Ts'iwaangit.

She wasn't surprised to find the Queen alone as she shuffled through the woods, searching for early blooms and tubers to replenish her energy after the long winter. Her skin felt loose and saggy after she had burned through all her winter stores, and she was eager to feed on fresh spring shoots and flowers. Mooksgm'ol chuffed softly in greeting, lumbering up to the sunny spot that Célnes had claimed. “Hmm. Good spot.” she said approvingly, feeling the warmth beginning to blossom on her back.

"Isn't it?" If she were a cat it would be a moment to purr, instead she lounged with a smile. Her legs stretching and paws curling to each time she felt in a purr bliss, and even the shade of clouds, oh so rare, providing that cold relief before enjoying once more the sunny aftermath. Wouldn't it be nice if all could be like so? Yet within this forest, was a silence hanging overhead.. A distrust between few, and all but her children's laughter which by days, grow stronger.

She felt all too relaxed.. Maybe a bit too much.

Mooksgm'ol laid down beside her, her own paws stretching out in front of her before she laid her head down on them. Resting after hibernation was a strange contradiction, but Long Sleep was less a sleep and more of a...trance. She still felt exhausted, as her body drained its resources to maintain itself while also inducing unconsciousness. How it managed to also give birth at the same time was...well, a miracle, to say the least.

Most mammals, wolves included, didn't go through that. They were conscious the whole time, which boggled her. And so far Célnes was the only mother wolf she had gotten close to. “What was birt' like?”

"Painful," she said with full honesty remembering the time. It the first, she did not expect contractions to begin, and nor' was it the actually beginning of the birth itself, "it starts like a throbbing bruise, worse and worse until it becomes a sharp pain, which lasts for hours, maybe even days for others." She was thankful that her own did not last the long, and even the hours itself were a blank memory that couldn't be told, but it honestly felt so long, she remembered. Unexpected, by the amount that kept coming.

"It didn't stop until I had eight in total." Which was still a shocker — though the Queen had some thought knowing she'd have a big litter, who would've thought that many would from herself? They were a lot to deal with as well, each having such distinct personalities that always had to be slightly altered to how she treated them — though in truth favoritism was to be played. It was easier to give more attention to some then others.

"And yours?" she didn't know about a bears birth, and admittingly was curious.

Mooksgm'ol couldn't hide the cringe on her face as she listened to Célnes describe the process. Eight... Aay waał g̱oodi gwaa! She knew wolves had large litters, but she'd never heard of that many being born at one before. “Don't 'member,” she admitted, almost embarrassed. A blessing in disguise, she realized. “We — bears— give birth during de Long Sleep.”

"It would be nice if wolves were the same." Oh how she envied the bears! Not only their general strength knowing that often they can overpower competitors, but the sheer factor alone they can slumber through the birth. Her own was.. As bad as it could've been. It was during the time they were flushed with medics, and now only one remains — though her own young had a bit difficulty arriving, and by the time the final one came she was so.. Exhausted, and angry at herself to how they were. Now was but a love and joy for them, but the factor couldn't be changed — they were stained with sin.

"How long do cubs tend to stay?" For wolves.. She could remember some left even as a yearling.

She chuckles. She knew that the Long Sleep was a part of her life as a bear, and that staying awake through the seasons was a part of Célnes' as a wolf, but the thought of swapping out one or the other amused her. Everything was as it should be. “Two? Yyears...Maybe less, dependin'.” she shrugs noncommittally. “Sometimes longer, shorter. Depends on de mother. And de cubs.” She couldn't say how long her own would stay. There was plenty of land for them to take, with few others competing them. And if Siilgit's current size was any indication, she would be more than fine taking a place for herself. “I stay for...mm, two. Spent a year on my own. Travelin', mostly.” She gestures towards her white pelt. “I's mooksgm'ol, white bear, so I can travel many places back home wit'out trouble.”

"I don't think I can imagine being pregnant for that long. Even a few months, was troublesome." Her very first litter was an easy birth, and didn't come with too many complications, nor' her general time when it came to the day. Though the troubles of simply existing throughout the day was such a burden on herself. With a litter of eight within her stomach at the time, she was round as an apple itself, and could barely lay down or move without discomfort. She was thankful, they passed, and didn't desire to do that anytime soon.

"You're name has a special meaning to bears?" She said with a tilted head, not entirely understanding what the white bear meant. Because she was a white bear, she could travel away from her home compared to others? That was what she got from it, but held a curiosity to verify if that was true.

“Wasn't too bad,” not that she had other times to compare with. “Cubs are tiny li'l dings at first. Smaller den my paw.” She chuckled, remembering how tiny Siilgit had been at first, though now she looked to outsize her mother and father both.

“At home, yes,” she said. “Most bears dere are black. Mm, some are brown — my mate was red-brown like Ts'iwaangit is. His name's Psa̱h — clay. Most bear names are simple like dat.” She was felt with longing then. Psa̱h had been kind to her, without all the bluster and bravado of other bears his age. Shy, almost, until she got him talking. Then sometimes he never stopped. But she had liked it. Even though he was shy and meek and quiet, he fought for her, brilliantly. If she was back home, she'd mate with him again — really just for the excuse to be by his side once more. She was jealous then, of wolves, who stayed in pairs or more for life. She'd like to be with him more often. “I's born a white bear to black mother and brown father. So I named mooksgm'ol, even 'fore I got my adult name. Dere were a few others like me around, but de name is used for us all.” They had the more complicated bear names when referring to them specifically. Things like: the-male-Mooksgm'ol-that-lived-near-the-seashore-north-of-the-river or the-female-Mooksgm'ol-that-only-eats-roots-except-for-salmon-season, who was not to be confused with the-female-Mooksgm'ol-that-only-eats-roots-except-for-salmon-season-but-only-eats-the-eyes-and-brains. But everyone knew which was which.

“We're sacred. Txa'msem — he, um, dee it — no, god? Sort of.” she stumbled, looking for the words. “Txa'msem a big black bird, harsh cry. He smart and he tricked others, but helped make de world as it is. Txa'msem, he made some of us bears white, for all of us to remember dat de land used to be covered in ice and snow and nothin' could live, and though dings can be rough, we have it good now.” Translating such things were always hard. The words had come easy for her when she told the story to her cubs, or to other cubs, but in English they felt lacking. “Some'a us shamans, or seers, or find herbs, like I do. Others just live. But because we are made by Txa'msem, we are uh, not touchable. Hurtin' one 'a us would be a curse.”

"Our cultures are very different." There was a few moments of silence, after she said so. A moment to take in what she heard and the knowledge, of that of the bears culture. Wolves carry a variety of different ones, and even she knew that the Deorwine way was not the only way, and many held differently. Though within thought it was an appropriate way, a blessing with guidance by one that would always lead them to a bountiful land — and the only consequence was not to hunt the deer or elk. Likewise a warning to who they should be aware about — only, to wolves and elk though. The thought of any other animal even talking was something impossible, but now it continually does.

"For us, we view white elk and white wolves as.. A premonition, of what may come. A prophecy, of the sins they may do, or already have. For our Patron, the High Elk, gave us Deorwine Wolves a blessing, while we are not of their Apostles, he still gives us a guidance, to land, and to who to trust."

For one who viewed white sacred, and for another who saw it as bad. Cultures that divide, and who is to say is right? But she did not judge, for the bear before her was not under these kind of principles. Though she explained to others ; the white ruling did not continue on toward the rest.

And she liked the bear, too much to push her too far away from Elkshire.

She laid her head on her outstretched limbs, listening quietly to her friend speak.

It was strange to realize how different they really were, in how they viewed the world. Beyond the species barrier, but the cultures that had defined them growing up. Every creature — even the wolves — respected the inviolateness of her person. Even the gyigyet, who hunted many of the creatures in the forest and sea. The idea of a white creature being a sin, well it contradicted everything she knew.

And then, of course, the idea of a white creature being sacred contradicted what Célnes knew as well.

She pondered the words for a moment, translating Célnes' words and her own thoughts before she spoke again. “What about me, den?” she cocked her head. “Or a white rabbit? Is it only wolves an' deer?” She was truly curious. Célnes didn't seem to hold her to any negative regard other than her being a bear, and that had disappeared fairly quickly. The others...she thought of Célnes' daughter Edith. Did she disapprove of her mother's fraternization with a white bear?

She shook her head, "It extends only to elk, deer and wolves. Though it can be said those who are more deep within may assume of other species," she narrowed a look upon thinking her young — those who questioned greatly of her teachings and gradually forming their own opinions. She too thought of Edith and her wrong attitude toward the bear, Celnes couldn't help think if she had descended to one of those extremists. She had thought she raised her children to be relatively neutral to most, hoping to share an insight of her opinion ; but it seemed they taken views far further. She just didn't know the extend of how that was.

"Though most who were like so have long since died, and mainly myself, taking the crown of the clan." Some of her cousins were around, some that joined Elkshire and left at the same time. It was a wonder to what they were spreading, and what they were saying to those around. Celnes, tried to keep the more colorist opinions to close to home. Who knew who could be desiring to throw a war over so, or at the very least.. Attempt some alliances regardless of the disgust of color.

Power was everything, and religion was another tool to gain so. At least, so was the Queen's mind for the moment — but it was also noted of her changement within opinion. Sometimes, religion ruled over greed, and sometimes didn't. Though wasn't that majority of religions?
