Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

@Gerald @Nysa @Hydra only unless stated otherwise!

Ara and her sister started to brawl more then a few times, as they grew. She held a lot of pent up energy that was not be given the same level as her other siblings, as there was a lackluster of true fight. She automatically counted herself as the 'alpha' upon their litter, but of course that was always challenged, and unsure to be true. She simply claimed this title without words to refute her, and siblings, bringing upon sneak attacks then they could.. Though her sister, now challenged.

Ara was swift to come after them when she saw them around the camp, and they started to run to the more forested areas of their land. There was no thoughts to bring a guardian as the two went between chasing one or the other, a biting of their ankles and a tossing and turning. Sometimes Ara would attempt to headbutt as she did when she was so young, and only a few times were it actually successful. She was rising her fur and grow irritable how it wasn't a quick finish, but remembered.. Mother told her patience.

She was snapping and growling at her sister.

His pack was in dire need of numbers — the famine had taken so many that he felt that their dynasty was at it's end. Even the elders had given up hope, for most of their woman at the time were nothing but slayed beasts into the ground. A desolate atmosphere took hold of their home, and all that there was, was despair itself.

Yet one brave warrior came with an idea — despicable, however, that there was clear hesitance of doing this task. But it wasn't unheard of, and even their own had been tormented to the same fate. Protest what could be and yet the only fate that was left is to hope any stranger to come, or simply hope for the best. Alas, who would want to join their bleakwoods, where fire had reigned and the land itself was so destroyed prey barely came.

Gerald, was the one who was willing to take the task. To take the children of others packs. Their woman far gone but if they take the young who may not remember where they once belong, will be loyal to them again. A dynasty that once would be in ruined, but now to be mixed with blood and faded with any thoughts of mixing. Even if they moved it did not solve their bleakdays of neither children, or woman — only a country of men.

It was something he wanted to do, but for the sake of the village, he was willing to be the bad man. However Gerald didn't realize once he crossed away from his land, he crossed the realm altogether. When stepped through the fog, he had been warped to the land of Empyrean — and because of this strange doorway that brought him too, he was closer to the peaks then normally would be.

But he could smell them ; the fresh lambs of young blood and the large hunting of packlands. He just stepped into the territory and cleanly could tell. Gerald gritted his teeth, for his own young as well.. Had fallen, alongside his wife. He knew if they were subjected to what he was to be done, he would never be able to live with himself.

But for the sake of everyone else who still lives on — it was important he take children, for there was no heart to force woman to bare their young. Savages they were turning to, and yet even some had their limited. He laughed at the irony that though they won't stoop to plundering, they were still willing to take hold of pups.

Hearing the sounds of tiny barks, he quickly hid in the bushes, and watched, and waited..

The matriarch watched her daughters tussle, some measure of pride in her gaze. Nysa, it seemed, had taken to the fighting rather than running. As of late, the tawny girl seemed to accept her sisters role... but then there were days like today, when Nysa was in a temper and would refute her sisters claim. She imagined the latter point to be the reason Ara kept after her, to ensure Nysa understood... they were young yet. And there was no hatefulness from either; Nysa even looked amused despite her earlier vexation. Sometimes, such things were needed to blow off steam.

That much Hydra knew and understood w—

Something felt amiss. Hydra could not put her paw upon it, but she gathered herself to all fours and drew nearer to her cubs, sniffing. The lone wolf was downwind, and she could not smell there was another near. But she wanted to investigate. She looked to her two daughters, old enough to investigate with her. Their squabble would have to wait. She would not use them as a pawn to lure some maleficent thing to her. She knew better than to not trust her instinct, which in her lifetime had yet to be wrong.

So while they squabbled, Hydra drawled faintly, for their ears alone, “mind your defenses,” as she stood between her cubs and the danger. Hydra had yet to place it, and still only guessed that it might be there... either the feeling would pass, or the threat would present itself. Hydra herself was ready, all too casual in the setting of her own to demonstrate for her daughters how to do so. Ears, eyes, tail, throat. A lesson. One in which this part at least, they were familiar with.
