Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

The Ripperwoods was one of the places she found herself patrolling some time. It was close to the mountain as it's forest, and she realized it was a rather bountiful one. The sap that produced from the trees coaxed many bugs and birds to it's trees, and in return, that brought the predators that wanted to take them as a meal. She could smell the home of foxes and coyotes, and she would attempt to chase them out once discovering they crossed to the mountains border, otherwise.. She would try to leave them alone, as there was no order that this would be part of the claim.

Careful walking, as she traveled through and could hear the faintest sounds of birds chirping, but an otherwise silence.. Sometimes her nose could detect the sap and see it's spilling upon the roots, but besides that, nothing seemed abnormal.

Loki had headed a little south from the valley he had woken up in. The forest provided a little bit of protection instead of being out in the open. The woods he ended up in, however, did not give him very much comfort. He paused, taking in all the red liquid dripping down from some of the trees. His first thought was blood, but why would trees be bleeding? As far as he knew, trees didn't have blood inside of them. This was a strange new land, and he wasn't entirely sure yet that he belonged here. At least not in this particular spot.

The smell of water reached his nostrils, and he focused on following the scent. He made sure to steer clear of the trees as much as he could, as if touching one would be bad. How did he know it wouldn't? The wind shifted and brought with it the scent of another wolf, a stranger. Loki paused as his eyes searched and found the light-colored female. His tail waved softly, giving away his friendly disposition. He chuffed to get her attention, and then waited for her reaction. He did approach yet, in case she wasn't friendly.

Someone called for attention — Desdemona turned around and looked at who did, noting it was not someone from Empyrean, or anywhere else she knew. Rather it was a lone male. He held a mixture of colors, looking a bit like a more classic of wolves that reminded her of Dirge, for he was tan-like with blacks and the whites flashing through. If she had to comment though, he seemed.. Plush.

She did not say anything, standing in a usual stoicism and looking at him with an look of 'you called?' awaiting for what reason he needed her attention. There was no hostility, for this was but a currently, neutral land.

The other wolf paused and set her sights on him. He had expected her to call out, say hello, or something. But, she simply waited. After a few moments, he realized she was waiting to see what he wanted. Crap, what did he want? Hello, I'm Loki, he said, introducing himself. I'm just new to the area, scouting it out, he explained. He stayed where he was, raising his voice slightly to make sure it traveled to her. She hadn't made any attempt to close the distance between them, and while she didn't seem aggressive, he didn't want to push it.

He looked a little unsure. He could smell the faint borders of a pack nearby, but assumed that if he was too close, and she was a pack wolf, he'd be run off by now. He was passing through, at least, so if there were any issues, they would be solved by his departure rather quickly.
