Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

When Osiris woke up there was a jolt and scream, bleating and panic as they frantically looked around with beady, blue eyes. A pain within their chest — right where they once were struck and yet when looking down, she noticed that what had pierced her very heart was no longer there. An arrow of a hunt, and the blood that seemed eternal ; she couldn't see it. The pain she thought she felt was not there was well and yet, it seemed as if it pinched, like a phantom pain as she laid down and panted heavily..

The elk didn't know where she was. Even she felt different — for the mark that was once upon her leg vanished as well, and she wasn't sure what to make of that. It didn't hold a significance, for Osiris was born with it and.. and.. She couldn't remember who she was before. Everything was a blurr, except the very end where she had been shot into the chest.

And now she was within this forest, that smelled like wolves..

The strange part was the wolves never hunted her, and she could understand them fairly well. Yet, would not interact with them. There was just an awkwardness as sometimes Osiris would glare at them from away, being lost and confused on how exactly they wouldn't hunt her, nor' why she could properly understand. Could her tongue do the same — could she actually talk to them?

Yet.. She didn't want to.

She watched them for quite some time, and arrived as there was children, running around the forest. They seemed to be the leaders, a woman of browns and orange eyes, and surrounded by eight, often. Others referred to her in politeness.. As she told all, that hunting elk wasn't permitted.

There were times Osiris thought to leave the forest, explore what was beyond. Yet felt tranquil within, and didn't see the rush of going out so soon. There was a comfort, knowing she was safe in these woods even if wolves were plaguing it so. In some way, did she become part of the forests's herd, but always kept her distance from them. She rarely communicated, and especially pushed off any of the bulls that tried to pursue a more romantic sense. She wanted none of it, as it almost seemed they were more beastly, then the elk she remembered.

It was a rather isolated life, as she laid near one of the many rivers that led into what these wolves referred as, The Elk's Crown.
