Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

^^Harper liked to believe that she was not an emotional canine; some might even dare to label her an emotionally detached monster and of course, Harper would agree with them fully - much to Valeska’s dismay. She, too, liked to think that monsters couldn’t hurt in the ways and the depths in which she was hurting - but perhaps they could and perhaps everything Harper had ever known to be was a lie.

There were two significant holes in her heart, and she felt like she was bleeding out. She could not think of them without hurting; she could think of nothing else, actually; moreover that Harper had never once been able to tell Crux that she loved him or that she’d fallen in love with him, and that she actually wanted to be the mother of his children. Children that she would never have, and children that would, now, never know Hawking as well. Dreams were crushed; hearts and Harper’s entire demeanor, broken.

Instead, now, she was left with Mordecai and Elysium. No one of Eventful Horizon, aside from that lovable oaf, had followed her back to Elysium. And to Harper, it felt embarrassing to have to pick up the pieces where she left off, returning home after months of no communication and now feeling a disconnect here, too. Not from Valeska, per say, nor the pack - but the wedding had been here. All of those happy memories that Harper tried so hard to focus on to ground her into feeling something else other than this angry hopelessness had somehow only caused more anguish.

Harper had Mordecai; she had Valeska, but Valeska was busy with Elysium stuff - or so Harper would tell herself, although Harper knew Valeska would drop everything if Harper needed her. Though Harper was too proud to ever admit that she needed anyone.

And Mordecai was loyal to Harper through extension from his loyalty to Crux. They had good times, sure, but nothing quite as serious as her love to Crux had been. They hadn’t spoken of the future, of what they wanted; nothing. Just casual sex on friendly terms, while there had been an entire wedding for Crux. There was a very large difference, and Harper wasn’t even sure if Mordecai wanted her on a more serious level, or if she could even look him in the eye without thinking about Crux.

Harper thought of her sister; she thought about the time when she had feared that she might never love Crux and now - ha, the joke sure was on her, wasn’t it - that now, because she had loved him, she was hurting. Perhaps it would have been better to have never known him at all, but… his love for her had made her feel more alive than anything.

And while Harper was not seeking answers, nor did she ever look to religion, Harper needed… an outlet, so she did the only thing that she knew how to do for situations like these: she sang. She sang a deep, passionate, though gentle song of love and heartache, and overall mourning to the stars. ^^
