Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

maybe someone can give him some pointers lmao

Boredom had driven the boy to action. Everyone around the mountain always seemed so busy with various tasks, most of which he couldn't really understand the importance of yet, only that they were helping, but more often than not he was told that he could not help. That he was too young or he should find his siblings to play with. Well, tussling with his brothers could be fun for some time, but Ara showed up more often than he liked to really enjoy himself. She always took things too far, always far more serious for something that should have been fun. He could venture off and explore more, but too often he would turn back fearing he'd anger his parents by going too far.

So what to do...Raiden had flopped in a clearing, his limbs sprawled out before him and stretched out behind as dead grass tickled his nose. A dulled golden gaze stared ahead watching a small beetle or some shelled grub thing crawl around and along a broken branch as he racked his mind for...really anything to do. Luckily, it seemed fate would give him an answer instead. The bug he had once been watching would only last a bit longer before a bird swooped down and landed before him, plucking the creature from its branch to swallow whole. He blinked in surprise as it lingered, head cocking almost as if it were looking directly at him before pecking at the ground a few times.

Never had he been so close to a live bird before...why it landed so close he wasn't sure, though realistically it was probably his pelt that blended him with the ground. Squirming his legs under him slowly, the boy wiggled his rear with newfound interest before charging at the small avian. Needless to say, his approach wasn't the most graceful, and by the time his jaws came snapping there was only empty air to meet him.

Desdemona rarely interacted with the pups — a respectful distance as she would occasionally help to bring meals or otherwise interact with the Alpha's. She was uncomfortable with them, not sure how to properly interact without seeming like some heartless fiend, and likewise didn't want to cause any trouble if something were to happen. Even then she wasn't sure what trouble she could cause to some children. The woman was fearful, if she would hurt them in anyway.

Upon her daily patrol and coming up the mountain, did the guard spot one of the children. She watched him, playing with bugs then moving onto a bird, which fled rather quickly. Still a child she knew, but the form was almost sad to say as a Prince to this land. But, it was not her call to make or comment, as she looked at the dirge replica.

Some part thought about it, but wasn't sure if @Hydra would appreciate Desdemona correcting her own child.

A growl of annoyance bubbled in his throat as wings carried the bird far beyond his reach. He'd look on until it was nothing more than another dot in the sky, a bout of jealousy momentarily formed within his breast. If only he too could see the world from above, flying freely away from prying jaws. Oh, the sights he could see, but alas he was earthbound. Pack bound even. He knew it was with good reason that he and his siblings were held here, but it left him restless.

Refusing to stand around and wait for another bug, Raiden carried on with a twitching nose as he tried to find something else of interest. His mother had told him to pay attention to his surroundings; that even here, deep in the claim there were dangers and treasures. Though what treasures were there to be claimed by a boy too slow to chase and too small to reach?

He'd keep his head lowered, nose along the ground until he finally found a scent worth following. It wouldn't take him far as the trail abruptly ended at a hole near the base of a tree. Without really thinking he shoved his nose into the tiny cavern before sticking an arm down to feel around for anything.

"You aren't patient enough." As she watched the boy continue ; she couldn't hold her tongue anymore. He ventured down and caught a scent, but rather waiting the minutes out to see if any would come out, he ventured directly into.. And shoved not only his nose into it, but soon his arm. Even if there was one inside — not like it would come out. If anything she imagined it would nip the boy.

Desdemona hovered over him and stared down, expecting him to remove his paw away from the hole.

A voice soon interrupted his digging causing him to look up as a towering figure now stood above him. Raiden recognized her already despite never directly interacting. She was one of the ones who always lurked about but didn't seem to talk much. He would only stare back, his arm still shoved in the hole as he waited to see if she had anything else to say. Yeah? He had been patient, he simply wasn't fast enough. Not yet at least. Now he knew the chances of him actually dragging something out of this hole were slim, but he was bored now and wacking at something smaller and moving that he could reach proved more interesting than sitting around staring at a hole.
