Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write

@Remus

As they grew, so did their abilities. She eventually sought to hunt for herself, encouraged by her mother as a growing child — and for herself, to gain an independence. Though she couldn't do too well, attempting any birds were a truly difficult task. Even rabbits, were too fast for her clumsy paws as often the child would find herself crashing into the bushes.. Rarely catching them, and when she did it felt too dream-like to be real.

On a day she tried to hunt a bird, and even to the point where Vermillion tried to dash up the tree like a cat, but fell thoroughly to her ass. A loud thump into the snow as she buried herself in, and huffed slightly with a whimper. She wished her paws were more like a cat, as there was once a cat roaming through these woods and she had seen them climb the trees with claws — she wondered why they were so different.

The best that a wolf could do, was stalk. She carefully placed with each paw to the snow, testing the ground to minimize the 'crunch,' for every rabbit would run when they hear so. Maybe with the sparrows, she would go lucky as Vermillion slowly prowled through a bush, carefully trying to and then — as she bolted out from her hiding place in a fury of thunder, her jaw locking onto the wing of sparrow before taking off. She catch so, tearing and throwing before adjusting position and grabbing the neck for a rather, quick snap.

.. She always felt guilty afterwards though, seeing the lifeless bird upon the winter floor.

Hearing the commotion nearby Remus went to investigate. A bit of surprise hit him as he saw one of the pampered royal pups hunting for themself. It was good that they had self imposed some discipline into their life, nothing would lead to the decay of a bloodline like being pampered.

Remus made his presence know, but his emotions hidden as usual, "Impressive speed, Vermillion."

An embarrassment as she shrunk her heads back, "Thank you.." She couldn't say that she received compliments before — thinking about it, Vermillion doesn't remember.. Any, from her mother. But simple thoughtless comforts of the nose and warmth, and loves and promises to guard and protect, yet, she couldn't remember the Queen ever saying she was proud of Vermillion. But there was ravings of Warwick. So it felt nice, to be praised.

She shuffled her paws.

Remus was able to pick it off right away, the young one needed some encouragement, he could tell by the way she took the compliment.  "Do you catch these a lot?  They aren't easy."

It was wise to be balanced. Some where born overconfident and need to be broken down, and some are born underconfident and need to be raised up.  Perhaps this could spark something up in the girl, it would be good for someone like this to bask in their own success for a moment.

"I like to.. They feel easier then mice or rabbits." Vermillion said in honesty. For herself it felt easier to launch a surprise attack on a bird, then that of either mammals. She wasn't the fatest wolf, not gaining the long-legged traits of a Deorwine wolf, and had trouble keeping up with prey often. It felt exhausting on continually losing against them, that at some point she turned toward the flying fellows within a tree.

They tended to aim up then forward — and with a leap of fate, she would either aim or miss, and often was a 50/50 try. It was more appreciated then ending into a chase where even after all that, she may not succeed in the hunt.

"Ahh... Most don't feel that way.  It seems you found a specialty"  It was true, not many wolves even grown where adept at catching able bodied birds.  Though she had identified a weakness, mice and rabbits where fast and a chase would often last.

Perhaps she could be trained to overcome her weakness' short legs where no excuse.  Besides, self discipline imposed early would lead to a life of an iron flesh and will.  "Would you like to go on a jog with me Vermillion?"

Her ears perked, staring star-eyed at Remus with such a thought. She wasn't at an age to know properly to hide her emotions, expectations and so. To think if she had a speciality, made her feel special, which was often unusual. With a litter of eight, it was hard to really feel the individuality sometimes, when often or not all the praise went to the more.. Holy, of siblings. Her tail wagged slightly behind, on thinking that maybe, she had something over them. She knew after all, her sister @Edith had a more liking to larger game.

She nodded, maybe a bit too eagerly, moving forward to Remus.

"Great, lets begin", Remus said, trying to hide his excitement, wasting no time in breaking into a trot.  Remus assumed it would be a manageable pace for someone of her age.  Looking over his shoulder he would see how the young one was doing.

With proper honing of the spirit and the body, shortcomings like short legs would be nothing for the young girl to overcome.  First, he had to once again get her to taste success.  If he could do that than she might actually grow to enjoy running, and if she enjoyed it, she would become swift with time.

Though her build was small compared to the tall nature of most of her siblings and even mother, she still had relatively long-legs for her stature. A blessing, for the Deorwine were always like so in the form of royalty ; it led an easier gain of running and hunting compared to the nature of fighting. Born to be of runners and hunters, but never to the elk or deer, for sacred that they are, the Deorwine, the Elkshire wolves, would always run alongside them. She couldn't deny there was some moments she tried, even if the Queen said to leave them alone in peace.

She followed Remus with an ease, and was looking at him in a wonder.. A question that couldn't be tied down as she squeeked up, "uhm.. Remus.. Do you ever," Vermillioned gulped, "think of leaving Elkshire?"

Remus was so blindsided by the question, that his running pace was disturbed and his face could not hide the shock from the question.  Typically he would have surrounded himself with tall emotional walls, but in front of the child his emotional defense was none. "Uhh...", he stammered, his pace slowing.

It would be a lie if he said no.  Many times he had fantasized about walking over the horizon, though speaking things like this out loud would be dangerous.  "All the time..." He said, throwing caution to the wind.  Life was getting tired, it was time to let destiny in once more.

"Oh.." She wasn't expecting an answer, much less one of complete honesty. All the time? Did he really detest Elkshire that much? Though Vermillion, and all the litter knew how much their mother was a.. Control freak, at times, especially when they were not allowed to call her anything but mother. It was ingrained, as ingrained as her attempted teachings of 'royalty' and often swift corrections. She wasn't sure if the other siblings thought the same though, but the young Princess would understand why others would not.. Like her so much.

"Why?" but as a child, she would ask further.

Not much got his hear to pound like moments like this.  He was putting his professionalism on the line here.  Yet, the child asked him an honest question.  "I think, that beyond this horizon, there is more out there. I dream of a better world.  One where the strong feel it their duty to serve the common good.  Where comrades can become brothers and sisters, where we can sing of our victories and serve each other until the end.",  speaking with passion, he halted his jog looking out to that northern horizon.  It wasn't that Elkshire was half bad.  But, it wasn't living up to all it could be as a nation, it simply was, just a symptom of the current world.

Though wouldn't openly say ; the child had often doubts and desires, that went beyond the forest of Elkshire. Yet she held a fear, for even the smallest sounds on occasion gave a jolt and then the issue of not.. She didn't want to leave the familiarity of family and home, even if at some times she felt misplaced. They were still her own though, and.. Family should stick together, right?

"Then you'll leave us one day?" Vermillion couldn't help but ask, for the thought of Remus leaving was.. Disheartening, at the very least as her ears lowered slightly on the thought. He was not family, but she enjoyed him — his words, his teachings, like a comfort that she couldn't reach from her mother, and praising that she was so desperate to get sometimes.

"I do not know... for now it is only a vision." Like the girl, Remus also felt disheartened in a way.  He had told himself that he would not taking a liking to @Célnes 's degenerate spawn.  But, here he was: finding that he did enjoy uplifting the young ones.  Some where pure of heart, and did not inherit the sins of their mother.  They deserved more, truly.

"If this world I dream of becomes a reality, you can find me on the horizon.  Remember Vermillion, you have all the strength within you, do not loose your heart"

wrap?

She didn't mind Remus, or his training, despite unknowingly, her littermates felt differently. Maybe it was because though she actually learned, and enjoyed the feeling of being praised that was so foreign by her mother. Though in an honesty she didn't think that the Queen really praised anyone — but has seen her being quite proud in particular of Warwick ; the unspoken favorite out of the whole litter.

She felt embarrassed, really. Remus was often one that helped boost her confidence, but she was never sure how to reply. Thus a silence, would fall upon them. But the corners of her mouth tugged to a faint smile.
