Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Visions of power could wait for the moment, this woman was offering him food.  His heart was still beating a bit as his mind shifted gears.  With a few paces he circled back to the carcass, for a moment watching his princessa feed. Enthralled and exited by their earlier conversation Kuhn lowered himself down to the kill wrapping his forepaw over the wolf's shoulder, holding her close as he began to pick at the edges of the kill with his front teeth.  Pressed against her like  his elevated heartbeat was apparent as he tried to distract himself with the food, his face rubbing against hers in the the midst of feeding.

His ears where still cupped to her listening to her talk about more wolves in another mountain.   "so...", he replied indifferently, wondering if there was a reason she was telling him this now.

Riding the high, he pressed against her, and held her, and she responded with a light lean. He seemed to partake quickly and easily in her spoils, slinging his paw over her. It put weight on her, but Valmúa enjoyed this kind of touch. She pulled at the meat, perhaps more tenderly than she might have if he hadn't been here and all over her.
She growled in play and food-related, learned behaviour while he kept his face close. It was all in jest, largely, but also said don't ever fucking take food that is mine. This was something she had gotten from her wolven heritage, plus her brothers and cousins thieving from her when they were young.
Kuhn was unmoved by it all, including her observation. “I did not know they were there until the other day,” she clarified. “They are northerners, like me,” she kept going, even though the more she talked, the less food she could eat. “You realize we, this place, is the gateway to the north?”
The fire woman gnawed at the edges of the carcass, finding some pleasure in this. The Everfrost, she now knew, was surrounded on either side by two large mountain ranges. Though there was a secondary entry further to the northeast, that seemed largely barren. The opposite side had wide sea cliffs and treacherous terrain, though she hadn't ventured far enough to know all of it for certain. Theirs was the safest crossing.
She knew when strangers walked these woods. She wanted to control them, somehow.

Keeping his weight on her, tearing and processing, he heard her threat. Responding with a threatening rumble of his own. If he had to he would show her his heritage. . Frustrated, because she had invited him, he started to puff up.

His hackles ceased their climb as she changed away from the point of contention. "I knew they where there, I met them a long time ago." He replied, a bit of growl still left in his voice as he tried to let it go.

"Gateway...", Mulling it over he wondered why it mattered. "So are we going to talk about eating trespassers again?"

After letting the joke sit for a moment, Kuhn targeted some blood on her chin, passing his tongue across it.

For a brief second, Valmúa was tempted to not heed his warning, to challenge him. She remembered the last time she had done this, and instead growled quietly, even releasing the meat she was holding. She knew well that he could take it from her if he chose, but he had never chosen that path.
As Kuhn mentioned that he had in fact known they were there all the time, Valmúa rolled her shoulder and pulled at the meat of the deer. These were moments when she had to remind herself that he, a great beauty among beasts, did not have the social fears and wherewithall that she possessed. He had cunning to him, yes, but times like this were when she remembered that she was Wolf and he was not. They might have frustrated her, had she not found weird comfort in his oblivious nature.
“No,” she answered calmly. “A gateway gives us something better than force,” she explained. “A gateway gives us knowledge. We know who comes, we know who leaves, we know what Ira of Vanderfell and Reiko of Shiroshika do not,” she kept on, hoping that this would make sense to him. “We have something to offer them that is better than land or hunting rights.”
Pushing mildly against his weight, she seemed almost angrily to chew and then pull a piece attached with sinew and cartilage from the carcass. Still keeping to his side, she worked at it, offering him a moment to think and respond.
She had told Ira that Kuhn was a lord of wisdom, and this had always been true. Now, she realized with their geography that they held the keys to the entire north.

His growl seemed to be enough to clarify his irritations, noting Valmua's change in posture. Speeding up his eating, he wanted to get some sort of fill from the carcass, before another mixed signal came his way. Fully immersed in the ribcage, he continued to listen as he ate suspiciously fast.

"Better than force...", His head emerged from the ribcage. "Knowledge..." The big cat's stare with his mate was uncharacteristically long, looking into her eyes as if seeking a vision and mulling over what she said.

Licking blood from his chops, he leaned back against her with his own weight, stretching against her. "What if... this became a place where others could come to escape, force, land, and hunting rights?"

Looking to the sky, many conversations with odd souls from all walks of life came to mind, all having different skills and knowledge. Not all wolves fit the mold for pack life like: @Aspen, @Vera and Valmua. It would be nice to have a place free from the petty tyranies of pack life, where the strong and knowledgeable could prosper.

Kuhn ate quickly. Though the fire princess noticed, she said nothing, watching him instead while continuing on. He looked, deeply, into her eyes.
This was a motion almost unseen in animals. This was something strong. Steadfast. Terrible. True.
Valmúa could see a fire, a dim and grey flame, alight from his strange and terrible stare. It frightened her an amount, and she had to look away from him. The wolf could feel the fire of his gaze upon her. It lit her up. It lit her mind, her chest, her loins. She loved and hated his power over her and tried to ignore it. The moment of his feline stare was hardly more than an instant, yet she fretted still.
The words, though, they came at once from his delicious feline lips. They fell like a wonderful drug through her essence. She could feel him in her for the shortest time before his strength escaped her.
“If that was so,” but she felt the power of it, the freedom they could create. She could feel strength beyond violence and beyond what she had brewed. “We would be great. But we cannot trust any of these people. Not without rule,” but her words felt thin and nonsense. It was the what if that held her mind. She had dismissed it, yet she felt the possibilities.
Suddenly, Valmúa looked to the sky, and she felt overwhelmed with possibility.

Holding his stare steady, it was like he was attempting to peer into her, tear her apart with his eyes. Her touch and scent told him what he was doing, even if it was unintentional. Though in this moment, it seemed to him like something more. How he wished he could tear her apart, and take her into his very being and soul.

There was something about the firery woman's way of being that was like fire, graceful and destructive. A rare element, but one that had no fear of spreading it's terrible beauty to the world. His stare told of his love for this flame, dangerous and pure. In this moment, he wouldn't mind if his flame, his spark, became a burning torrent.

"I'm sure there are others on the horizon that share our vision. Trust is easy with the right people, if we must, we meet trespass with treachery."

Pressing his cannines into the back of the woman's neck, "We will clean the bones of our foes together." He purred lowly, biting down pseudo threateningly.

She relished him. The nature of his touch and the hold of him and the rumble of his treacherously affectionate voice sent waves of adoration through her. As wind to a great sail he sent her swiftly in all manner of thought and excitement. The tip of her tail betrayed her, wiggling in an anticipation not unlike the end of a hunt, the second before she could drive her teeth into the throat of her quarry.
The blaze of his words licked at her as though caressing. She felt his teeth, so much larger than her own, at the back of her neck. A lightning bolt of terrifying glee, or even demand split through her. It forced her to raise her head, such that the bridge of her nose could touch his chin.
Valmúa was grinning, but it was not a smile of malice or triumph, nor warmongering. Rather, she found herself bathing in something like a pure and strange joy. Though the daylight was still grey, she felt she could see through it to stars above her. Timeless. Ageless.
“You are right,” she admitted easily, and her voice was clear and clean like fresh water over river stone. Clarity seemed to fill her senses. “So we will find the right people. I trust you.”
She closed her eyes. The fire burned, but controlled, as in a hearth.
