Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

looking for Nightwalkers BUT AW!

The Soldier would remember nothing of the past when she woke.
Distant growls, shouts, snarls and shrill, cut-off cries of battle, the only hint to a previous life filled with violence.
Feral had shot upward from the ground with a gasp, eyes wide and body alert.
Her great head swung with a searching gaze, taking in the foggy grasses and the even darker forest at the far edges.

Slanting her ears back with uncertainty, Feral began to go towards the Blackwood, catching the scents of several wolves around.
She definitely felt like she was trespassing.
Looking around, the young mercenary sent up a call for whoever owned the lands she woke up upon.

The days had been growing shorter, their weather colder as the shadows consumed the woods. There was nothing pleasant about winter, and any wolf knew it became do or die as soon as prey began to hide away in their burrows to sleep off the coming snow. It was just another reason their many kids were growing into an incoming problem. Even now, their appetite for milk was weaning, all had gotten a taste for meat and soon it would be all they want. Had they stayed small and suckled all through winter he wouldn't care, but now it was his own stomach on the line if they didn't have enough to eat.

The sun had already met the horizon, and what lingering colors remained were stretched atop darkened clouds. The firebrand huffed through his nose, red eyes scanning the borders as he headed for their hunting grounds. If he was lucky some deer herd would be lingering on the far edges believing they found safety with the night as they huddled together. Of course, they would be stupid grazers and in their weary states and slowed minds, there was bound to be at least one that would be slow to run. At least one that he could target and hopefully sink his teeth into.

Unfortunately, it seemed life had other plans for him as he barely made it out of the woods when a call went up for any of the reach. It wouldn't take him long to find her. Large and white she looked out of place amongst their darkened hues, just like a target with a flashing arrow in the night. 'T's late, Toots. Whaddya want? He could tell her she was trespassing, but she was the one who called wasn't she? Clearly, she knew that much so why bother repeating redundant information.

Eventually, Feral was found.
A golden male, red eyes, and not exactly looking kind, though she could understand, given the hour.

Feral lowered her head slightly, an acknowledgement of his rights to the field. "Apologies, sir. I woke up here some minutes ago, and I wanted to ask if your pack had any room. If not, then I'll leave without any trouble."
She kept her gaze mostly on Aries, though her golden hues occasionally looked beyond him to see if anyone else was coming.

"My name is Feral." She offered after a brief pause, keeping her posture as a soldier at-ease, yet non-confrontational.

Just woke up here, great. Another one. He only snorted as red eyes quickly flicked up and down her body, watching as her head lowered to him. What was she beggin' or something? You make a habit of crawling to the first pack you smell and asking for a safe haven? Girl was young, but she'd learn soon enough not every pack was all sunshine and flowers, oh sure come on in have some dinner, let alone the Nightwalkers.

Take my advice, Doll. Scram while ya still can. You'll only get eaten alive here. Submission was good and all, but you needed balls and a bit of a backbone to at least stand up for yourself to last around here. If you can't throw your weight someone else would to climb the ladder. If it wasn't him who sourced his fun on the new rat then someone else would. They were no strangers to making their own fun after all. She was large though...a meat shield to ward others off at best, but anyone could be meat on legs.

Feral snorted sharply, yet softly, at Aries' remark.
Though she bitterly supposed he was right, and that it wasn't a good idea to just ask for a place in the first group she discovered.

To his advice, Feral wanted to scoff, the look was on her face.
Yet she didn't.
She supposed they didn't have any room, then, or any want.

The young soldier could take a hint.

"Alright. If your pack needs an extra soldier in your ranks at any point though, I'll be around. Not like I know this place, heh."
With that, the pale yearling would begin to turn a direction with the intention to depart. Unless Aries decided to test her via a fight or something, Feral was intent for the time being to find food and shelter elsewhere.

The girl held an ugly face his way towards his words of wisdom. Hell if he cared if she listened or not he was being the nice guy being generous enough to warn her of what would come should she stay. Anyone else for the most part would just go straight to chewing or if she was really unlucky, killing. Ain’t need any soldiers. They all could fight. Hell it was one of the requirements to join. At the end of the day though they were no army or mercenary group they were a family who worked for their own interests.

Wasn’t a place for kids, even the ones they had really, but they had been born into this way of life. She had the chance to walk away and she should. Luckily, she chose the right move and would turn to leave without much complain aside from suggesting he find her should they be in need of her services. Bold of her to think she was so valuable to them. Whatever, he’d watch as she left, a dead red gaze following her until she was out of sight and away from their borders. Only once she was long gone would he too turn to head back the way he came.
