Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Love a thread with @Leta but also eager to meet other faces!

Valette had been part of Empyrean for a bit now. She had been around all the wolves but mainly focussed on being hard at work for the pack. She was always tracking or hunting when she had the time for it. She had not been the most social of wolves, she had realized. Mostly because the whole idea that West and Leta might be family were just too much to take in. She was never rude to anyone though, always polite but perhaps a little more reserved and than showing much of her own personality.

But with her becoming more at ease in the territory it was also perhaps time to get to know more of the other wolves. She had heard that there had been children born as well, but she made sure to stay away from them, not feeling enough part of the pack that she figured the mother would be comfortable with her around. She would wait to be invited. Currently the female was working on covering one of the caches, pulling a big branch over the carcass and moving moss and other things over it for the meat to be covered and hidden away from others.

Leta had not meant to avoid Valette, but she had not wanted to overcrowd her, either. No doubt, though, Valette could sense the she wolfs lingering chartreuse eyes. It was hard to veil the adoration and admiration that both seemed to come through at equal measure, but she had learned a trick or two from Hydra's stoicism. Hard, but doable... most of the time. Leta was relieved her mother packmate was otherwise occupied so that today, at least she had the time to make sure that her demeanor was friendly, but not, well, plainly adoring.

And habits were difficult to shift. Leta dipped her head submissively to her mother, pleased to imagine that Valette, at least between them, was the superior party. Nevermind that they were now basically the same age, it smelled like... right? That was also strange, but difficult to even know 100%. Perhaps Leta ought to show more authority, given her own experiences here... but it felt disrespectful to what she remembered of her memory of her, and Leta never wanted to treat Valette with anything less than respect.

Some habits were difficult to dismiss.

“Hey,” she greeted, moving around to face the mocha woman, “need some help?” she offered, not wanting to intrude on the others work but happy to kick some dirt back and do whatever she could to assist.

Valette heard someone approach. She looked up from the large deer carcass and noticed that it was Leta who approached her. The female had no qualms with the other. She hadn't seen her around, which she had expected really. But the female had been really respectful of her boundaries it seemed. It made Valette like her more. Her approach was surprising though, it felt really submissive while she felt that she was the lowest in the rank, at least lower than her.

The female dipped her head in greeting. "Of course," she agreed. "I am covering this large stag with at much natural stuff as possible." Valette was used to digging but with the mountain's hard underground it was hard to really bury the meat. So she had found branches and other types of material to over the beast. Valette pulled a branch over the carcass. "How have you been?," she asked then.

Valette accepted her offer, and Leta's tail waved. Wasting no time, she found a position opposite of the woman so as to not undo her work or get in the way. Leta sniffed at the ground, eyes seeking out any part of it that was less compact than the rest, and finding just that she turned 'round to begin to kick the dirt back onto the beast. Valette had a good idea, too, that Leta would help to incorporate, but being used to the mountain she was able to sometimes find earthy parts that could be good for burying. Still, she could only do so much of that for this amount of time... Leta paused to shake out her furs and look for some branches to help, too.

Her mothers question caught her off guard for some reason, so off guard that she did not think to even correct the error in her thoughts. “Busy, but good,” she started with. Not too busy, but busy enough to not crowd Valette while she acclimated at least. “Hydra's getting ready for cubs, so I've been working on hunting to help... and patrolling. Seems like the coyotes know to steer clear lately,” she said with a wave of her tail. And then, “how are you? Settling in okay?” she thought to ask, caring very much so about the answer.
