It was early in the morning, before the sun had risen and when the early birds weren't even singing their songs. Gyrfalcon had woken from one of her nightmares, this one with Cirilla's face. The woman who she could feel herself growing close to and who had helped to alleviate some of her pain was gone. Gyrfalcon thought that she only needed a day or so to collect herself, to come to terms with the skirmish at the border...
But she still hadn't returned.
Was she hurt? Or was she permanently gone? What if she never saw her again?
A streak of panic, painful and sharp carved through her breast and somehow planted itself inside of her stump. It ached and she knew she wouldn't be able to go back to sleep now. The brown woman would pick herself up and hop out of her den and out into the frigid morning air. Her head was low, gait dejected as she crossed out of Shiroshika's borders and further into the tundra. The trail was gone and her hope of successfully finding the sweet girl was severely limited. It was certain death for her to go out there alone. She was stuck, waiting here until her return.
Why? Why was she gone? She didn't understand.
Was it something she said? Was it something everyone had said?
Or was it because their beautiful vacation was now tarnished with that red bitch and her pet?
Tears would form at the edges of Gyrfalcon's vision as she let out a mournful howl, head raising and splitting the air as she called Cirilla. Come back... please... The call would say.
Her heart would ache.
There was no answer.
She sobbed and sat down, head lowering again as snow settled on her still form. Soon, she was just a part of the backdrop as the world turned on and lightened into a new day.
