Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

[sfont=PT Serif]She'd be lying if she said she didn't relish the change in scenery. Out of the forest that she had woken up in to a glade straddling the edge of cold stretch of land that the frozen copse inhabited. It was cushy, rich, lush, and true to its name, gold.

Absolutely disgusting. She made her disdain known by musking up the place, bringing the stench of the north to taint this paradise. She complained to @Rannoch and his companions any chance she got.

Her bravado aside, she was an old woman who had no desire to combat a tiger for meals up until her dying day (which would possibly end quicker than she'd like). This was a good place to be for her. Close enough to the lands much like her home, but gentle enough on her that she didn't feel an ache in her body every waking moment.

The crone pawed at the ground, marveling at its ready give. Слабая, глупая земля. Ломается как ничего...[/sfont]

Uriel enjoyed the plains, as they generally stayed within it as a cover. No one yet to come forth and try to claim so — and nor' did she smell anyone. Some part of her hoped, that maybe this could be that place she wanted, but the woman tried not to hold out too much hope, in the small chance it could be taken away. In the meanwhile enjoyed it as she could exploring it's nooks and cranies and often.. Watching the beauty that was of golden hour, through sunset and the rise of the morning, one can always find Uriel around up those times, and not stalking through the night too much — to snooze to wake up early to see.

She was particular interested in the fauna — an adventure to discover in the midst of the forests. It held usual of prey and small animals.. Though discovering that of any other, she came across a wolverine! For a moment to think it was a possible badger, for why else would one wander away from the tundras that they belonged? Curiously so, she watched from a distance as the small beast murmured and pawed at the ground..

What was it doing?

[sfont=PT Serif]Snorting with disgust, she backed up, tossing the soft, loamy dirt from her paws. She shook herself off, and flexed her claws in the ground.

Without looking at the wolf, she addressed them, keeping her back to them as she continued to stretch her limbs. “You vith Rannoch?”[/sfont]

It spoke!

Uriel held a widened eye look in surprise as the wolverine spoke of wolf-tongue. She had heard of other species holding the ability of times, the learning of communication — but she never met one, much less of that particular species. It of course stunned her for a moment where there was a loss of words, but a rather pleasant surprise to be admitted, especially when the name 'Rannoch,' hung within the air. It would take a few moments for Uriel to soften up from the surprise, and hold a neutral smile with a nod following along.

"Yes," she said, "did you follow him from the north?" the golden wolf inquired.

[sfont=EB Garamond]Khadne slowly shifted her body to look at the wolf after she'd spoken, to get a good look at them. The wolf seemed to be surprised, which amused the old woman. These wolves really knew nothing did they?

This one's fur was beautiful, a far cry from the ragged colors of gray and white and black that the wolves of her homeland. This one was all gold and cream. да. she trundled towards the wolf, tilting her head so her good eye could get a better look at them. “You lose your 'hole brain as vell?”[/sfont]

"Pardon?" From what she knew it sounded like an insult, and yet was the first time she had met the badger — a talking badger at the fact. She couldn't help but turn her head a bit as she looked at the other with a worrisome, and confused complexion on why so. She did not think there was something wrong with her.. Uriel thought she had a rather sound-head and tried to tread lightly onto others, but perhaps in some way she had offended the other?

[sfont=PT Serif]The old woman scoffed, her half-gray muzzle crinkling like an accordion. “Rannock forget everyt'in. You too?” she spoke slowly, as if to an idiot. Which, really, in her mind they all were.[/sfont]

Only then did she gradually understand what the other meant. Rannoch did not remember anything — likewise with others. A void in memory that seemed to be there, and Uriel didn't know whether to say yes or no, "I remember who I am, but not how I came to this land." Which in truth she had wished she was one of those who memories were completely gone, but alas was not meant to be. She kept onwards though, the past a faintest memory that she no longer wishes to discuss.

Though how she came from this land after banishment.. Was still a mystery.

[sfont=EB Garamond]Khadne grunted in affirmative. Why she was blessed (cursed?) with her entire life in her memory while these young folks lost it all, she did not know. Perhaps it was a random roll of the dice upon entering this world, whatever it really was. The wolverine approached the wolf, tipping her head back to look at her closely. She squinted her bad eye, the corresponding side of her face scrunching up as she did so. It was a funny expression, perhaps a bit threatening with the slight reveal of her teeth, but Khadne was too old to care. “You know how to hunt, да? I don't hav' to teach ev'ry young pup I come 'cross?” She didn't look thin, but perhaps that was because she had just arrived.[/sfont]
