Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

keeping vague! for members of Foghielm & those desiring to join

As the agreement came, the group decided to move toward. There was thoughts on where to go as @Valmúa provided directions, though in the end it was the unknown that called them. It was not as cold as the north, nor' tall as the mountains, or heavily forested as the temperate — rather they entered together in but a plain view of open wilderness.

In some parts she could see segments, small lingering forests in distances, hill around.. Uriel lifted her nose, though so empty as it looked, she could detect so much more. Wandering loners, even herds in the far distance, but not enough to tell what they were. She had a desire to roam more, though wondered if should stay close to @Rannoch and @Sindri until they find somewhere, as a base camp.

They traveled east, following Valmúa's suggestion. As they neared the plains, Rannoch noticed how grass began to poke through the blanket of snow. It intrigued him; how different was the area compared to the tundra? His answers were answered once they reached the plains.

The land was sprawling with rolling hills and grassy glades. Rannoch paused for a second once his paws touched the grass, in awe of everything they saw. "It's beautiful," he breathed, wiggling his toes in the grass. It felt so much different than the snow, but he preferred it right away.

Uriel and Sunneva had headed further into the territory, and Rannoch bounded towards them. "This is promising," he said, pulling alongside them. He looked to them then, wondering what they made of the area.

"I cannot deny to say that this place feels.. More homely, then the north." As Rannoch approached beside and viewed the wonderland, she admitted to so. Golden in her own view it felt more at place to be within the endless plains, where some of the grass ruffled in a yellow breeze, or otherwise a flatland of greenery. An occasional bush or tree was to be scattered about, but she noted in particular there was no forest in sight..

When she smelled the air too, it was noted she could only scent loners and wanders.. Though from their previous base of the Everfrost, she knew scents should not be completely trusted, as some might be claiming earlier then they were. Yet, there was a hope.

"Should we rest here for the day?" the woman inquired.

"Agreed," Rannoch said, nodding his head. "I had thought that we had found our home back in the tundra, but this ... he regarded the land before them with a sweep of his muzzle. "This is [i]wonderful" He exhaled happily, as though he was breathing out the stress of the previous days.

Uriel asked if they should settle for the day, and Rannoch mulled on the question for a moment. As much as he wanted to push forward and explore more, he knew they couldn't exhaust themselves. "Yes," he agreed, looking towards the knoll below. It seemed like a sleepy little glen; there was tall grass for them to sleep in, and he could smell the scents of prey and wayward travelers. But, like Uriel, it did not smell like any packs in the immediate vicinity, which relieved him.

"We should hunt first," he decided, looking towards his companion. "It seems like there are a lot of things around—you want to decide what we have?" Rannoch would defer to her lead.

Gazing around, the world was touched by the light itself. So open in it's beauty, to the birds within the sky, to the rabbits that fled in the distance — they could see it all within an eye grasp. It was a curiosity what more could be within the plains, for she knew this could not be it all Even in the distance though she could see the few scattering trees and bushes, the straight path slanting to hills and so — surely so, she could smell and hear faintly, the fresh water streaming from the distance. A river, or a stream was near them so.

"Perhaps we can fish?" she said with a hopeful smile, an ear flickering as it still can catch the faint sound of water rustling through. A current strong that surely it was nearby, and she couldn't deny.. A fish sounded pleasing if it was nearby — and well enough to provide for just the few of them for the time being.

Uriel suggested that they should go fishing, and Rannoch mulled on the suggestion for a moment. "I ... don't think I've ever gone fishing before," he admitted with a thoughtful frown. He had always lived in land-locked territories, where land and sky-bound prey were plentiful.

"Do you think you could teach me?" he asked. Rannoch was always willing to learn—especially when it would help benefit others.

"I sometimes observe the bears and how they hunt.." Uriel said as she chuckled slightly to his admitting. It wasn't completely uncommon for wolves not to know how to fish, for most ran beside the wind to gain a prey from those running. Waters were unknown land for mammals, they could not stay under for too long like the fish. Though in general she didn't like to choose the diving method, it was messy and caused a lot of noise — not guaranteeing they'd get any fish as well. With observing a bear.. Uriel managed just barely to grasp how to.

"I believe I spot a pond ahead," she noted, a narrowed gaze squinting ahead to a reflecting pat. It was like a silver within the grassy terrain, where she could see but the few geese flocking away from the area. Surely that meant that a water source was nearby, and that only meant food — but a place to quench their thirst, "shall we?"

Rannoch had never considered observing other animals' hunting tactics, but now it was something he'd find himself doing. "That's so clever," he complimented. Uriel then directed his attention to the distance, towards the pond's surface.

He turned towards her and nodded. "We shall," he replied with a grin. They set off then, heading towards the body of water.
