Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Autumn was here, blushed in beautiful reds just before the winter graced them. Celnes remembered, being told she was born around this time. Just at the prime youth of the reddish glows before they started to teeter away to the ground, an embrace winter as itself. If she remembered rightly, the deorwine was now around three years, an adult at her prime — and she had done so much.

When she thought of her childhood.. It was neither pleasant or unpleasant, she would so admit. Though difficulties and neglect from her own parents, the one solace she had was her own brother, though memories be forgotten of his face and name.. She would still cherish, and relish to those who remembered him, while she did not. Celnes tried to not think about him for her own sanity and sorrow. Now without him she flourished, a shakey kingdom, but one of her own, and that of a sole creation. Pride soared.

Though when she continued thinking, of those around her in her youth.. Defactoring her familial family, the Queen was not particularly close to anyone. She vaguely remembered but stragglers, followers in the wake like lost puppies for they knew nothing else. To what looked of the holiest deorwine, perhaps some held onto that.. Though she was a rather heartless one, keeping them at an arms length and only minor greetings. Even before her two kingdoms, the young Queen had her reign.

It was odd, to think of her fallen homeland.. For now she sat within the woodlands, sprawled onto a log with a simmering hum.

Living in the Jungle for a large portion of his life, Fergus rarely saw autumn. Truly, even in the early parts of his life, where he had been living in the cave, he hadn’t even seen much of the change due to the surrounding trees being evergreens and pines of various types. They didn’t change. Fergus hadn’t truly ever seen the change but knew that it existed. So, when things had begun to change around him, he found himself surprised, almost awestruck at the sudden change to the horizons. His own childhood had never been reds and yellows and browns – the vibrancy of which was… almost startling, especially when his muddled mind forgot briefly that the seasonal changes were happening.

He wandered from the fog-smothered forest home of the Nightwalkers, towards a newer area that he had yet to explore. In his sober moments, Fergus had developed a need to understand the territory around the forest that the Nightwalkers had claimed – he felt it would be… useful, for if they ever expanded, or aimed to take control of another pack. It, at least, seemed like a useful idea in Fergus’ mind. Whether it was or not… was debatable, depending upon who one asked.

When he slipped from the fog, and into the grass, and then soon into a newer area. The smell of apples filled the air, dotting the ground. Squirrels could be heard moving about in the trees. Tendrils of wisteria flowers hung down, most beginning to fall as the season turned from warm to cool. It created an interesting scent in the air, one that made Fergus’ mouth water. The colors were bright to his seafoam eyes, making him admittedly squint just a little.

Movement caught his attention, and a familiar pelt graced his eyes. His head tilted slightly to the side as he began to walk up to the woman, recognizing her from the ‘festivities’ of when the Warlord’s children had been born. Well, one litter of them, anyway. The queen of the Elkshire group, strange as they were, moved through the environment before him.

”You’re a long way from home,” Fergus rumbled, voice only just loud enough to carry through the trees.

"You are mistaken," she said with a narrowing look, "this is my home — an Nightwalker coming into Elkshire domain without presenting himself." She gazed from her log onto this intruder, a gaze of slight malice and mockery to claim she was so far when this was indeed, part of her claim, and below was where her litter and wolves lie.

She wondered why so many Nightwalkers enjoy coming to this land unannounced.. Though borders weak to outsiders perhaps, she had thought that their Lord would say likewise, that it wasn't but a place they can continually claim as they so please. Roaming is one, but the Queen desired one to at the very least, announced themself. She only vaguely remembered this fellow, but Celnes at the moment was not to pleased by his appearance.

The woman gazed at him with malice dancing in her eyes. Fergus snorted slightly to himself. ’Hoity bitch, she is,’ he thought to himself. He could only offer a slight grin to her words.

”You are mistaken, this is my home – a Nightwalker coming into Elkshire domain without presenting himself.” Fergus tilted his head slightly and laughed.

”Then let me present myself. I’m Fergus O’Conaill of the Nightwalkers. Nice to meet you, glad we could get that out of the way. But perhaps I am mistaken. I assumed you only claimed the area below – not the larger area as well.” He could admit, for once, that maybe he was wrong. He hadn’t crossed any scent borders he’d been aware of, however, so… he at the least hadn’t been aware that he was trespassing. He, however, had been under the assumption that they had only laid claim to the Elk’s Crown.

”I thought your people only held the Elk’s Crown area. Not also whatever this place is called. You got something interesting here,” he commented, glancing around. A treasure trove to someone like him, if one knew how to pick the fermented apples outside of the flat-out rotten ones. He could tell for the moment she wasn’t pleased with his presence – to be fair, however, most women weren’t. He was, for lack of a better term, ‘sleazy,’ and tended to make them uncomfortable. He couldn’t say he didn’t do the same thing to men, however, and with his little prize back home in the form of Siri… Fergus couldn’t entirely blame them.

"I am Célnes Déorwine, Queen of Elkshire — claimer of the Royal Wisterian Woodlands, The Elk's Crown, and the Sleeping Doe's Range." Though she did not say out loud, wherever the elk would touch, is where they would follow. She would venture further though into the Nightwalker claim, and likewise she would hope they do not the same. A desire to conquer it all but she knew she held no power to do so at the moment, and even then scrapped at times to take hold of the forests around the crown. Many would venture in and mock such a claim, and she would get hostile over so. Perhaps why she greeted this man with a more chilling touch despite an ally, for already she had too many wolves test her patience to these claims.

Though at least he held such colors beloved in her village. Brown to the touch, like mud and bark with but the faintest of light green — a gaze of color she was not familiar with such brown tones, but welcoming in the view. His voice touched in a way that irked her, like it was covered in slime of mud that she did not want to associate with. Celnes had to remind herself, that he is an ally and not just a random stranger — someone she could chase off so easily without an offense given.

"Be wary, a bear is within these woods, and she is not someone to touch or her children. Elkshire and them are currently in a peaceful alliance." Though he was wondering these woods.. She warned him of the mother bear @Mooksgm’ol. It wouldn't do good if he reported to Vengeance of such a bear wandering through, and could see him bringing his army forth for that of a fur coat. Yet, she was a friendly one, and someone that at the moments held a deal with herself. She would not let them touch her.
