Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

@Tiberius

She could smell them — the trace of caribou. Vendrussel licked her chaps as she held her nose close to the ground, firstly within the plains and their deep scent that came from grazing the area. She assumed they came down a bit from the snowy tundra to take a bit of the fresh grass before soon, winter would hit there as well. There was a group, and she desired for such a taste.

Being on the ocean they mostly resorted to seals and fish, as it was hard to drag anything more onto their isle itself. She sometimes brought onto caches on the brim itself for anything too large to be dragged, but even that it was rare. The larger it was the more helped it was needed, and many of the dragonford wolves tended to keep to themselves besides that of @Kei.

As she tracked the herd, she could see their footprints implanted into the snow, and prowled further, knowing she was close.

He had been stepping from the territory more lately, but not before he had made sure his stench coated as much as possible. No one would be able to press their borders without getting a strong waft of Tiberius and rightly so, considering he frequented them with a cocked leg. It was part of his daily routine, of course, but it had been part of his plan to completely drown out the scents of... outsiders. Allies or not their fucking scent wasn't welcome as a common feature of the lands.

His mind had momentarily drifted to @River as he strolled across the tundra, his marred features almost stormy as his silvery brows pulled down sharply. It wasn't so much that he was in a bad mood but... he was... he didn't know, okay? Tiberius was only certain of a few things. His skills and his routine of securing the lands in his patrols. Aside from that, there was very little that the titan thought he knew. His decision to remain distant from Reiko had been one he had made with a heavy heart but he was not yet ready to step back to normal with her. He would, of course eventually-- but for now, he would remain in his possibly childish bubble.

He could not deny the scent of caribou had drawn him near and the scent of a wolf had drawn him even nearer. No one he knew belonged to the scent and curious as he was, the titan prowled forward with the scent of caribou and wolf in his nose. A female, he had noted and quite close. His molten gaze roved around as he stalked both wolf and prey, his tail flicking out behind him as he watched for the woman belonging to the scent.^^

She was getting closer — the scent was fresh and she could see the leftover dropping of that herd itself. Most likely they wandered in the forest she could see ahead, as the wind passed by their scent.. Though as well it let the whiff of another come forward, and she momentarily stopped within her tracks. One wouldn't think the caribou was hunting her, as she took a deep breathe and took a look back toward someone, that was hunting herself. Vendrussel smiled lightly wondering if this was karma for attempting to stalk another in a venture of sorts, and turned around slowly, as she prowled down her pathway..

In the distance she could see a man, and gently called out while lifting her posture up, "Are you hunting me, or the herd?"

He had found the wolf who's scent lingered amongst the caribou. A tall woman housing athletism in a blue-grey coat, twisting herself towards him with a question on her lips. The titan stilled in his movements, his ears cuffing forward as his molten gaze tried to draw in more details of her from the distance aside from what colours decorated her form. His marred lips twisted into a smirk as he rumbled, "I aint decided yet." He had been curious of the wolf, of course, it was his job to be -- but he had started off with following the caribou.

The titan tilted his head as he appraised her, "yah git a preference, luv?" He asked, musing as he watched. ^^

"If you tried to hunt me.. I'm afraid it would be not be easy, nor' well for you." Though she teased and chuckled ever so slightly, there was a touch of coldness, and even threat to her tone. A man could attempt in all ways to catch her so like that of a preyful woman, but as a dragon of the north, she was not an easy one. A warrior amongst the northern seas, she knew of training, and even though he was larger, Vendrussel still had the confidence, — and the fearlessness to challenge such a foe.

"Otherwise, perhaps you would enjoy hunting a caribou with me." Though difficult that it may be, it would be far more easier to hunt with two.. She imagined the tactic of longetvity would do well here, as they would nip at the choice of prey, weakening it at the course of time.. Though Vendrussel knew that the caribou were far faster then both of them, she could only think of a few surprise threats to truly weaken a large foe of an appropriate, delectable choice.

Anyone could be hunted, he thought wickedly, even this tall maiden in blue. Still, her both playful and lightly threatening words had his scarred lips pulling up into a lazy smirk as he tipped his chin to her, "ain't ever said I wan' easy," he supplied in jest, though it ended up being somewhat true when it came to the opposite gender. His interactions with them were never easy, they all found a way to pull at a part of Tiberius that in the end, he'd likely end up with whiplash. "Nah," Tiberius mused, "yah git too much about yah ta give anyone an easy time, I reckon." Tiberius drawled as he flicked his tail, knowing better than anyone to underestimate someone purely because they looked so pleasing.

Sometimes the most evil of demons were hidden beneath sparkling eyes and a warm smile.

The blue maiden invited him to hunt with her and he tilted his head with an unwavering molten gaze, "alrigh'," he supplied, "git a plan, darlin'?" Tiberius inquired, interested to see if she had put any thought into this little quest of hers at all. ^^

"Maybe another time can play predator and prey," she said with a laughter, a faint reminder of childhood games that seemed but a blurr. Though she could remember the story, the faces seemed but a mystery that would not be thought too deeply. A game of tag though, tempting as children and as adults revolve into another at times — but even then, Vendrussel would never be caught, she thought smugly, but continued with a neutral smile.

The man held an accent she knew not off, and smelled like somewhere else.. Curiosity, brought from where he was from, but more wanted that of a meal then of questions, "I'll cut one off, you ambush," she said, simply said. Though she could do the same, the dragon thought she would run faster with her tall legs, while the man of more beef, could tackle the caribou much better. She would need to pick one though, that wasn't at it's prime.. Otherwise it would take hours.

Her words spoke of laughter reached his ears and he hummed as he tilted his head to her, "i's gonna 'old ya ta tha'," he mused as he eyed her. It was a common thing to say, eluding to two strangers meeting again but perhaps they would. The Tundra held many surprises, after all. It wasn't often that Tiberius thought to play. Always too serious and wrapped up in his duties to do little else but as of late, the titan had been releasing his iron grip on certain... rules.

Smart girl, he thought as he appraised the blue-grey woman from afar. She was leaner, likely quicker and he held more power behind his frame. A prime hunting duo if there ever were one to attempt to take down a caribou as just one and two. The titan stepped forward as he rumbled his agreement to her plan, "alrigh', not bad," Tiberius rumbled as he quirked his lip to her as he quietly approached her as he turned his molten gaze to the tracks in the snow.

"Wha' kinda one we goin' for, luv?" he swept his tongue along his marred lips, wanting to see just how smart the woman was. If he was going to go into a hunt with a stranger, he wanted to see how much common sense they actually had. ^^

"No one is too old for fun." She said with a chuckle following through. With how he spoke and presented himself, Vendrussel would think he was a older age, if not for looking like the primal time of a male wolf. She suspected he was about similar to herself, closely following two years, leaping into three. By no means was he small yearling, but neither were his legs looking tiresome, of grays alongst his black hairs. An old spirit, some would say.

"Smaller ones, newborns if possible," she said, since doubted the two alone could take on a full adult, "or perhaps you want to be risky?" though she wouldn't deny the attempt..

No one was too old for fun, she said, accompanied by a chuckle yet Tiberius thought that being too old wasn't his issue. He didn't have the time -- he always had something regarding his duties to do. He was one of two Samurai's who could protect the Pack, he had to stay on guard to do such a thing yet it wasn't just that, was it? No, he had to patrol, to ensure the borders absolutely reeked of him, he had to try and keep track of Hotaru and he just... he was responsible. What good was he when he was distracted? When he was distracted, things went wrong. There was just so much to fucking do and no one good enough to do it. "I ain't says i's old," he mused to her lowly.

She spoke of newborns, the smaller, less experienced ones with a higher possibility of failing to avoid them. He snorted as he rolled his shoulders, "yah interestin', luv, but I's not lookin' ta die at yah 'untin' plan." Tiberius eyed her with amusement as he quirked a silvery brow, "but if yah wanna go fer somet' not so easy, we can go fer one tha' ain't adult but ain't newborn," the titan offered in compromise, his disfigured lips twisting into a smirk. ^^

"Are we not similar age," a small of mischief upon her gaze with a crooked brow at this shadow of the tundra. He continued to talk like htat of someone of an older age and yet she was fairly certain he wasn't older than herself. Neither was she particularly old, musing to herself around of the age of two, and going eventually to year three. Rather young and within her own prime, Vendrussel was trying to find herself within the world — and the ford itself as the dreams called to her. It brought a wonder, if all these meetings of wolves were not just coincidence, but of a fate she knew not of.

"I'd say i'm more interested where you are from," With an admitting did she draw closer, though not in an allure of sorts but a pure wonder. An accent she knew not of, a scent of others in a land that vaguely reminded her of another black-coated fellow.. Yet knew not for certain if they were from the same realm itself, or another one drawing within the tundra. She at least hoped, he was not of Northfall — or a battle would ensue.

She was as mischievous as the rest of them, he thought, but she disguised it better than most. "Likely," the titan acknowledged with a slight hint of amusement as he continued to appraise her. Though he could also acknowledge that despite his young he really was, he did not often feel it. He was saddled with darkness and trauma, responsibility heavy upon his thick shoulders and with how badly he tried to fit with the wolves around him, it certainly aged him more than his years. "I's not countin'," he threw back at her with mischief of his own. Rarely did the shadowed man do anything one of his age would sooner do, instead he was duty-bound and rarely strayed from it, his desire to keep Shiroshika protected and safe out weighing his desire to do as the young did.

The lady dressed in blue and greys settled on approaching him further, a statement on her lips. Tiberius quirked a silver brow as he remained where he was, not stepping back with each step she took but instead he would stay where he was to meet her however close she deemed safe for her to get. "We tradin' information now, luv?" Tiberius smirked slightly as he tilted his head to the side, appraising her without care to hide his gaze. There was something of her that told him she was much like a reptile, a snake, perhaps, in the sense she was not dangerous until she was, striking when the time was right. Perhaps not with body in all aspects but the brain was just as dangerous as ones brawn. "Shiroshika," he grunted, "Pack in tha North East Tundra."

He told her of his home here, how was she to know that he had happened upon this world by change -- torn from his Valley by some unknown forces and dropped here. A native she might be, unknowing that wolves had started dropping from the sky. If she wanted to delve deeper into her knowledge then perhaps he would give more than the basics but for now, he'd tell her of where he came from now.

Behind him his tail gave a tentative flick, "this is where ya give a 'lil 'bout yah own dwellin's in return." Pack scents lingered upon her, telling him that she was of somewhere, too, but not ones he had smelt before. ^^

"Ah, I have met your wolves. Some time ago had a delightful date with @Antares." Vendrussel said with a low muse as a chuckle followed through. She couldn't help but call it a date, for though it was the first time the two had met — they had watched a beautifully scenery together and ventured to a 'secret spot' until a departure. Sad to say that same spot could be no more, as a pack dwells in those mountains who definitely had a presence, for their borders were not but a weak claim like others. She vaguely knew of them due to Kei.. Unknowingly as well there was a boy she grew fond of, @Valtyr who was somewhere around there, but the time being, knew not he was directly from that group.

"I have claimed near the nothern shores, hidden by the sea itself." An allure of mystery that the dragoness presented, for she didn't give an indication where it truly was be besides somewhere within the ocean banks. Her isle was not an easy find, though the beaches itself were heavily scented by the wolves of the ford. Within the spires of sepulcher could one find their luxury of an island, bathed in fresh water and trees of cover.. Sadly prey was rather scarce, and they retreated to claiming the brim as a hunting ground. For pure survival — with troubles brewing, she had no choice but to be more guarded about it then usual.

"I did not ask him at the time, but is Shiroshika a native pack?" Vendrussel had not met many who could be counted as 'native' in these lands.. As she knew more of packs many seemed to be newly formed, and none truly from around. A land of unknown names, a region she could not call.. All that there was but free-territory for wolves who heavily populated the land to take.

The use of date had the beast stumped. The man known as Antares was practically unknown to Tiberius aside from scent and knowing that they shared similar colouration but learning that the other shadow had meant this woman and had even gone on a... date with her was something that had him somewhat confused. Was there more going on under his nose between other Packs and Shiroshika that he had missed? "Inter-Pack datin', darin' of yah," he mused in a low rumble as he flicked his half-ear, appraising her silently. At least she was not a total stranger, he supposed, but he had not met her and he would not work off of her having gone on a date with a Shiroshikan for his opinion. The beast supposed he could see why Antares would have wanted to.

She was something of a beauty, not an ethereal one like Olive but more of a bold one, her dark, daring colours standing out against the Tundra and the confident but easy way she carried herself. Leggy, if that was something that drew you to someone but at the thought, Tiberius felt disgusted with himself for basing her attractiveness off of something so basic as her outer appearance. He hadn't spent a lot of his time on Earth appraising ones appearance and noting what he thought attractive and what he didn't, but as of recently something had woken in him that he could acknowledge when someone was attractive and it made him... feel lesser. Basic in his instincts.

It didn't surprise him that the daring woman had chosen dangerous territory to lay her claim upon, his disfigured lips twisting into an amused smirk as he grunted, "fittin'. A sea wolf, then." He had heard of the wolves who preferred the water to the shore, who loved the beaches and the rocky outcrops but it hadn't ever really appealed to him. In saying that, he hadn't thought himself a wolf of the Tundra before he had been woken here, either. So perhaps there was room for more change. "Whaddya call yerself? Yer pack an' yaself," he clarified, thinking she was snarky enough to not add it on unless he had been obvious in his desire.

Smart and on the ball, that's what she was, for she sought more knowledge and her own clarification if Shiroshika was native to these lands. He appraised her with a quirked silvery brow as he shook his head, "nah, darlin'. Reckon we all came from different places 'fore wakin' 'ere," it was common knowledge by now, he thought, that wolves had been dropping from the sky like big balls of snow, so he felt no way about telling her that now that she sought the information and not him giving it up without wonder. "Ain't met no native," he shrugged, thinking that it was unlikely she was native, either. ^^

"Don't they call them.. Star-crossed lovers?" Vendrussel chided with a continual chuckle, not differing the word 'date' and continuing to let the misunderstood continue. Though she wouldn't ask, nor' dream for it to truly happen, as handsome as the man may be — in the end the Alpha did not know of him, his origins, or his stride in life itself. The man did not comment about him in particular, a small indication that perhaps he was a silent fellow, someone who kept to himself.  At least he enjoyed the pack named Shiroshika, or else the northern wolf would have tried to whisked him away to her own land.

"I am Vendrussel, Alpha of the ford," a head lifted in pride as she claimed herself to be one. As small as it may be, within the end she still led but a small group of self-proclaimed dragon titled wolves, whom share their loyalty to the coast. As much as she may desire that of a larger pack, any day the dragoness would take loyalty over the numbers. Except she found it hard at times to interact with any but Kei.. They all seemed to be relatively at peace to keeping to themselves — and she would not admit that it was a rather lonely factor. At least she spent days wandering through the territories, though excuse was to 'survey,' part of the truth was she held a desire of communication.

"It does not seem wolves were part of this land." Vendrussel said and noted with a hum. There was no evidence of the canines being once from the land, and she had trouble digesting what really is this realm. Some part of her feared if it was all but an illusion, or beyond the day of the living.. But she could feel everything, and while had trouble remembering, knew who some was. It couldn't be a coincidence some from the order she knew of, had also found themselves in this place.
