Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She carried her bag through the plains, holding close to the strap so that it wouldn't drag onto the ground. Every once in a while when Roshanak saw something that seemed peculiar, like something shiny, she would approach in a curiosity, a thought to add to the wares.. Though the plains have not provided anything, normally just a pebble that had been smoothed out, most likely dropped by a crow some time ago.

She dipped near the river, laying the bag beside her on a soft rock. Roshanak hadn't hunted for some time either, she could feel her stomach growl in an irritation, and looked upon the fresh fish that may swim by. A humming of sounds as she watched gently, seeing a fish go by and waiting for that of a perfect time.. To strike!

A paw in the water, she slapped that of a salmon from it's banks, and catch it by the coastline before it wiggled it's way back to the stream. Dinner for one, for the time being.

Although she was slowly acclimating to the openness of the plains, she still preferred areas with more hiding places. Snow leopards were elusive for a reason and Atticus was no exception, shying away from most interactions though she yearned to have a friend. Her last attempt had been met with hostility, however, and still she held remorse for embarrassing herself in front of @Maeve. It had sucked away any of the confidence she'd once had after leaving them, so now she chose to stick to the shadows as much as possible.

Today, however, she fished.

A lone sliver of moonlight resting on the shore, Atticus sighed as she missed and missed again. Her heart wasn't truly into it, if she were being honest. Sure, she was hungry, but she had meals stored everywhere around the place that she could easily access instead. Fishing wasn't necessary.

A splash caught her attention down the way.

Amethyst eyes drifted until they fell upon a beautiful tigress, brilliant in her orange and black stripes. Atticus smiled appreciatively of the woman's beauty but said nothing, too afraid to ruin another potential friendship by poisoning the world with her words.

One was a tad tricky, for though she tried to paw it so, her claw had striked onto it's scale instead. A rather awkward haul as she attempted both paws to grab so, a leaning toward.. Though she realized, she was about to fall in — to accept what was to occur, she started to learn her head forward in that attempt to grab it at least with her mouth. A splashing of sounds as she was falling into the river, a sad attempt to see that of a tigress with so. Though her few salmon was safe, as her landing to the banks had been glanced — but there was someone away.

As she landed into the water, salmon in jaw and but a soaking cat, Roshanak moved up, and curiously looked at the white figure distances away. How unusual, she thought, to see  snow leopard within the plains. Normally so they take more northern mountains but not true tundra. Were they lost..? As she left the stream and placed her salmon onto the pile of three, now four, she looked over to the other and greeted slightly with a chuff of a tiger, "Greetings stranger, what brings you to the plains?"
