Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

for @Eserine

again she left the mountain-haunt;
away from the vague, old comfort she still perhaps found in being untrusted. she could almost say it felt like home  —  but home for her had been nowhere, and everywhere, for she had always been found. and on that mountain, she was never allowed high up enough to feel how ungainly she'd let herself become; never enough to, for once, let herself feel larger than she had any right to be.  so she dragged her paws around the snow-silver rivers, run off from always-winter. circled the old place where they had all first found her. felt it all; cold floral scents and frost and hollow everything.

and then she had left  ( for now )  and wandered the unending white; thought of what, if anything, she might be able to bring back to appease to the better nature of that raven's peak and pack.

thank you so much for making! < 3

^^It was the glaring reflection of the setting sun that stirred Eserine from her heavy slumber. Forced into consciousness with an inaudible yawn and a sloppy gaze of fluttering purple, the silver-strewn female found her new surroundings as equally perplexing as the conjured up dreamland she'd just departed. That recognizable sting of a never-ending winter tickled her frozen nose and towering peaks of jagged stone captivated her groggy eyes. Everything on the surface appeared so familiar, everything in her heart felt so... not. That mountain, while reminiscent of her home, could not belong to her family — or could it? Blackened nose would twitch at the consideration, unconvinced of either theory and still too sedated to think straight. The flimsy memories that were obtainable were foggy, a blended concoction of fact and dream that simply enhanced her confusion.

That inevitable stress of displacement had yet to settle in ( perhaps at fault of the parasomnia ), so the petite female, while sore, began toward the sound of trickling water for a much needed drink. Her mouth felt chalky from dehydration, bacteria from her last meal leaving a less than pleasant taste clinging like sap to her throat. How long had she been asleep? How severe would her punishments be? .. Had she always been here? The nagging internal questions felt endless. While normally far too timid to approach another, the scent and size of the stranger entering eye-shot wasn't overly threatening; answers came with risk and for once, personal desires outweighed the rules. They were another female, likely younger than herself, or at least she hoped. With artificial confidence and the icy water between them, her voice bellowed from hoarse lungs and carried across the nearly-touching banks of the silver currents. "Are you familiar with those mountains? Do - uh, do you know who lives on them?" She opted to use the common language instead of her native tongue, as she doubted the other knew much of her speaking preference. ^^
