Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Empyrean

As the rightful day grew closer, she found herself guarding from a distance with @Osiris on a few occasions, if she was not at the border. They would be the first-blood within this new land, a bigger legacy to the Ostrega's themselves. She could already feel the hope most had, their barings that came to this nameless mountain and the final settling that truly, this was not but a dead life, and a new place to claim and grow more. Many, many claimed to Empyrean's mountains, and now more could be heard.

As a mother was always.. Careful during birth, everyone knew besides the immediate family of Dirge and Alya, the rest would be sentenced away, "Are you excited for your newest siblings?" she asked Osiris.

Osiris had enjoyed Desdemona's company, as they had been distant since he had returned. However, this was entirely his fault since he had isolated himself for most of the summer. Nevertheless, it had been nice to catch up, and she had helped take his mind off Hydra's approaching birth.

"I am," he confirmed, keeping his eyes upon the whelping den as he turned an ear towards her. "It'll be good for the pack, too," he added. New life brought the promise of a long legacy, and his parent's first litter upon The Nameless Mountain did just that. Still, he worried for his siblings; he couldn't bear to lose any of them during the birthing process. The loss of his other siblings had made him all the more protective and grateful to those who had found their way to the Ostrega's newest claim.

Curious and eager to change the subject, Osiris asked, "Have you been down to the borders lately?" It'd been a while since he had, but he assumed that everything was fine. The wolves of Empreyean were both possessive and protective of their lands, and it was difficult for an outsider to breach the borders.

"Do you know of their possible names?" she curiously asked. As Desdemona was not a mother - and most likely never to be, she wondered how the process was. Did they think of names before the birth, or was it after? As wolves can have more then several, it was truly a curiosity if names were to run out. She looked at Osiris and wondered how the Queen named him so, or even thought of his. She couldn't think of what her own name was, but only remembered being referred to as 'Desdemona,' but without a warm meaning to it, or any intent at all. She didn't even know who named her.

She nodded slightly, "there are many more strangers here," she commented. Often at the border did the guard go, and often she has met many that seemingly hovered - and been packless. Though thankfully she had yet to have a scruffle on concerning any strangers coming too closely, most seem simply curious or didn't know how they close they were at Empyrean. With warning, she would send them off at times.

"I haven't," Osiris replied, shaking his head. "But, knowing my parents, I'm sure that they'll draw inspiration from the stars." He didn't know too much about the stars and constellations overhead, so her guess would be as good as his.

Desdemona then mentioned all of Empyrean's new members, and Osiris huffed in reply. "I don't know what to make of them all," he said. "And, honestly, I haven't made much effort to introduce myself." Osiris had kept to what was most familiar to him, to ground him here. "Have you met many of them?" he asked.

When she thought of it, there was a few moments where she could catch an Ostrega looking onto the stars. Though personally Desdemona did not know nothing of it, and while she looked up - her view was often short lived and went back to the ground, even as pretty as it was. She tried to think star related names and could only think of simplify ways such as ; Star, Midnight, Moon.. Crescent. If it wasn't for her personality surely a chuckle would come from it, as her eyes turned to the ground thinking that the Queen.. Surely not, would not use those names.

"They haven't the effort either. Most of them tend to stick to themselves," though she couldn't deny, she too tended to do the same. If they came across her path she would not turn away, but didn't entirely look for the newcomers.

"Shame," Osiris replied with a click of his tongue. "You would think that they'd seek us out—to get a lay of the land and see how they could contribute." They were here to step in while Hydra and Dirge were preoccupied with their newest litter. Osiris rolled his shoulder and thumped his tail against the ground; this did not bide well with him.

Dirge and Hydra would hear of this, knowing Osiris.

"How about scavengers?" he asked then, thinking of his conversation with his mother. "Have you found many?" It seemed as though Empyrean had cleared most of them out, but every-so-often some managed to get in.

"Some seem too curious, a wonderlust to who claims nearby." Unknowingly so how the mountain was heavily populated by many wolves of so. A curiosity that came to the wanderlust ones who ventured a bit too close, and a times Desdemona answered them, occasionally answering questions. It thankful none went further beyond their borders, only the occasional times where they hover around the entrance though — but none to go further. While it would be nice for some to perhaps join.. They also had many to the Empyrean name.

"Not many," she said, "have you?" When she thought of scavengers.. The foxes, coyotes and weak wolves that couldn't hold their own. Venturing to their mountain to catch some of the prey they caught — most in obvious, were chased out.

”Hm,” Osiris hummed in reply, his frown deepening, ”I don’t like that.” Wanderlust was unproductive; there was so much more that Empyrean’s wolves could do that would benefit the pack. He shook his head and sighed. ”I’ll have to make myself more available ,” he decided, licking his chops. Osiris didn’t like being too far away from Hydra, but removing himself would benefit them all.

When Desdemona replied, he nodded. ”Same,” he agreed. ”You would think there’d be more with the colder weather …” he thought, trailing.

"The land is very quiet, compared to the past." Though they'd never know who truly was bad as of yet. No strifes for true trouble or packs to be wary of, all but in a true peace that has been desired. But she couldn't help feel on guard, feeling like wolves of a previous generation would begin to reemerge.. She would hope not, though.

The peace was well-loved.
