This wasn't where she'd last laid her head - a simple enough realization, but one that hit at once with such a force that it rendered her motionless for a period of time. "Hebe." A hoarseness to her voice as she stared up at the lace pattern of vines and leaves overhead, the bits of dying evening light that cracked through. No response, nothing save for the rustling of trees and the groaning of their branches, the usual breed of nighttime orchestra. With some difficulty she rolled off her side, finding herself snugly tucked as if placed to rest in a snare of vines - the brambles snagging at her back on her ... her ...
Not her back, well yes her back, but the fur that covered it and the rest of her for that matter. An animal, something only made more apparent as she sneered and exercised the muscles in her face and tried to map out how different it all felt. Lifting one paw to worm her way out as if it were a poetic rebirth, but one she wasn't particularly excited to experience. Too big (from what she could tell) to be any sort of puppy, but a wolf stood to be the most reasonable answer. Not that much of this fell in the realm of reason. Something she had decidedly not chosen for herself, and certainly not to endure on her lonesome. "Hello?" Lacking the confidence of before as she wiggled out past her shoulders, head swiveling as she took it all in. A world reclaimed and not her own, beautiful in a melancholy way but not home.
Dirt, petrichor, and damp moss in equal measure - not all together pleasant collectively but somehow balanced, made a bit worse by the damp grime that clung to her and in particular the side she had been laying on for an undetermined amount of time. "Ah- woo?" Immediately feeling ridiculous for it and refusing to put in the effort for what could be considered an authentic howl. No husband, no underfoot daughter, just her and a world that felt too big in a body that wasn't exactly her own. Still, she kept her head up as her body bowed as she crawled the rest of the way out, shaking off leaves and hoisting herself up on the closest lichen coated rock formation.
No use in falling to shambles after all, she'd overcome worse than a four-legged form and a stint of solitude. There were things that needed to happen, mysteries that needed to be solved. The search for family was first of course, but some glimpse of her reflection would be more than welcomed, and there was a gnawing and looming sense of hunger that demanded to be addressed. The where, the how, and most importantly why most assuredly would come to pass, just in its own time.
