Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She had blacked out. And that was all she could remember, with the dizziness preluding her descent into darkness. How ironic that it would be that the Tundrian, hailing from a homeland in the farthest reaches of the North, would now awaken here. With a soft groan, she stirred. Her senses coming alive again, one by one. First was touch. Cold, solid hard ground beneath her. The unmistakable texture of ice. The rush of cool air around her. Silence, save for the far of calling of distant birds. Then her jade stone eyes opened, blurry in their vision. She squinted.

The wide expanse of land stretching for miles in every direction around her had some semblance of familiarity. She knew well what the barren terrain of the tundra looked like, and this one was no exception. Was she home? Back in her birthplace? No, no, that couldn't be it at all. The land markers didn't match up. There wasn't that suffocating sense of tension and pressure. That at least, was a blessing, even if she was hopelessly lost.

Rising to her paws, up off her sprawled belly, she tested her strength. Sore and stiff, but relieved to find nothing broken. An inch or two thinner than usual. Gods knew how long she had been out, or had had a meal. Shaking out her plush furs, sending a crystalline dusting into the air, she pressed her lips. Not one to ever panic, she surveyed the area more closely, trying to map it out. Then, down to business.

tiny post,, but i'll try to stay vague since idk the outcome of her hrafn thread yet

the shimmering veil that hung in all of its radiance – that which seemed ever prevalent, no matter which tundra she tread – had vanished by the time the sun rose to tug the silver vólva's lids up and open into wakefulness. being tundrian herself, tilde's daughter was altogether too familiar with its thin and stunted trees, brambles and snagging bushes and the so-sparse flowering of tiny arctic plants. and yet, despite those she'd met on the mountain, despite lingering here for days, for weeks on end ... this tundra was known, and yet a stranger to her.

for now, she'd parted from that rook-ridge; cast her bones out into the sprawling white of forever in some attempt to understand more of the lay of this land around her.

but it was the one before her who had finally given her cause to halt whatever lonesome progress she'd made ( or hadn't; time was hard to tell, lately ) and though there was a voice locked away within her, tove, as usual, could not make herself speak; so instead, she gave up whatever noise was stuck in her throat, in the hopes that this roamer might hear and see her as she saw as well.

had she arrived the way the grayling had?

Her isolation was not destined to last long. Ever aware of her surroundings, even during the times she was meditating, it was seldom that Keyni dropped her senses down to zero. Before her the expanse of white nothingness stretched on. She turned slightly, noting in one direction the outline of distant mountains. Higher ground. It was something, at least. If she headed towards those and followed them, maybe she would find a more...populated area.

Turning to begin her way towards the mountains, she paused. A flicker of movement from the side caught her eye. A white shape, looking her way hopefully. Her soft furred ears lifted. Another wolf! Ah, so she was not alone out here after all! Canting her head, the Tundrian studied her briefly. Female and young, not quite fully grown. And alone as well. With slow steps she closed the gap a little further. Then halted, presenting the other with a short, friendly wag of her tail to indicate that she was no threat. She waited to see what kind of reception she'd get in turn.
