Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She did not think she would be able to see the lights here. Though close to the tundra itself, she felt it wasn't as icy as the further north her pack seen on occasions - but as they too didn't live in a true ice home, it was but a rare occurrence. Such sights were a beauty to the eye though, as Vendrussel was basing by the Elsewhen's below depths, where the trees hung high into the sky - she couldn't help but look up, and gander at the scene above her head.

He rather enjoyed the bite in the air to these Northern reaches, the chill that nipped at his nose and his paws. It was a welcome respite from the harsh Summertime sun that bore down on his shoulders as he worked through the daytime, and a reminder that Autumn was not far away.

Quicksilver stepped from the treeline and at once, his powder blue eyes were drawn to a sight more magical than anything he could ever have imagined. Above the snow-capped spires were brilliant cyan lights that danced across a starlit sky, and he gazed up in awe. They were beautiful and unexpected, and he struggled to keep himself from staring.

But he was not alone. Nearby, a wolfess lingered and he turned his proud head to regard her quietly. His breath hitched at the sight of her, at the odd sense of familiarity he felt upon seeing such blue eyes on a dark face - reminiscent of the girl who'd haunted his dreams.

Memorized by the sky above, it twinkled over the glassy lake and the large trees over the land. Utterly so, Vendrussel felt she was alone in the life, like a calling as the sky sung but a quiet song through so - all unsaid words, but all the journey within above. She almost didn't notice a figure in the distance, if it wasn't for the small rustling of bushes, a beaver curiously had looked out, but seeing predators, had quickly left so.

Ocean gaze wandering to, and within the corner of her eyes a silver figure within the night, "Beautiful, is it not?" the dragon said, referencing above as she gazed back toward the aurora.

The druid's attention turned fleetingly to movement in the brush not far off, but he saw nothing at first glance - the beaver had already retreated out of sight. When he shifted to look upon the figure if the stranger who lingered close by, Quicksilver found her to be staring right at him.

She was beautiful, whoever she was.

He regarded her almost shyly, white-tipped tail giving a soft wag at his hocks, but powder blue eyes were averted to the lake stretched out before them and the lights that flickered across its still surface. “Yes,” Quicksilver agreed, and silently appreciated the melody of her voice, “I've never seen anything quite like this before.”

"Maybe the stars themselves have called us in a meeting. Who are you, stranger?" Some part of her always believed in fates, as the rocks of the ocean had called her forth in pursued dreams of delusion, she thought perhaps this gaze above brought but a meeting between the two gray-colored wolves. She looked over to him, someone who liked he belonged within the northern plains then that of the mountains, as he carried gentle whites and silvers, and though dark, Vendrussel thought she could make out unusual eyes colors, a difference.. Only the aurora above, granting that light.

“Quicksilver,” he answered simply, powder blue eyes searching the shadows of her face for any indication that she might be familiar to him. He twitched his nose, curious, as he paused nearby - not so close as to invade her personal space, just enough to steal little moments to study for any sign of recognition should she choose to let her gaze linger on him.

There were none, unfortunately, as the silver-kissed wolfess had already opted to dub him "stranger". Not all hope was lost, however, for he wondered if she might've experienced the same trauma of an unforgotten background as he had. “Are you from around here?”

"I am Vendrussel." Though she wondered if some would start to call her Venny, was Kei continued doing. It was a nickname neither was fond or hated by, but it definitely gave a more.. Softer outlook to the ocean woman, when she claimed to be a dragon descendant, and protector of her coastal claim. She could thank not too many knew of it besides the unruly neighbors, and preferably, she would like to keep it that way.

The woman shook her head, "are you?"

Vendrussel. He didn't know what meaning her name might hold, but he felt that it suited her. It sounded rare and exotic and he was tempted to repeat it, to test it on his own tongue, but he feared he might butcher its pronunciation with his awkwardness. Instead he let it replay in his mind, and tried to decipher if it was familiar to him.

Not surprisingly, it wasn't. Memories were few and far between for the druid, but while Vendrussel's name was lost to him he still felt that he recognised her face.

“Yes, I... ah,” he glanced to his right, half expecting to see the proud summit where he made his home from where they stood, but it was too dark to see that far. “I am from Vanderfell Woods. We live among the mountains in that direction.”

If someone were to ask what her name meant to be ; she couldn't answer. Most of her kin from the clan would say the same. Their names meaning lost in that of history, some like to joke they were made up via their parents spot, but no one would truly admit that so. They simply claim the translation had been lost through centuries, names from that of the dragons themselves.. Now lost. Their ancient language was but into smithereens of word speech, and only a few, knew of that language.

"I come from the coast," her tail flickered toward beyond the mountains and to the sea. Though Fate's Summit may be but a blurr in the night, it was possibility to sea that black blanket far beyond their own. Yet, at the moment, she could not see it either.

"What is Vanderfell about?" she so questioned. Vendrussel only met some of good name, though vaguely remembered the oddity that was the pack within the desert. She wondered if they were a band of rogues, or but wolves trying to survive. She curiously asked about the other though.
