While walking Elowyn and her… mate had found this old structure. They had decided that they would settle here for the day and night. Deciding on what to do further and where they would go. She had marveled at the structure though, and there were these weird birds she had never seen before. Even she tried to hurt them but she wasn’t very skilled at it. It was still surprisingly fun until they went to locations she couldn’t get them. Anteon was a far better hunter so he went to find them a meal.

She looked around the temple and studied the roots. She was just amazed that the roots could grow so massive and over the structure. She really marveled at them. All of this was like a dream, like it wasn’t real. While before she could recognize the plants most of these plants and species where unknown to her. It felt weird to be all alone, though she knew Anteon would return. It wasn’t like she would run away, where would she go? She couldn’t return home, she didn’t know how. Elowyn§ decided to study the roots instead a little oblivious to her surroundings.

No answers to her predicament seemed to be forthcoming. Nor did she really have anything to do... not that she felt that she ever had. Being alone, it felt normal. Perhaps not for a normal wolf but from what she could remember, the last time she'd ever fallen in with someone it was her accursed mother.

That had turned out very poorly for her.

So, alone, for now, was what it would be. Besides, it wasn't into the tougher months yet. She could feel summer on the breeze, warm and the season for plentiful hunts. At least it would be if not for the wretched dogs that seemed to plague this place. There was one in particular that harried her. It was large, formidable... but Blackfoot tried to keep it at bay. Was it worth losing her kill? Or would it be worse not being able to hunt after an injury with no one to help take care of you?

In the end, after her snarling and hackling at it didn't make it back off. Desperation made fools of everyone. She dropped her catch, a measly rabbit and fled. It wasn't worth being hurt. She could find something else to eat rather than go toe-to-toe with a dog that was every bit as large as she was. It wasn't worth it.

So, the woman walked onwards. Following the trail of something else. Something fowl.

 And a wolf, apparently. Great.

The blue woman would stop, ears tilting forward and then one tilting back as she hedged on different decisions. What was this wolf doing? Was she so desperate as to try to eat tree roots? Perhaps she shouldn't have let that rabbit go if things were that bad in this new land.

Blackfoot stayed back, studying the other from afar and then turning quietly as if she was going to just fade back into the woodlands without a sound or disturbance... until she stepped on a branch and snapped it loudly in half. She froze, looking over her shoulder and praying she wouldn't be noticed.

Elowyn scratched with her paw over the root, though it was almost like some sort of bark. She had never seen anything like it of a tree that would do such a thing. But the structure took as what amazed her. She wondered what would make a structure like this. She had been amazed that these rocks seemed to make a shelter. The female sniffled and tested every surface until she heard a snap. Instantly she froze and whirled around to the sound. There before her was another wolf!!!

Elowyn's eyes widened a little and then her tail started to wag. The first wolf she met since she woke up here with Anteon. She took a step forward, fear washing away quickly. It was not something scary that wanted to eat her. "Hello!," she greeted and offered a bit of a smile. She only had taken one step forward and would stay there. She wasn't sure if the other wanted to socialize. She sure hoped the other would, seeing she had so many questions about these lands. Maybe this other female would know.

There was no breath of air, no hopeful waiting that she would not be noticed. No, none at all. The other wolf would clal out to her in a friendly greeting and she knew that she couldn't just run away. Well, she could but that was a level of rudeness that even she wouldn't breach. One never knew when they would bump into the same wolves again nor did they know if said wolves were connected to others. That was a good way to screw yourself over if you weren't careful.

So, the blue lady would turn back around, face impassive as she stared at the other woman dressed in colors of brown. "Hello." She would mirror back, not nearly as enthused... and then nothing. Nothing as she had no idea what she wanted to say to this woman. What did you say to a woman like this? Well, maybe questions about this place would be a start. It certainly wasn't normal to wake up with no memories of who you were before or where you were.

There was a pregnant pause in the air until finally the blue would ask, "From here?" Because that would be a start. Find out if the woman knew anything about this place at all. Maybe she got dumped here by someone, she had no idea.

Elowyn dropped her smile and the wag of her tail when the female didn't seem to match her excitement levels. She looked at the other and gave her a tentative wag of her tail to show she really didn't mean too much ill will. Though it wasn't like the female was growling at her or attacking her. There was a silence after their first hello's.

The female then spoke, which had Elowyn shake her head. "No, not really. Me and my ... husband woke up not far from here. We are not familiar with any of these lands," she spoke then. Elowyn had paused at the mention of her husband because it was weird to refer to him as that. But it was reality and also that they were stuck in this place. "Are you familiar here?"

Blackfoot could see the other drop her friendly demeanor, opting for a more tentatively kind approach. Blackfoot still didn't respond in kind. Tail wagging? Smiling? Those were things that the blue she-wolf seldom did normally, let alone to a stranger. She was neutral in demeanor, that should be good enough to show her lack of ill-will.

The words that the other spoke were not reassuring in the least. Blackfoot's brow twitched at the news, as if she were fighting back at scowl. It was deeply concerning that this was what seemed like the norm. Waking up randomly in some strange place. She grunted, the only verbal component that would really indicate her concern on the topic.

"No." Ah, she should probably elaborate since their stories were strangely so similar. "Woke up on the shore. Northwest." She tilted her muzzle in the direction she'd come from.

Then she would give a shrug, "Not alone then." In regards to the strange waking up in a new world that they'd had. It was .. reassuring? She guessed...

Elowyn had dropped the smiles by now. Her ears has flopped back when this female said she hadn't been familiar. Strange. She had the same thing happen to her then! That got her interest. "You woke up here too?," she asked for confirmation. It seemed to be a regular occurrence. Somehow that made it even weirder that wolves were transported to this place. Elowyn couldn't even think how things like this would work, how they could just wake up in a different place.

"You woke up alone?," she asked. She had so many questions but she felt that the female wouldn't really appreciate that. "My mate and I were traveling together and then the next morning we woke up in this place. We didn't even know we were moved or how to get back to where we were before." She explained a little. Maybe the female didn't care maybe she had some insights or could confirm she had the same thing happening to her.

The other wolf asked for her confirmation and Blackfoot would give a single nod. Reaffirming that, yes, she'd certainly strangely woken up here too. There wasn't a word on just how weird it was. She was sure that the other could make that leap on her own.

To the question of if she'd come alone? Another singular nod was given. "Always have been." A slight elaboration. Truly a gift from the heavens. "I think..." There was a bit of uncertainty in that flat tone. Her memories were drawing her blanks on a lot of things including that... But she couldn't think that she'd ever have wanted company before. Especially not with the kind she'd grown up with. It has been better to be alone... Although in a place like this where wolves were randomly dropped in?

She wasn't sure anymore.

"Where're you from?" Maybe that might provide some insight. She could relate to the weirdness of it all .. but at least this one had someone here that she knew. Rather than trying to figure out answers alone.

Elowyn kept her eyes on the female when she revealed a little bit more. The female couldn't seem to be remember if she had been alone. She couldn't image if she also had forgotten her family. Perhaps then maybe things had been easier? No she didn't want to think about that. She didn't really know what to say, she couldn't help the other female.

"I'm from Heathmouth," she spoke. She wouldn't just do a name drop just yet. It was kind of nice to step down from the royalty role. For once not the daughter of Laurence. "Part of the Bond of the Sentinels. They are a group of packs that are based on arranged marriages. You might have heard of them?," she offered. "My husband is from Northacre," she added, maybe that would give her something more to remember.

Heathmouth. There was no flash of recognition, no indication that she knew the name. Because really, it truly did mean nothing. She'd never heard of it before in her life. When the other spoke further about some bond of sentinels, she was none the wiser.

She wasn't sure if she liked the sound of it either. Arranged marriages? "Forced ones?" She questioned with something like distaste. Was that... Normal? It sounded abhorrent.

But as for recognizing the names. "Never heard of them." She almost wished she had. Then it would have given some sort of calm to the chaos of this world.

Although, maybe she was glad she didn't know these fellows with their arranged marriage pack.

Elowyn frowned at the word 'forced' because she didn't feel it was completely forced, it was normal, a duty, an honor! The distaste in her tone was clear. Elowyn hadn't really met other packs where this wasn't a thing. She blinked in confusion. "What do you mean, forced?," she asked, almost innocently. "It is how things go," she commented. Did this female come from somewhere else? If so, what was normal for her?

"Well, then I am not sure I can help you further," she admitted. "I'm Elowyn, by the way," she offered in a friendly matter. Not sure if the female wanted to know that or would do anything with it.

The other woman frowned at her, as if confused by what she'd said. Perhaps something so foreign for her was as simple as breathing to the other she-wolf. "There's no choice in mate." The woman elaborated simply. "It's forced." At least it was to her eyes. If one couldn't choose who they would wed and instead were paired up with no say so, then she saw it just as she said it. It seemed like a horrible thing to her. She'd hate to be told who she had to mate with.

It was almost as strange as this whole waking up with no memories thing.

"Well, then I am not sure I can help you further," The blue wolf shrugged. It was what it was. The other had already helped plenty by telling her own similar story.

"Blackfoot." She would say in simple introduction of her own name. Elowyn. She'd remember that, just in case she needed to later. "Thanks." Ah, she should probably say why... "For the information." There. "Helps." So that she didn't feel quite so alone in how she'd come here.

Elowyn frowned slightly when she spoke about the choice of a mate. The female frowned. "Females never get to choose their mates," she returned to her. Because in her world females didn't get to choose, they would find out who was their mate. "You didn't get a mate?," she asked curiously. "Are you all alone?" Elowyn disliked the thought of being all alone, her whole upbringing was about the fact she would be alone if she didn't listen which was enough incentive for her.

Elowyn dipped her head when hearing her name. She had an interesting vision this Blackfoot. "You're welcome. I hope you start remembering," she was so glad she didn't forget anything. Though perhaps that also made it harder as she didn't know if she would see her family ever again.

Females never get to choose their mates? The impassive female was unable to hide more distaste from filtering into her features, this time by way of an upward flicking of a lip. It was here and then gone as she listened to Elowyn's words. She felt she'd rather jump down an endless pit than have a mate forced on her, one that she had absolutely no say so in. Not just that, but one that males would choose for her. Hell no. "No." She answered when the other asked about if she'd had one. "Don't want one." At least, she'd never found a male that she particularly liked... or maybe she had and she couldn't remember. That would be the most horrible. Perhaps the no memories thing was a blessing in disguise. "Doesn't sound fair." She would say to the part about females not choosing their own mates. "Males choose?" Or maybe there was some sort of theocracy that paired together this wolf and that... which didn't sound much better to be honest.

"Always been alone" She answered to that question. Although she wasn't sure if it was true or not.

A nod of gratitude was given when the other wished her well on remembering. Elowyn didn't seem the bad sort. Friendly enough, very friendly. There was a pause and then Blackfoot would say, "Hope you find familiar lands..." Was that awkward? Weird? She knew that Elowyn had woken up in this strange place... maybe it was just a matter of wandering until they found familiar grounds once again. Perhaps her strange pack of arranged marriage wolves would be there. Far away from her.

Elowyn was surprised by the distaste that came onto her features. It made Elowyn feel bad, but she didn't understand why. Was this bad? But it had been so normal for her. Blackfoot was clear on the fact that she didn't want a mate. But she wondered why she was so reluctant about that, because it was nice to have a male take care of her. She never had to hunt or worry about food. Elowyn shook her head. "Parents choose," she returned shortly. "It is the children's duty to became good husbands and wives," she added, which had been drilled into her brain. "Though it is often the father's that choose, so sort of the males choose," she admitted then.

She didn't know what was unfair about it. Elowyn's gaze turned compassionate when the female spoke about always being alone. She could somewhat understand why the female was reluctant to make contact at first. She probably never knew what it was to have company. The sandy colored female took another step forward, no one deserved to be alone. Though, she did realize that this was probably the other's choice. She smiled, she hoped that she would find familiar grounds. "Thank you. I hope that for you too," she wished. She then paused. "I'm always happy to offer your company when you feel lonely," she spoke then.

Parents choose. Ugh. She imagined Amelia picking the absolutely worst husband she could find for her daughter and imagined that some pairs probably ended up miserable. In her mind, it couldn't be anything but terrible living that way. "I see..." Was what she finally stated. She'd learned all she could stomach of those traditions and had her opinions. However, she wouldn't attempt to sway the woman one way or the other. It wasn't her job nor did she care enough to. If Elowyn was fine living that way, then fine. Blackfoot would just steer clear of any sort of packs that were like that.

When the other she-wolf mirrored her pleasantry, the blue would nod in thanks. Although the next half of what she said, had her glancing to the woman curiously. She was surprised about the sentiment that was given and a thousand things flashed in her mind. Ways to remark in annoyance, ways to play off the words. Truthfully, she didn't know how she felt about it. She'd always been trained by her horrid mother to spurn such affections but in the very nature of the wolf she felt the pull to such things. She didn't know where she would end up or if she would join a pack or continue to be alone. She was very conflicted about such things.

So, she decided against being rude and opted for a, "Thanks." Simple. Easy. No obligations. "Am fine though." Or so, she would attempt to always rationalize to herself. Then, before she could get any offers of joining that strange group or before she could get offers of friendship, she'd dip her head and give her farewells. "Good talking to you, Elowyn." And she would attempt to beat a hasty retreat.

Elowyn didn't get a lot of feedback from the female about their lifestyle and she wondered if that was because she didn't have an opinion about it or a lot of opinions and chose not to tell her. Elowyn would never find out. The female probably had her opinion of it. Elowyn didn't even know her opinion on it so she was glad that it didn't come to a discussion. She would probably defend what she knew.

"Alright," Elowyn spoke when Blackfoot assured her she was fine. She dipped her head quietly. "Hope you find what you are looking for, Blackfoot," she wished her. She truly wished her well even though her conversation with the female had shook her a little. That what she had been taught was not normal. "Have a nice day," she wished as the female retreated.

- end -

Thanks for the thread!
