Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

For @Crow.

Life was quiet. Calm. While Ragnar could easily say he enjoyed sitting and listening to the wind through the pine trees, to the waves of salt over rock, he also felt restless. And so he decided to seek out the shoreline at the base of his mountain in hopes to seek some thrill, be it by exploration or the hunt- or both.

He followed a creek at first. A creek which flowed into a larger river, one which he knew snaked through the mountains and down the foothills out of the territory. What he didn't know was that such river forked at one point, snaking through golden grasses before spilling out into the sea.

Golden paws met white flat beaches clustered with black rock. Ragnar had seen more beautiful scenery at the ocean before. Little tropical coves of pink sand. Some leading into glorious caverns. Here however, this was home and it was filled with many prizes to be had, he knew. So he began to dig.

Silently the ebony boy and his corvid companion travelled through the snowy north. Moving without stopping for much more than just a couple bites of something to eat, left behind by something larger hunting in these lands. Never settling down any longer than a carcass would remain fresh and edible - picked clean from the bones to offer them enough fat to last them until the next meal.

The beauty of the treacherous mountain had gone completely unnoticed by the soot boy and his companion. The cutting cliffs were simply travelled carefully while the bitting cold was dealt with by travelling when the wind was less brutal - and taking shelter when it was under tress and bushes, or caves to break the wind from chilling them to the bone.

For now the wind wasn't terrible, and so they continued. Down the sides of the snowy slopes, only to come across a blond digging in the snow for something... Stalking from above, the two vultures watched to see if they could take whatever he found.

Down the slopes the two scavengers descended. Down the slopes of the foothills which Ragnar called he and his family's own.

Flipping one black rock over after another, his luck finally makes way as he flips over one to discover a large blue crab. He does not go unscathed, for the moment he flips the rock does the creature take his claw and clamp down on the ankle of the not swift enough wolf.

“You little shit..!” The words hiss between clenched jaws, which then so unclench and crunch down into the shell of the creature and Ragnar jerks his limb, to reveal a nasty slash he'd of rather not had. Still, a large crab meant a happy meal.

Here they would watch carefully for whatever the man was up to. Whatever he would find. With hungry eyes they would pry from above, maw and beaks watering at the thought of something being interesting... Ears drew forward as they cursed aloud at something they found beneath some rocks.

Slowly they would make their way down to meet the man and their injured leg - of which they cared little if nothing at all about. No, their mind was on the stones he was turning over. Picking their own rock, Caw would hop off of his companion's back and curiously toss his head to one side. Crow on the other hand, tossed a skeptical eye at the pale man before quickly turning over his own stone...

Nothing

With a disgusted look, lips peeled back in a less-than-approving glare down at the empty spot beneath. Even Caw looked up at him, then at the pale man accusingly as if they were trucked. [sfont=Special Elite]“How?”[/sfont] He croaked at the man, hoping for advice on how to find the miracle crabs, the quick food they sought.

Gonna wrap this up since Crow is out ftm.

Two dark figures decend from the slopes of his home. Here, where the mountain face fell to the beaches, there was no forestry to cover the pair's arrival. They were both Crow and a crow.

Ragnar's head lifts, watching the young wolf turn over a rock as he had, disappointment then showing on his features as he comes out empty. Even the bird looked disappointed.

“Maybe the sea provides for only those that call it home.” Ragnar speaks and with it, suggesting his placement here on this land. Shrugging, Ragnar lifts the blue crab then into his jaws. Another glance passed to the loner, he wonders if he would stay or go.

Either way, Ragnar moves back to the river and follows its path back into Northfall which he'd come.
