Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

It had all been a prank, an innocent prank. Well, maybe dying Odin’s son’s hair black was a bit much, but it was just a prank. Eventually, it would wash out and he would return to his normal ginger hair. It had been hilarious to see the mismatch of Thor’s beard and hair. He swore, even Thor’s own wife was holding back giggles. But no, blood brother Odin had no sense of humor. So he had been sent to the Bifrost, sent off to pay some kind of punishment.

When Loki opened his eyes, the ground around him was burnt and smoking. He tried to get to his legs but toppled over when his balance was how it usually was. But with his past of shapeshifting, he was quick to gain proper balance, and he gave a loud, annoyed sigh as he realized he was in the body of a wolf. “Oh v'ry comical, broth'r.” He gave a hard chuckle, it is obviously forced. He looked around him, at the mountain and snow and the cold.

This place wasn’t exactly bad; it felt good on his fur and it was always fun to turn into some other creature. If this entire realm was that of snow and ice, it wasn’t exactly a punishment for the half jotunn, half-god (which, he says, made him a full god). But, he tried to push the thoughts away, this didn’t exactly feel the same as other times he had been in Niflheim or really anywhere. Whatev’r, he decided. He could enjoy his punishment here and look at the snowy mountainsides.

It was just this very day which Sindri had happened upon these mountains. Her travels and endless searching had worn her and the Gods sought it fitting to allow her rest amongst another's keep. Cloudrest. The woman whom governed the land was kind and Sindri, in a bind, took the kindness greedily. She would owe the woman a debt, she knew.

Perhaps, a token of appreciation by a hunt. Sindri scours the sloping vale hidden within the towering white mountains. Within this vale she followed a creek and soon it lead her. Not to something, but someone. She pauses to look over the wolf. A very tall one, streamline and a multitude of swirling dark and light colors.

The little shield-maiden keeps her distance and holds her ground. She woofs out a greeting into his direction...but if he is not truly wolf, would he understand?

The last thing he needed was for some wolf to come to him, and try to, what he assumed, was speak to him. A groan easily left him, as he walked in a quick circle before turning towards the stranger. “Oh by Odin! He sends wolves!” Of course this would happen. But he also knew that he would be like this for a few days at the very least. Maybe he could get this world to care for him, after all his godly charm would completely be able to awe this little minded wolf.

So with a friendly smile on his face, he flashed his teeth and walked closer to this wolf - female. Wait, he wasn’t staring? Oh by Odin, his nose was strong. This would be awkward. Whatever, he could deal with stuff later on. Right now he wouldn’t mind a feast. “Aye, hello wolf. Wh're might I findeth food?” Maybe this woman had already killed something, and he could somehow make fire and cook the meat. But he wasn't aware yet, that Sindri very much understood what he was saying, and that he would very much understand whatever she said.

A groan from the other wolf before he spins around. Her ear twitches, the only sign of her dissatisfaction as she remains silent, studying. Yes, she was a wolf- but he was too, was he not? And he spoke of the All Father, too. Her head tilts, curious still despite what ire she might have felt.

So he comes nearer and flashes a smile, asking where one might find food. “The land is promising of it. You've only but to hunt it.” She speaks then, her northern accent thick yet her common spoken slower and well pronounced. If he was a scavenger, she would not supply. While he was a streamline wolf, he did not look malnourished in any manner. Surely he was capable all his own. “Welcome to Cloudrest, wolf. A little stab back at him for what he had said earlier...
