Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

@Guildenstern Time to get the bros be bro-ing again.

^^
None of it sat well with the archangel. To be chased away out of their meadow of flowers by a bunch of deer. The longer he sat on it, letting the thoughts fester, the more outrageous it seemed - and the warrior within him wanted to correct the ridiculous scenario before they moved far from the prairies and let it hang over his head for the rest of his days.

Brushing past his brother with an attention stealing shoulder bump, Rosencrantz casted a gaze with his one good eye to his only sibling over his shoulder, silently beckoning him to walk with him toward the watering hole, away from Miriam and her daughter for them to talk one on one. The woman had good intentions, but he was no saint. Far from it.

As soon as Guildenstern wasn't within earshot and not Miriam, he spoke with a fire in his tone. Low and brewing with a tone that was almost lost, and yet found once more. “Brother — I wish to correct our departure from the meadow. I loathe being chased away by prey.”

Guildenstern had returned back to the plains after his own excursions in the forested south. The tether between the brothers was well-worn and frayed, but it was a braided leather, something that could not be so easily broken by distance or time.

Stretched out on an elevated mound of dirt, Guildenstern yawned, casting a lazy glance at his ghostly counterpart. He noticed the beckoning, and rose, taking his time before he followed.

Guildenstern sniffed, his brother's ire unshared. “If we don't plan to claim the land we stand on, why do you care? I'll fight for a home, not a meadow.”

Almost disgusted by Guildenstern's lack of motivation or care for what had been done. No he neither cared for the meadow nor to claim it, it had few prey that interested him but enough for them all to get by - but it was the reason for their move that ticked off the warrior more than anything.

“We were moved by deer, not because we decided to.” With a curl of his bare sided lip and ears folding back, he was unnamed with such a thought. “Our kind regularly shits them out and we let them move us? It's shameful.” And more annoyingly so that his own damn brother did not share that same annoyance. That same burning of a flame in his chest that desired to remind those prey that they would not move them. They were predators, and they would move at their own damn pace not because they decided to settle and eat some petals.

“One was even pregnant.” Of which they normally would pick out of a herd as weak and easier prey.

“Then go kill them all, Rosencrantz. Maybe one will kick you in your other eye and you'll have as much sight as you're showing now.”

He matched his brother sneer for sneer. His entire existence he'd been a weapon for others to point. He would not be so at the hands of his own brother. They had escaped that life, woken up in a realm of choice. “This is not a cause I care about.”

^^
He sneered at his brother's comment and lack of interest in the matter. Honeyed eye glaring at his silver hues. “You bring shame to our kind and name.” Was all he had to say on the matter any further. With their conversation over, Rosencrantz would return to the group and leave Guildenstern to his own devices - never to forget this moment should he desire a similar cause in the future.

For Rosencrantz was not a noble beast, he was furious and vengeful at times. Even he knew that going alone against a herd of deer would unlikely fall in his favour and for this, he felt betrayed.
^^End!
