Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

“If they'll ever get the chance to socialize with a Nightwalker that does not carry the sacred coat colors.” Almight commented softly with a chuckle. “You think the Queen will hurt any of them if they're born a different shade than brown?” He asked then, a little concerned now. He knew his own father would have no problem with this, blood only meant something to him if it were useful, but the younger Rache was... protective of them, in a way - the same way he'd protect his brother after all he'd done. He was probably the only one wanting to keep the Rache family whole.

He laughed then at her theatrics, nodding with a rumbled; “Alright alright.” No, he wasn't going to their queen again if he didn't have to. He found the woman to be cold and a bit crazy now that he knew the rules of the Elkshire folk. He might mention to his father that a few members of their allied pack spoke poorly of the rules they had to follow, but he wouldn't drop any names - and he doubted his father cared enough to tattle on them. This was the queen's problem, not his.

She considered the question and then shook her head. “I don't think she would hurt them,” not her own offspring, she doubted even bigotry would cause her to go against her own canine instincts, “But if they were white, she may very well send them to live with their father.” Then Almight would be able to play and teach his little siblings right there in his own home.

She almost wanted that to be the case.

She knew that it would likely be the outcome if any of her own offspring were to share her magnificent white coat, its pure colours so different from anything wanted within the forest. She did not want her future children to be sent away to the Nightwalkers - or anywhere, really. Not that she had anything particularly against the man before him or his pack but she knew of mercenaries, of the danger their lives would be in. Plus, there was the fact that they would need to have noses desensitized from their leader's offensive odor or they may in fact offend him.

A grin lit her lips and a moment later she paused, ear twisting back into the wood. Listening. A distant call?

“Unfortunately, I think I must be off. You know the way home from here?” she would ask, though she had never been there (though her trails had taken her past the Hazy Meadow only to flee from it).

It was a shame they couldn't be friends.

Well, that calmed him a little. He almost liked the idea of them coming to Nightwalkers, if it weren't for what life would await them plus the fact there were many litters already planned. Vengeance wished to make an army of flesh and blood, which was perhaps a bit more humane than forcing randos on the street to join his cause. The children of the Nightwalkers would know no different, nor would the Elkshire babes.

His ears cupped the wind that carried a call, one not meant for him. He smiled then, knowing what it meant for their conversation. “I'll get there one way or another.” He rumbled with a wink, turning then. His massive paw hovered in the air as he paused mid-step, calling over his shoulder; “Don't make them skin you, Meissa. You're more sane than any of 'em.” And he meant that. He couldn't decide for her to leave or to stay, but somewhere he did hope that anyone who even had the slightest doubts about Elkshire would pack their bags and go someplace else. It was with that he left the forest again, finding his way home more easily than he had expected, but he wasn't thrilled to be back.

Meissa grinned back at him. “Oh, I won't, don't you worry,” though, it felt satisfying to be told as such. Yes, she was more sane than any - or, well, most - of them. She knew things that somehow didn't get through their thick skulls. Oh well, she supposed, can't have everything. “See you around, Almight Rache!”

And with a flick of her tail, into the heart of Elkshire she returned.
