Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

@Aslaug, @Ynness, @Asgeir, @Elentari, @Krakarak. Figured this can be a one post only type deal and then everyone can start exploring! Will close this up after a little while.

From the moment he saw the large mountain chain, stretched along the length of the coast, Ragnar knew it to be a place worth visiting. Coming from the south with the sea out to his left, he would greet the northern mountains at its foothills to the east. From here, Ragnar could be met with the view of the mountains close to the ocean in one portion, yet spanning down to a lush evergreen forestry at the next.

Today was a good day for exploration. The sun rose high in the sky, the land here cold and yet comfortable for their dense coats. Ragnar lifts his muzzle to the open skies, calling out for his family to come. "Look what I've found!", he sings happily. If this land proved its worth, the Stormborns might have found their final destination, their home.

The dark avian wasn't travelling too far away when he heard the call. It was wordless and wouldn't hold much meaning on its own to the bird. However, there was something in it... something he recognized as the patriarch he'd met before. The absolutely wonderful one who told him of the gods and was looking for his family to start a new pack.

A new pack that the raven would benefit immensely from.

So, he angled himself around and turned to make his way towards the sound. Overhead he could see the wide expanse of coniferous trees, here and there were goats that were grazing and migrating around. There were deer and prey aplenty. It was enough to keep him in high spirits as he saw the whitish lupine shape below. That was his guy.

So, the raven let out a loud croak to signal that he had arrived and then spiraled down like some great vulture. "Ragnaaar!" He called out in greeting before landing on a tree limb above the man himself. His beady eyes would stare out, waiting to see who else was a part of this group.

Aslaug was content, for now, to follow in silence.
Some might confuse the quiet for lack of intelligence, but Aslaug was simply absorbing all that surrounded them. For a girl of her age, it was overwhelming... and she was not half so bold as her adventurous siblings. Obedient to a fault, this new world was something that confounded her. She knew it was the work of the Old Gods, and knew Loki to be at the heart of this mischief... she simply did not know to what end.
Ragnarsdotr was adjusting as best she could, but not quite so good as it as she wished to be. She was thankful for their father being here. Without his guidance, she feared she would be lost. But such a thing she would never say aloud (even if it might be obvious); Aslaug only wished to make her family proud, however this might be. Near enough to the man when he called, Aslaug was quick to go to him—having been sitting in quiet contemplation of the implications of all that had happened—and once he was in her line of sight, she saw one of Odin's creatures calling to her father.
A boon, this companion. Loping toward her father and greeting him submissively, her pale gaze looked to the one in the trees. She wondered if the Allfather had sent him, or if he was simply here on his own accord; even Aslaug knew the Gods, Old and New, could be fickle. Aslaug would honor them still.
