Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Ragnar had seen rocks like this before. Jagged, dark things that stuck up out on the waters along the edges of The Wall from which he lived. But here, these were far greater, as more imposing, who's peaks on one rock island reached out in height like a mountain in its own right. It reached the skies, alight with colors of orange, yellow and red as a new day greeted the world. Out here with the cold, crisp chill of the northern tides, Ragnar felt at last at home again.

Her last two excursions on her own had not gone well, and it was with great reluctance that she latched herself firmly to her family's movements, instead of veering off on tangents. She couldn't afford not to. She trailed behind her family, occasionally stealing brief moments alone with her father more than her siblings.

Their journey along the coast had taken them to the most peculiar sight yet. Just off the coast was...no, not islands, but just...rock. The stones jutted out of the water, as if thrown by something up high, or rising from the ocean's depths. She could not tell, and dared not to waste her energy thinking on it. Instead she limped over to her father, seeing the look on his face and knowing, just knowing, that this was were they would stay.

All of Ragnar's children were already becoming independent in their own right. Though they were still young, leaving their birth home and taking the role of a loner had pushed them to find both that independence and push them to act far more grown then a usual teenager should. They had done well thus far, despite one wondering off and the father was proud. Soon, too, they would have a home to be proud of as well.

Ynness is not far and soon she comes to stand at his side. “Look at that.” He prods with his muzzle towards the rock formations, “Like the spine of the great Leviathan.” He did not know if she had been told such a tale, despite their mother speaking often of monstrous creatures, myths and of course, her norse gods.
