It was like a fairy-tale, a place straight out of a story for children... and yet... they were really here. The abundance of blues and purples and the butterflies. They were practically beside themselves with joy, quite pleased with the fact that they were here with Aurora in this lovely place. They were slowly starting to fatten up... well, "fatten" was a very liberal term. They were not as emaciated; their bones didn't jut haphazardly through their pelt anymore. They had a bit more flesh on them to cover up the malnutrition that had been so prominent before. In fact, to show their gratitude the wolf had managed to hunt down a few prairie dogs in this new area they found themselves in. One of them the snake had promptly eaten for their weekly meal but the last two, the wolf carried back in their jaws. They were quite proud of their newly developed hunting skills and were eager to show their friend their progress.

While the snake napped on their back, coiled up as usual around the wolf's neck, while the scaled head lay inert on top of the wolf's own, The Whisperer would sniff out where they left Aurora and bring the two prairie dogs there. With the snake asleep, no words were spoken, but the smile on their face and the nudge of the prey closer to the pale wolf it was clear that she was gifting the catch to Aurora.

They would then settled down on their stomach and began grooming themselves, something else they'd picked up from their companion for they knew good hygiene was very important for a healthy wolf. That was what they were aspiring to be without The Pack. Life was not so difficult anymore.

Days recently were spent exploring the beauty of this azure mysticality, the mixture of lilacs and royal blues marrying perfectly in unison here with the elevated trees shading their secrets. Aurora and The Whisperer had found themselves a crescent of a fallen tree, its arms draping over sullenly, creating an alcove for a den. A natural shelter, suffice for the two travellers. Within the mouth of the branches, Aurora had sprawled out, succumbing to her deep slumber, oblivious her companion had ventured off temporarily. Though it wasn't infrequent the duo separated, foraging for one another now that The Whisperer was more than capable to hunt; skills aided by Aurora successfully, instilling confidence in them. It made her heart swell with pride every time the brown duo were triumphant, their heightened senses beyond that of Auroras' capability.
A robe of blues trailed her sleeping figure; butterflies peppered all over her. She’d become accustomed to this, their presence brought her serenity. Their wings languidly yawning open and closed as her deep breaths sighed from her.

And then the swirl of azures fluttered away, stirring Aurora peacefully. Soon coming to realise what was the cause - her friend returning with… food. The belles’ lavender spheres widened in pleasure upon seeing the prey. Breakfast in bed it was!

Her optics glanced over the sleeping serpent, before speaking, ‘Wow, you’re really getting the hang of hunting. Thank you so much!’, her voice was hushed, not wanting to disturb their other half. Grateful for the meal, Auroras maw parted eagerly, canines feasting upon the still warm corpse, with one paw securing it in place. Between the dripping mouthfuls, the belles' vision was cast over to her friend, it hadn’t gone unnoticed how much they’d changed: their figure had obtained more flesh, and their once drab coat was replenished.

Their tail gave a gentle wag at the praise and they stopped in their grooming to cast a proud smile to their companion. From their throat came a happy hum, one that could either be construed as a verbal expression of pleasure or even a "you're welcome" or perhaps both. Afterwards, the copper canine resumed their grooming, taking care to groom out dirt and matts. It not only made them look better, but feel better as well. Silence would settle while they would allow Aurora to eat the prey, so that they could take care in what they were doing with their coat.

It was a while later when they were finally satisfied with the way their coat looked, although at this point, the movements and shifting had caused the snake to awaken and loosen their coils as they slithered along The Whisperer's body. It was as if in one fluid motion the snake moved and The Body would lie on one side with a content sigh. Their tail would wag every once in a while, while their golden eyes, once dull but now filled with some life, were cast upon their companion.

Words were behind those eyes but whether they couldn't talk or wouldn't talk was left to be seen, so the sounds of those soft wolf-snake communications could be heard after the cottonmouth resettled, partially coiled, along their brown flank. "We are happy to be settled in this place.... it is quite beautiful." As if on cue, a blue butterfly fluttered down near the wolf's face. The creature would hover above The Whisperer's nose while the wolf would stay stock still so that they could encourage the creature to land. "Will we be leaving? To go further... east?" And then it landed on the wolf's nose and the timid canine had to fight to keep themselves from shaking their entire body with tail-wags.

The ashen dame took minute bites from the crimson raw flesh of the evenings' prize, taking her time to relish each mouth-watering portion of the delectable treat. Scarlet liquid would drip from her mandible but she'd take devoted care not to stain the rest of her face with its dye. The rodent was a sufficient meal for the imminent nightfall, a budding feeling of fullness building in the hazel-toned wolf, as she completed her banquet.

Delicate teeth encased the feeble carcass, raising herself onto all four lengthy limbs, removing it from their secluded den, wanting to avoid the arrival of other predators from the fumes of its decaying remains.  Trotting daintily but purposely across the purple tapestry beneath her, she'd wondered a distance, disposing of the corpse downwind from them, in an attempt to keep themselves concealed from the undesired visitors. Her spheres traced her surroundings, satisfied where she'd leave the prairie dog and, swiftly, she took no time to return to her companion.

Despite the first contact here, they'd not familiarised themselves with any other individuals in the azure forest thus far. A safety net, of sorts, had enveloped over the pair here in this eerie tranquillity. But Aurora couldn't dismiss her initial emotions when haphazardly discovering the violet woodlands - the sense of welcoming, of uncertain intimacy. In the short days they'd spent here, those uneasy thoughts were chased of any reasons why the dame felt an influential connection to the new abode they'd temporarily claimed, uncertain of what answers she'd find.

Arriving back to her ally, Aurora sentimentally nudged the other in greeting with her muzzle before collapsing her form gracefully alongside them, outside the den. Her ears folding lazily to the side as her soft tongue began combing (if her companion hadn't recoiled) the ombre pelage beneath the others' chin nonchalantly; always a laborious area to clean thoroughly by oneself. When The Whisperer had, evidently, finished her grooming, they sprawled out, and Aurora nestled her head upon their paws, cushioning herself.
Her ears' pricking when the well-known whispers addressed her. A smile spread along her lips as they spoke of the beauty of their current residence; she nodded in agreeance.

'We could perhaps stay here for a while longer? I agree. I've felt quite settled here myself. There's no indication of a pack residing here. Nor suggestions of other wolves present...', trailing off, hoping she hadn't just condemned their undisturbed silence. Her lavender orbs would study both The Body and The Soul, their equally golden spheres, for any opposition to her proposal.

Their winged friends had begun to encroach over their settled bodies. Aurora watched a pair of wings descend upon her friend's nose, watching with amusement as they kept their frame solid, unmoving.

Briefly, the ashen dame left their presence to take one of the prairie dogs away. They idly tracked the other wolf for a brief moment until they returned. They lay alongside the earthen-toned wolf and subconsciously their form would lean towards the champagne canine. They appreciated the other wolf helping to groom them and briefly their eyes would close as the other aided them in that endeavor. It reminded them of better times with The Pack and with Him... Those days were gone but perhaps she would have new days, peaceful and calm, with Aurora. It caused happiness to well up inside them, to imagine that all of the brighter days were ahead. A new life. New joys.

It was after they'd finished and when the butterfly had landed on them that the other would answer their words. The Whisperer's eyes were crossed as they watched the gentle insect as it settled there. They were afraid if they breathed too hard it would scare the lovely creature away but, in the end, it fluttered away on its own accord. They watched it go for a moment before letting out a thoughtful hum. Then, their kind eyes would meet the other's gaze as they gave a nod. There would be no opposition from the quiet canine about their staying here.

"It isss... peaceful. No danger, no angry soulsss." At this the wolf would take a look around, eyes casting this way and that as if they were afraid that they'd jinxed their good luck but no... it seemed safe still. They were not fighters, they couldn't imagine ever being that way. Their venom was for defense, as a last resort. "We are happy to have come here with you."

We are happy to have come here with you.

Without even realising, her luscious heavy train raised and fell repeatedly with happiness. Little did she know, when she encountered the timid brown femme, that they’d still be so united. She was glad they enjoyed her companionship, while they weren’t part of a pack, it seemed almost complete the pair of them.

I admit… I’ve felt a distance connection since we’ve been here’, like an echo on the horizon; out of reach. ‘I’d like to find out why that is. There’s a pull I can’t explain’. Her gaze then became hazed over, as she haphazardly looked out around them. She was uncertain what path she was currently on, hoping she could figure it out with her loyal ally.
Abruptly clouding those thoughts, she turned back to two calm beside her. Lavender spheres scrutinising the pair, as a question loomed over her lips.

You’ve never told me. Your Soul… are you venomous with your bite?’, why hadn’t she asked this question before? The serpent was within striking distance, if it chose to do so, but the trust she had in them was blatant; unshifting as she posed the enquiry. An impish smile crept upon her maw at the curious question.

Their companion spoke about some distant connections and the wolf and serpent shivered. Not out of cold, or even fear, but some sort of anticipation. As if there was something on the breeze, something divine or spiritual that was calling to them through their companion. "Where doesss this pull bid you? Here to this woodland... or beyond?" Or perhaps it was something else? A duty that they must perform. "Do you think there might be something you mussst do?" The copper canine canted their head gently to the right, the gesture questioning as they would wait further elaboration on the topic.

The next question caught them completely off guard? Venomous? The wolf nodded their head in reply moments before the snake answered. "Yesss... Our venom is quite potent." They knew of other snakes without poison in their fangs but the large serpent was able to inject copious amounts of venom into prey if they so chose. "However, we have never struck another wolf. Only prey when aiding The Pack in a hunt of large game." It was probably abundantly clear that their mode of defense was flight. The Body and The Soul were not fighters, they would escape if the opportunity was presented to them. Although, if it came down to it and it was either the death of them --or Aurora-- or a bite to deter an attacker then they would choose the bite. "We have never seen our venom kill... it causesss... suffering." Here the wolf winced as she thought of the prey that would clearly be in large amounts of pain before the others brought the creature down. They didn't like suffering and would not intentionally cause others to go through large amounts of it.

"Why do you asssk?" Were they just curious? Or was there something else behind those eyes?

As the sun bid farewell on its daily course, its nearing end undeniable as its rays dimmed their lighting; the crescent moon had already begun its ascent. The behemoth luminous forms nearly unmissable as they replaced one another. The brightness maintained throughout the woodland, as the moon's reflection would illuminate the blues and violets in a fluorescent lighting. A vision blossoming before them once again, but with the morphos butterfly absent. Some had settled upon Aurora, as she kept quiet and still.
There were now different shadows amongst them, an ombre light cascading on each trunk of the gargantuan trees here. And also on each other. The mixture of dusks’ light and nightfalls darkness was draped over her companions' outlines, Auroras eyes fixated onto them as they posed some questions.

Not beyond… but definitely here in these woodlands. I feel at home here', her head tilted, motioning clockwise as she indicated their surroundings. Then came the second question.
I’m a natural healer’, she smiled, ‘I’ve noticed there’s an array of herbs and flowers here that have potential to serve us, and maybe others that require healingand maybe some other purposes, she elaborated to herself, but didn’t want to test those waters yet with her friend. ‘I would like to venture its boundaries to see if they’re any fruits here’. They hadn’t yet extended their trips beyond the location they were currently residing in. Maybe on the outskirts of the woodlands where the shrubs and trees basked in the sunlight, this would be where some fruit could be found?

Auroras own query was answered hesitantly, she took note of this. But she was somewhat intrigued by their answer, unsure of how to deal with the newfound information.
It may come in handy one day’, she hoped this would satisfy their own question. She watched them with a quizzical countenance. ‘Have you ever expressed the venom for other purposes?’, if they’d originated from such an eccentric pack, she wondered if they used such things as concoctions of venom and herbs.

Home. Would this be home then? The Whisperer could not deny that this would be a beautiful place to make their own. "Will we make this our home?" They asked, eyes expectant as they watched their lovely friend. Images danced before their eyes and in their gaze was something hopeful. They had seen their friend offer to aid others. Such a wonderful talent, one so needed in the world. "Aurora... would you teach usss... the healing arts?" They would want to help others, not harm them. It seemed like a most amazing dream to settle here and offer aid where they could to those that were weary. "Will we help those that are lost? That are... in pain?" Their hearts were gentle, they were kind. They were in complete sync with their wonderful friend.

Then the subject of venom. It might come in handy? They were clearly confused by this revelation, unsure of how venom could be useful beyond its intent to harm. "Other... purposesss? Pray, how do you mean?" They leaned forward slightly, expectant for a reply. They didn't understand where they were coming from... unless. "Like... in healing?" And if so, how could something that was so expressly toxic be useful? Their previous pack was an interesting sort but simple in their own right. Not exactly expressing new ideals while The Whisperer always had an open mind. It was what caused them to fall so madly in love with their late mate, it was what caused them to be expelled and exiled.

Exile... it was such a terrifying word full of bleakness.

There hadn’t been a period that could be recounted when Aurora wasn’t benevolent. At this moment though, memories were hard to decrypt, but she didn’t battle against this. She wasn’t going to dwell on her past, or what was, where she came from. Her interest was now, where she heading. Though after their first encounter here in these mesmerising woodlands, the elegant lady did wonder if she could fuse any flora to aid those suffering with memory loss.
The Whisperer asked if they were to make their current abode more permanent. A glowing smile parted her lips, hopeful her companion was just as eager, ‘Yes. We can gather some more branches and prop them over this unfortunate dead tree’, her head twisted as she glanced behind her over the fallen tree, where its broken arms formed a perfect archway for a secluded den. It needed reinforcing against the cooler and wetter elements, if it was to become their little home.

When the brown femme posed another question, Aurora turned back to them, addressing them unhesitatingly, ‘I hoped you’d ask, I’d be more than happy to. We certainly shall help others, if they venture our way or pass through these woodlands’, her thick tail bounced animatedly, excited by the prospect. There was a variety of species of vegetation here she was keen to discover. ‘At dawn, we shall go in search for a few comfrey flowers, we can start there’, a lesson in first aid was probably the beginning baby step to teach. ‘This flower has the ability to assist with healing grazes and cuts’.

When the conversation swayed to the venom, her smile disappeared, forming a grim line along her maw. She wasn’t too familiar with the depths of venom, but knowing it could cause pain and suffering could be their only leverage against ruthless wolves in these parts. ‘I’m not one for battle at all. But it could perhaps be used to our advantage when in need of defence’. It might also prove to be useful in other remedies, its potency unexplored and she was curious to unveil this.

The Whisperer's gaze turned towards the specific tree that their companion mentioned. They could see how it would make a lovely den for them both. It was a large, secluded thing that would be perfect after a bit of TLC. They idly wondered how the great behemoth had been felled ut that was a question they were likely to never find the answer to. Their tail thumped the ground lightly, happy at the thought of a permanent home.

"It would be a great thing... to help thossse who are lost or injured." They agreed with their companion, pleased that their ideals aligned so neatly. Even more fantastic that they would be taught how to heal. There was such gratitude in their eyes, the snake and the wolf, when Aurora said that they would help them to learn. They could have something good here, something amazing where they could help others. It filled them with excitement. The first bit of lesson fed to them, they absorbed it. "Comfrey." They committed it to memory. Both The Body and The Soul giving a nod to show understanding. Later on, they would go to find this helpful plant.

While they spoke of one aspect of their lives here, there was the other unfortunate aspect about less-than-savory wolves... Yes, they supposed if they lived here then running away wouldn't be a viable option. Unlike The Pack, they did not have numbers on their side to see away threats. Instead they would have to utilize other aspects to keep themselves safe, like this idea that Aurora was proposing. "Our venom is your venom." They said but after a pause, The Body tilted their head to the side. A small hum was emitted as they spoke their language to The Soul. Moments later, the snake would pose a question. "But how will our venom be used by you? It is within our fangs... it cannot be taken elsewhere unlessss one is bitten..." Were they proposing to bite those that would threaten them? To try to bite the tinctures or poultices that were made? These were such new ideas that they were at a loss.

There was a sudden flush of solace within Aurora, reminiscent of a peaceful aura robing her. She’d set off months ago in search of something, and she believed in this very moment she had found it, her new friend had helped convey their path. A new home, a new beginning for the duo.

She saw the mixture of emotions, of excitement within the serpent and its body. It warmed her heart knowing they were just as avid to aid others. It would seem they too were natural healers, but perhaps Aurora just needed to unveil that hidden ability of theirs. She nodded, agreeing to their statement. And smiled shortly afterwards as they echoed the name of their first morning chore, ‘It won’t be easy, as its flowers are a vibrant violet’, in other words, it would be like searching for a needle in a haystack within the purple and blue woodlands, ‘but it will be worth it when we do find it’. She reassured. If they failed to locate some within their first search, she was quite certain they would eventually succeed; the woodlands provided the perfect growing ambient for it.

When The Whisperer offered so specially their own poison, she was grateful. ‘That’s so very kind of you!', her plush tail replicated her enthusiasm, wagging elegantly at her side.

It won’t always help us, but I’m sure even the most volatile of wolves wouldn’t reject a free meal’, after all, what other reason would they attack the benevolent pair? ‘We will filtrate the venom within a carcass. One of two hares could be stashed nearby, and only a few droplets of the poison inside should do the trick’, and by trick, she meant either suffer immeasurably or perhaps even death if the opposing wolves weren’t as strong as they portrayed to be.

A violet flower amongst the sea of purple... a challenging chore to say the least. "Isss there a particular smell that this flower posessses? We are adept... at using our sense of smell." Perhaps such a thing would let them find this plant easier, rather than relying solely on the sight when it could be exceedingly difficult in this case. Although, it mattered not. The Whisperer was prepared to search for as long as it took to find this flower. They figured it as a sort of test and would gladly work their hardest at it.

The Whisperer didn't follow at first. A free meal? Why would they offer... and then it clicked right before Aurora explained the rest of their plan. Poison in the meal. "Deception..." The snake whispered out as they looked at their friend. Deceive those that would harm them. It was fighting back without the use of claw and fang. They shivered as they thought of trying to trick a wolf into eating a piece of prey for the explicit purpose of killing them or making them suffer. "We have never tried to kill a wolf before..." Never had, never thought that they would need to... but... "This new world brings new thingsss..."

Their eyes had seemed to be lost, zoned out as they thought these things over. "We must... adapt... to survive." Then, they focused back in on Aurora. "Would we test... to sssee if the venom works when ingested?" They'd never seen it done that way, only be causing it to filter into the blood via a bite. "What if eating it dilutesss it?" Maybe they should try other tests too to see if it would properly work and if they'd be forced to use other things.

Behind those long lashes, Aurora's lavender eyes caught sight of another butterfly landing on her hind, she counted idly each pair of azure wings dotted along her, getting so far when the close whispers of the serpent grasped her attention, they’d asked to describe the scent of the leaf and flower they were to look for at dawn.

Their scent is subtle, but could be mistaken for hints of freshly fallen raindrops’. She admired their determination already, remembering her own inquisitiveness when learning the ways to heal. ‘Their leaf is quite long and furry’, Aurora added, but there was not much else she could say to describe the flower. Once they did happen upon it the next day, she was sure her companion would so easily commit it to memory just as she had.

As the sun finally dipped beyond the trees in the horizon and the darkness had consumed the pair entirely, the conversation had swayed towards darkness too. She shivered slightly as she was not one to scrutinise ways to injure or harm others. But felt she needed to elaborate just slightly to terminate this unappealing topic.

I plan to leave something small but sharp within the carcass, enough to pierce the lips, mouth or throat of the intruder and this would be enough for the venom to work its potency’, the elegant femme hadn’t raised this initially, worried her friend would get the wrong impression of her, she was a healer after all, but it's true she was no warrior, this was her only solution for now to protect themselves. ‘But let’s hope that we will never need the venom for such matters’, she said quickly, hopeful. She had intended to explore other avenues for the venom though, optimistic it could be infused for better purposes. This would be for another day.

Aurora wasn’t really a miss doom and gloom, so she reached over to nudge her friend affectionately, a follow up to her words, encouraging them not to worry too much. She felt positive here; safe. With those thoughts of home now rousing her mind, the balletic female gracefully rose, a smile played on her lips. ‘Now, are you feeling strong? We have some heavy lifting to do. Shall we look for some branches for our new home?

They listened, committing to memory the things that Aurora said. It smelled faintly of raindrops and had a long furry leaf. Okay, that helped a bit so that they wouldn't be completely blindsided if they saw the plant. The snake's tongue flickered out, tasting the air and they thought they could faintly sense the smell of water. Or was that just rain from above? They couldn't really be sure until they went out to actually try to find said plant, whenever that would be. Likely soon as the air around them was growing ever darker with the rising of the moon and the turning of the night.

While the butterflies draped across their friend's form, they went on into detail about the plan. Something sharp in the carcass to inflict wounds upon a would-be assailant's mouth. That would open up the body to the attack of venom. They could think of plenty of things that could be slipped inconspicuously into a carcass. Were they bad for thinking that way? They didn't think that Aurora was bad at all... they were planning for the future and it was good to do that. "Let usss hope..." They agreed. Although one never knew when the Fates would challenge them. The Whisperer felt that one day it would come to pass that they would need to utilize this plan... but they could hope for the best.

They were jarred from their pessimistic thoughts by the gentle nudge of their friend. The wolf's tail would gently pat the ground in a wag as they smiled at Aurora. They were comforted by their gesture and presence and felt that as long as they were together, things would be alright. With those thoughts put to the back of their mind, they rose to their paws, tail still wagging very gently. The snake didn't speak a reply and instead, the wolf gave a nod of their head. Yes, they could go out and search for things to spruce up their new home. How exciting it all was!
