Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

As they parted ways, she watched @Rosencrantz chase after the mysterious women with an approving nod. She didn't feel it was right to leave someone alone like so, and since the two had history.. It felt appropriate. Though heartache, as the woman had shown such a heartbroken expression toward the paladin, but he remained with a look of confusion and frustration.

Miriam couldn't help the curiosity ; while not desiring to be a nosey woman, her mind couldn't help but wonder when she was told to wait at their 'base' of sorts. She was just that though, patience as she laid within the flower feed, mind running a thousand miles.. But too afraid to ask them.

Hours had passed after he had followed Annika to clear up whatever was between them. They talked for a long time as she wanted to speak with him alone, so he granted her wish. After a while they parted ways, better off than what they had started with and the paladin slowly made his way back to camp where he had told Miriam to wait for him to return.

Half expecting for Miriam to be wandering away elsewhere, causing more trouble for him to clean up - he breathed a soft sigh of relief seeing her waiting there as instructed. Silently he walked up to Miriam, taking a seat at her side with a new gentle sigh as if he had been overworked with everything that had just transpired. His posture fell just slightly as he made sure to be comfortable before turning his attention to the silver agouti woman.

“Are you alright?” She didn't seem injured at least...

A smile rested upon her face as the white wolf returned - though she couldn't deny a part of her was hoping Annika would come as well. The thought of their little moving group had warmed her so, and the idea of it growing only lit a desire within. She hadn't had a happy time upon leaving the Orchid, though she enjoyed her time with Guilden and Rosen, the thought of more familial friends to join.. She wished for it to be true, but couldn't push.

Miriam tilted her head to the side in confusion, "yes?" she wasn't sure why he was asking why was she. She wasn't the one touching with an acquaintance of the past, and thus threw the question back, "are you?"

Single golden eye washing over Miriam as he waited for her answer. Though after speaking with Annika he was certain she wouldn't have laid a paw on the smokey woman - a part of him still believed she had managed to get herself injured somehow during their time apart. Pleased with both her answer and what he couldn't see, his gaze moved back up to her moonlight hues.

“Yes.” He sighed. His mind still turning back to what he had learned from Annika, of both her and of himself. “Long talk, learned a lot.” He couldn't even bring himself to look at Miriam in the eye after what he had heard. Was he truly that kind of piece of shit to abandon someone like Annika in a life prior to this, to leave her to a fate so cruel after adding to her pile of shit with his own stink?

Maybe he was more like his father than he realized after all.

She moved to sit next beside the white man, her paw patting onto the ground on asking to join her so. There was hesitation, as Miriam's moonlit eyes slowly wandered to the ground to his feet, and finally to his face. She surely had a lot to ask of him, as just the other woman did in her spur of anger, "Do you remember her? She seems important," but, the answers she wanted would not be ask. What had they talked about? So personal that it wasn't right to push towards, and only a tad, would she nudge, but no more.

Her tail curled to the side, behind her paws as she asked a bit nervously, but tried with a touch of warmth as a smile fitted through.

Urging for him to sit next to her, he only half accepted the offer and lazily sat in his own little distance away. She was poise and grace, even now as she elegantly sat there while he - a lumbering man with no real care in how he carried himself just sat while tossing his tail wherever felt comfortable.

“I don't.” It felt flat to say, the words bitter and uncomfortable on his tongue as he wanted to remember. So close and yet so far away and out of his reach - uncertain if he could ever be able to grab it with his maw and hold it tightly, swallow it even and remember it all. “I did awful things in a previous life apparently.”

One he wondered if @Guildenstern was still willing to do. Incapable of moving on from the way they were brought up - especially with how willing he was to toss Miriam to some strange bitch they met not long after exiting the misty woods.

"We all have our fair share of shames.." Though he may not remember, and she couldn't imagine what he had done ; Miriam couldn't judge. Her faiths ground is on the pinnacle of renewal, of everyone deserving a new beginning. There was only a very few she now determined who did not deserve that chance, but Rosen was not. She found him a kind, but stoic and hardy, though regardless he stayed with her and protected. She did not believe he was always terrible, and now anew, he was light.

She held her own regrets, "a new life, a new beginning. Does she hold contempt toward you for it?"

Forgiveness was to be earned, but she would hope as Annika was a lovely woman, she wouldn't hold onto that hatred. Forgiving oneself, and to the eventual paladin.

"A fair share" she said, and he was certain he had enough to last them both a lifetime and some. All he had to do was remember any of it at all to prove so - and yet he couldn't remember much at all after the birthpack. It was all muddled and strange as if there was a crossroad and he lived in both at the same time.

“I don't believe she does.” At least not from their last little interaction. It seemed all was well between them now that the air was cleared. Now that they were both willing to just move on and maybe start over anew, a fresh clean slate with only a few stains to muddy the path.

Not believing Annika would appreciate him telling Miriam everything they spoke about, he opted to change the subject for now. Perhaps if they crossed paths again another day, Annika would feel comfortable enough to tell Miriam herself. “It's late, when we see her again you can ask her for her side of it all.” Was his way of saying he wasn't going to lie, but not spill Annika's secrets without her consent.

As he did not share, she could not press. Though she did respect him for that, even though the secrets they held were between the two, he refrained from speaking. As Miriam has only held a high opinion to him, she had thought it was out of respect for Annika. She was so distraught over seeing him, it was clear something terrible had happened. Though she was glad at least, it sounded like perhaps he was forgiven in a slight way, even if not at all. The Goddess would praise the strong woman for finding it in her heart, and the God would grace her with his strength to move forward.

"May the Goddess praise both of you." Even if he wasn't religious nor' as the other, she felt as a maiden from the homeland, to at least give the blessing in the priest's place. She could hold a silence, a muttering of prayers to the stars above, a thankful mutter of meeting them both.

It has been a good life.
