Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

As rain clouds formed from above, Orlaith skulked down the mountain in a great hunger. She felt like a beast, desiring something grand then a small rabbit from the cache - something to be proud off, parade around! Thankfully though, Ullarcraig was always full of marvelous hunts, as lush as it was, and especially near the mountains, it brought plentiful prey. A true paradise.. Especially with honey.

Covering her scent now, the fireclad woman held a wicked smile venturing down. She was impatient, she wanted it now. Orlaith thought she held the greatest advantage since they would struggle to smell her, and she could blend in with the mud. Her mind did forget the slippery that formed when it rained, but she cared not, when her chops were licked over by the sight of a mountain goat.

Ukko moved in the only direction he thought he might know. To the north were mountains. By the silhouette alone, he had no more answers than before, but at the very least he would be in territory he could navigate with relative ease. He didn’t necessarily want to find home, though, but there was something nagging at him like an itch in the back of his mind that simply won’t let it go.

He wanted the option of home. Perhaps his father had changed his mind and finally saw it his was.

Ukko laughed at the thought. Heartily. He’d paid so little attention to his surroundings that the impending storm was lost on him. The mountain goat above him, also lost, and by default, so was Orlaith. The laugh bellowed in the steeps above and though Ukko threw his head back dramatically, he didn’t see how startled the mountain goat was of the sound.

Her face fell. A laugh seemed to echo in the shadows of Craig, running through the course near the mountains and of course, as the goat started by such a noise, immediately bounded away from her. Wolf-like in sound that it was, her tail bristled in annoyance of the most perfect chance, but in course, someone ruined it. Someone, not Vanderfell though. Someone within their hunting grounds, that not only trespassed, by as well as made her prey flee. She of course, could always go and chase the started goat, but that wouldn't exactly relinquish the contempt she held for whoever did.

"Fucker."

Head thrown high and fur on the neck bristled, paws storming downwards in a rage as a snarl curled to her face. A forest eye, like a blazing wildfire was now staring dead in the direction toward the wretched being that did so. Foe or ally, she wanted some sort of price to gain.

It was too little, too late when Ukko realized he’d startled the goat. It made a sound and shimmied against rock and he lifted his large, black head in the direction. His stomach churned, reminding him of his hunger, but the creature was far more aware of his presence now and it was too late to do anything about it now.

After a beat, he heard thundering paws descending and Ukko whipped his head ‘round back to see the large form headed toward him. He wasn’t given time to piece together the sequence of consequences he accrued; instead, he shifted his stance and flashed his teeth back behind curled lips. Fur bristled from the base of his neck to the tip of his tail and he hunkered his front end down against stone should the stranger present battle.

"You're in Vanderfell territory." She gave one, and only warning. Orlaith hissed down the slope to greet the black-slated man, who greeted her with a flash of his own fangs. She growled deeply at him, her body motioning closer to reach to a flat-land as it hovered closely to the ground. Her tail lashed behind in anger before curling below to hide any points, and snapped toward him. A warning flash as she continued to growl at the man.

Though as much as she would simply enjoy but a fight, in her gracious heart was she allowing the one chance for him to leave. Though despite such thoughts, she stepped closer, an intention to strike if he did not take the chance to leave.

You’re in Vanderfell territory.

Ukko’s ears plastered back and he narrowed his eyes. His teeth did not relax but he shifted just slightly, still bristled, and held from any defensive motion. Instead, he started to back pedal away from the other canine.

He hadn’t seen anyone since Khryseis but there was a whole new set of information he hardly had time to process. Territory meant more and this wolf was huge. Ukko was a large wolf but he couldn’t deny the impending feeling of extra muscle and strength coming down on him. “All right, all right,” he mumbled, his tail drooped low. “I didn’t notice, this place has kinda fucked with me more than I thought. Maybe it broke my nose.” Orange eyes held steady but his paws were light, slowly retreating and tense to sprint should he need.

Orlaith was a rather petty wolf. When she was casted out from her homeland, she spat at the people and pledged to another quickly. Though them too, when not given the crown she thought she deserved, she left them, and cursed their name. All the point that upon hearing them being separated, she laughed at a wolf who lost their home, and celebrated over the fact. Long ago as well she refused to accept a man who did not bow to her, and fought him down with others - as the rightful lead guard. The first to chase him out.. All those memories though, were now faded. She couldn't say to remember any of them, and only vaguely knows the last one. Memories were disappearing, and Orlaith, didn't notice.

Behavior though never changed, and a man who challenged her on her packlands would have no forgiveness. Her growl deepened, "Leave," and stepped closer, preparing herself for an attack.
