Crackling.

Lightning strikes down on a nearby bed of flowers, causing the resting herd to move, alarmed. The plants and grasses in the spot are completely obliterated; would have been charred into nothing if residue from the lightning was leftover. Within the circular shape, a mismatched form lay. He lies there, breaths coming in even, long bursts. Clearly sleeping. The dampness of the fog is what makes him wake, head rising, rack fully on display. One red, one blue, they open with a calmness someone waking to a strange place should not have.

The prince stands.

He forces his slightly shaking legs to calm down - he must keep his princely looks. A prince never falters. The fog prevents him from truly seeing everything around himself, but he does notice the herd calming, completely ignoring him now. Elk, not deer, he notes. Not his herd, they won't know him for his rank within his homelands. Not that Rajah would speak to them, not yet at least. When the prince finally steadies, his fluffy tail flicks behind him. There doesn't seem to be any danger, not from smells, or sight; even with the fog obscuring most of his vision.

The prince decides sticking with this herd for now would be the better choice - at least until the fog lets up and he gets a good look at everything.

A lightning strike, terrifyingly close and arcing out of the thick fog that had rolled over the meadow, had the doe launching herself into the air with fright.

The rest of the herd spooked, too, circling close to one another to protect their own. The small doe had to rear onto her hind legs a couple times to even catch a fuzzy glimpse of what had happened through the mists and the milling bodies of her herd.

Ears flicked forward after a moment and things seemed to calm yet again, and she spotted movement-Which had Vivian stiffening with alarm, until she caught a glimpse of antler tines cutting through the fog.

She stepped closer, ears canting forward and tilting her head a bit as the shape of a buck took form from the fog. She halted a good several feet away, but said nothing, tail lifted in alarm and feet gathered beneath her to bolt lest the lightning-buck be dangerous.

It isn't long before Rajah's nose lets him know not everyone is an elk here. There's a distinct scent of wolf and another whitetail. The prince doesn't fear the wolf scent, nor the other whitetail. It lets him know that there's at least one other out here somewhere, but with the elk all over it's hard for him to tell the exact location on scent alone. Eventually, his eyes catch on a Doe, tail raised and alert - saying there's danger nearby. The prince sees no danger, nor does he hear or smell it. Is it the lingering scent of wolf? Surely not - Even if the scent is not stale, none of them were in the direct area around the herd. If anything, the doe with her tail raised smelled more like wolf than the land itself, that much should have been worrying. Rajah did not find it as worrying as he should.

"Miss." he voices in both of their's native tongue. "There is no danger here."

He doesn't even realize that she was being attentive because of him. Still, though, he is right in saying there is no danger.

The buck spoke, as Vivian's gaze trailed over the impressive rack crowning his skull.

Antlered, thus holier than she, though the white cutting across half his body damned him. She didn't know enough, to know if the antlers, or the white, would win out. Perhaps hypocritical, like herself, but acceptable.

He spoke, assured her there was no danger. Vivian didn't relax or move, but did lower her tail.

"Greetings, newcomer." She murmured in the same language. "Are you...alright?"

 She arrived mid-step.

Hooves hitting the ground silently, she surveyed her surroundings, breath held in calm still. This world was different. The fog she had left and this fog were different. This herd nearby, who had barely lifted their eyes to her, was different. They were not the herd of her youth, not the people she called her own.

But her prince was the same. She saw him, in the distance, his brilliant white contrasted with black. Exhaling a sigh of relief that swept away her growing nerves, she stepped towards him, leaving the coil of her past behind her as she made her way to him -

 - and saw him with another doe.

This was nothing new, nothing strange. He could do what he wanted, but this doe was a stranger and so Roe watched her with unreadable eyes, light steps bringing her towards them and besides her Prince. Light eyes on dark face stared at the strange doe, her own tail flicking up at the scent of wolf upon the land. Still, her Prince was here and so she was safe.

The prince didn't think about any implications his princess would have of him speaking to another Doe. In reality, it wasn't uncommon for him to do such things. He didn't realize she was around until her hoofsteps became clear when she approached. Still, he was confused and a little bit surprised when the stranger asked if he was fine. Why would he not be? Rajah felt no different than before - disoriented and confused, sure, but that would come with waking in an area one didn't know. Being without his herd was... Not a good feeling, but it did stop the eyes from being on him every time he spoke with someone. With those that weren't Roe, anyway.

"I am well." He returns.

The prince wasn't aware of the lightning scare, nor of the circle against the grass and flowers he left behind. His attentions were on the scent of wolf, and the two does here - he was more curious of the stranger. Why she was around the wolves, not that he was scared.

"Princess." He greets. It wasn't uncommon for deer of his herd to choose to name others with their titles rather than their names, but Rajah always used actual names. He had a title, as did his doe, but he did not name them. The stranger would not get to know such an important name, not while he didn't trust her fully. The doe wouldn't get to know Roe's actual name, either - not unless it was deemed important or Roe told the doe herself.

One a particular day, the Queen took an excursion outside of the Elkshire claims, wandering further until a storm had hit. She had taken refuge in a cave while it passed, and after some time, eventually returned. Albeit a bit damn, and it seemed like a fog had covered the mystical land of deer-worshippers.. Though unknowingly an omen had occurred, as the smell of elk was high in the air - not unusual, but Vivian in particular was within the trail.

Out of curiosity followed so, wondering where the strays of the herd would wonder so.. Though the Queen of Elkshire, her eyes vividly curved downward in a snakeish glare as she looked to the scene before her. Memories flashed of the day before she came to canis ; her brother and self being stabbed by a white elk, and falling forth. Into the darkness did the siblings go, but only one emerged back into the light. The gut-wretching realization of what Célnes lost still hurt.. And now before her stands an unholy abomination.

Split into what was warned most about the elders; the cursed white, and the forbidden black. One was to be hunted on sight and turned away, the other was to be avoided. So they say, but the reasoning behind black marking were still a mystery altogether. Célnes did not believe what has not been fully told, and her opinion did not extent the racism to that color. Though but white? A well-known fact, the Queen dislikes.

Though as ugly as he may be he sported the apostle's most important factor; the antlers. Even then, a Deorwine was always told to hunt on site. But a chimera such as him was such a mystery, and even moreso seemed to have a perfectly regular one in the background. Célnes stood in the back, an eye to all, and making no attempts to hide herself. Though she didn't approach.

An inaudible whisper, "Wretched."

Yet another deer revealed themselves, this one a proper brownish color rather than half-white like the buck. She knew Celnes wouldn't like the white markings, but she had let the few beige-y ones Viv herself possessed slide. Perhaps she would let this slide. Vervain didn't think she wanted to take that chance, lest the pack of wolves she resided in be ordered to turn on her.

Princess, the buck calls the doe, and Vervain doesn't react, not outwardly. Inwardly, there is a twist of annoyance, jealousy.

She'd been a Princess, once, too, but how quickly things change.

The other doe's tail was up, but Vivian didn't further change her own body language. The alarm had been for the lightning strike, the newcomers, not for any danger that continued to loom. "I am glad to see you unharmed. That lightning was a bit startling." To say the least. "You stand in territory guarded-and hunted-by the Elkshire pack. What brings you to our borders?"

“My Prince,” she breathed to the man, feeling a calm rush over her at his attention. Whether he spared this doe his time or not, he was hers and she was his - and the kingdom was theirs.

And yet, this was not their kingdom.

If it weren't for the movement of the wolf against the leaves and grasses, she might have missed her at first. Perhaps that was why, unbeknownst to her, these wolves preferred their coats of dirt - so they could observe the deer around them without causing fear. Perhaps the deer here were used to the wolves of brown and somehow did not notice them when they stood bare and revealed.

Nevertheless, Roe did see the woman and she stamped a hoof against the soil, eyes spanning past the other doe and to the wolf, who watched them. She did not hear the word from her mouth - of course - but instinctual fear bit at her heart and she watched the wolf, wishing for the entire herd to run and flee. But this was not their herd, these deer who lived here seemed fine with the wolf. She knew her Prince could protect her but the fear sat in her heart, a bothersome thorn that she would have to ignore for now.

The doe spoke to her Prince further and she listened passively, eyes still on the distant wolf.

“One of your Elkshire-hunters watches us,” she pointed out carefully, eyes spanning the area around the wolf to ensure that no others were near, hiding in the bushes as their brown colleague distracted them. Her Prince would have to explain why they were here and about the lightning, as Roe knew nothing of that. She had also never heard of Elkshire, nor of deer who would purposefully stay within land owned by wolves, knowing the pack was so near.
