Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Valette had wandered from the floral plains, to the south this time. Her trip to the forest by the mountains, and missing a meal because of this random guy, had left quite the mark on her life. Since the dark male was keen on not to let her go. He was certain she was his mate. Which was silly because she never had a mate. She had a sister she remembered, Nanook. She was only passed her second birthday and felt that if she met someone so significant she would remember them.

The female made sure to explore the area around the floral field. She let Nanook do the same. Then they could find a good lay of the land, perhaps even a pack they could settle. The female continued after she trotted through the river of the plains. She moved further south, hoping that she might got a little break from the weirdo that was following her. The female scanned the horizon looking for landmarks she recognized. Honestly, she didn't expect to find any. She had been here for a while now and had not recognized anything.

But then, on the horizon something caught her eye. With a new found determination she moved towards it. As she got closer she noticed that they were rocks, strange rocks. Valette's heart started to beat faster. She upper her tempo as she rushed to it. She slowed down into a trot as she came closer, stopping in the middle of the stone circle. The evening light hitting the rocks, making them look warm and inviting. The female was breathless, not from running but... the stones! She remembered such stones! She turned around her hind, trying to take in all the stones at once, trying to remember more.

She felt like this should be home, but it didn't feel like a home. Just some rocky circle on a plain. Her memory was different. Maybe it had just been a dream. But it still left her baffled if she remembered this place or not.

^^ Steady may have been out of sight for a while, but he never really left Valette, at least not her trail. He gave her the distance that she seemed to need, but he could not leave entirely. Every bone, every muscle, every cell in his body wanted to be as close to her as possible. But, he realized that, right now, she didn't want that. So, he tried to settle for something in the middle. He went hunting, intent on catching something for Valette, as if that would set everything right from when he scared off her intended prey.

It was hard to hunt in such a specific area. He followed her trail to make sure it stayed fresh, and tried to hunt alongside it. But, prey didn't tend to stick around where the scent of wolves were strongest. But, his persistence paid off, and he caught a rather large hare. It hung limp in his jaws as he trotted along, not wasting time to find Valette in his sights again.

When she came into view, she was surrounded by boulders, odd to him considering most of the time they were horizontal, not vertical. He stopped his forward pursuit and simply watched her. Flashes of muddled memories tried to come forth, but Steady quickly shook them off. It no longer mattered to him what happened before he woke up. What mattered was Valette.

He started to walk towards her, calmly now that he could watch her. On the outskirts of the circle of stones, he dropped the hare at his paws, and chuffed to her. I know you don't need me hunting for you, but I felt bad for having interrupted your hunt earlier, and I'd like to make up for it, he explained. He watched her carefully to gauge her reaction.

Valette's ears instantly flattened when she saw the large dark male in her sight of vision. She clearly didn't want to see him as badly as he did her. She noticed a meal fall from his maw. It made her turned head move towards him. Of course the male would do anything to gain her favor it seemed. "I hope you choke on it," she returned to him coolly. Perhaps she didn't mean that, but right now she didn't really feel like thanking him for being so kind. The male wasn't leaving her alone, always hovering in the background. She wondered what Nanook would make of him really. She hadn't seen her sister after they split up to explore the lands around them. She hoped she was alright.

She turned back to the stones, looking at them. She stepped closer to the widest stone. It somehow... She stopped once she got close to it she got an uneasy feeling. What if the stone would fall over on top of her? Then she would most certainly be gone for good. She cautiously stepped back. She remembered these weird stones, but she didn't know why. She didn't know how. Or what happened here. Her sister and her had woken up not too far from here. There were no scents that she remembered, frankly there seemed to not have been a wolf here for awhile. She got out of the stone circle, but somehow she couldn't place why she felt drawn to it. Her eyes kept going back at it, to study the shapes of the different vertical stones.

I feel so bad hahahaha

^^ Steady wasn't dumb. He knew his presence wasn't welcomed by Val, no matter what he felt for her. She didn't remember him. But the words that flew out of her mouth so easily shocked him to the core. Deep down, he knew he had never been talked to like that from her, and the inward pain he felt was worse than if she had just flat out attacked him. The shock of it echoed on his expression, as he wasn't able to hide it.

He was stunned into silence, and it took him a few moments to even notice that she had turned and completely dismissed him. He had once loved Valette with his entire being, he felt that. But the woman before him was not someone he knew. She wouldn't have spoken to him like that, no matter the circumstance. Whoever had woken up in her place, the Valette that he loved was not here.

He briefly thought about fighting for their love. But, what would that mean? Taking this kind of abuse? Steady was a proudful wolf, a protective one, and he'd lay down his life for her without a thought to it. But, he would not stand here and take this. He didn't deserve this, and he knew it.

Steady would always love Valette, that would never change. But he respected himself more than to let this continue. His heart beat heavily in his chest as he looked at her admiring the stones. He didn't utter a single sound before he turned to disappear.

It seemed her reaction had not been taken well. She had not meant to be nice to him. Valette had enough to worry about than to have a male chase after her proclaiming he was her mate. It felt stupid. She was far too young to even had a mate. She felt young, a young adult yes... But... When she glanced to his side again, where he had stood frozen before, now the male had vanished. Valette curiously stepped aside and watched a dark spot in the distance. Well, it seemed he go the message. She finally had some rest from his constant hovering.

The female continued to study the stones. Somehow she felt that she knew about Stones like these but these weren't the ones she called home before. She was petty much certain of that. Stones did mean home, but here there was no sign of it. She would have to report it to Nanook. Maybe she would remember. Hopefully her sister hadn't wandered too far.
