Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

There was still plenty of the forest that Célnes hasn't discovered, and didn't know. Through weaving between the pines, evergreens, maples and oaks, the birches and like, one can easily get lost, making it hard to find a particular path through so. It was important to pay close attention to the ground, for at one point in the midst of it all one could find the Herd. The biggest marker to know where one is, but otherwise, majority of wolves were on there own. An occasional stream and small waterfall would pass by, but unless an eye can breach through the forest trees like a hawk, it was hard to tell.

Near the out entrance though it was easy to see, an area that faced the river, the plains, and even the mountains. There was not only a lot to discover around, but to claim. The Queen was greedy, she did not like the idea of neighbors being too closely to their central, especially finding there is an enemy of the Night Walkers, roaming though the mountains. But alas, did not have the wolfpower to do so.

Another day of charting, making point of landmarks that were important to know. At point even she would get lost, but would never admit. The only truth to find her way around were the streams, and the Elk to follow. However it an unusual stone array was coming to fruit, as the pathway was no more of the dirty ground or the high grass that overtook, rather, hard, hard stone. Flat, like nature itself carved to perfect, something that she could walk with ease.

Following further was but a path to the stairway to heaven - but it reached a point. Like a broken way to the sky itself, and she, ontop of the stairs.

After joining the group, Florence wasn't sure what to think. The whole thing with the deer made some sense, he wasn't going to mention anything about that one. If anything, it would just keep less wolves from meeting their deaths trying to fight a buck when they were too dangerous with their horns. Or keep the herd's numbers from falling too low. Still, there was something up and he wanted to know what it was. Not that it was bad entirely. Florence just wanted to learn more. He supposed he should look for the other members and actually meet them, but he found himself following the trail of their queen instead. Her scent was a vaguely familiar one amongst the many different types of trees the forest held.

Sometimes Florence would brush up on a particular tree or large rock to leave his scent there. A marker to know where to turn back when he wanted to go where he began. It also would track the pack's scent through the place more to stake their claim. So two birds with one stone, in his humble opinion. Of course, Florence was also out to explore, not follow Celnes' scent, he got winded out in different directions but eventually ended up in the same place as her. Looking up at the stairway that lead to nothing. That was another one he was curious about. Either way, the wolf moved to the woman.

"Hello!" A confident tail-wag and a cheerful voice.

"Hello Florence," she greeted back, looking down to the stone-path to Florence. In a way it was like a tickling to her prideful heart, as it felt like a true throne. Wolves don't have man-made thrones like birds can do, the best they do is rely upon nature itself. But even she knew nature could not wrap the stones like these, nor' a perfect path where it's not a slope upwards, but a easy-footing pathway. It brought questions to who did this..

Then she vaguely remembered @Ellinor mentioning of humans and strange words. Célnes, not knowing what humans are, slowly adjusted onto the thought like the two unknowns were linked. But, she could never sure. The warpway to this was by no' four-legged being, and she doubted a bear's intelligence can do much.

"It's mysterious, is it not?"

“And who might you be...?” A skeptical downcast of blinking earthy blossoms; a stern, distant echo that mirrored even hoofbeats atop sodden soils; Flynn stood proudly alongside his Queen, the rich spring breeze ruffling his mane as he brought her into his protective embrace. He was well aware the mighty need not any grievance, but where his honeyed eyes loomed did a very particular creaking of cheek pull upon his handsome face. Mayhaps this grimace brought a fondness to the optics of his matriarch, though he wouldn't have known, he was much too focused on pushing himself between her and the stranger he'd soon recognize to be Florance. “Ah, how rude of me. Hello, Florance.” The name of the lesser male pushed itself between his front teeth much like a tongue when it was attempting to dislodge stuck food.

“Awfully bold of you not to bow... Yes, what an odd greeting, but a greeting nevertheless.” Spoken with a sigh swirling in his maw, head turning to curtsy at his cousin. She'd never been out of his sight for long, nervous feet kept him ever-striding across new lands; searching for what was next to come. In his opinion, be it worn and old, there should always be something to offer her highness, whether it be news or a gift, and this time it was both. “It seems we've received a blessing; I've spotted a substantial flock of Suffolk ewes and their lambs grazing a few miles north, I figured I'd ask if a hunting party is due.” A meal fit for a pack of royals, he hoped.
