Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Warmth settles close to her skin, a small sigh leaving her as she shifts. This sleep is heavy and enveloping, and she finds it exceedingly difficult to shift the comfortable haze from her thoughts. The sunlight glaring against her eyelids is somewhat bothersome, and certainly a little suspicious; surely Lilla out to have woken her by now. But the soft scent of her companion is absent, and she can only assume it is earlier than she thinks it if none have come to lull her from sleep.

Something pokes at her side, and instinctively she rolls a little further, shifting her center of mass until she's away from the small disturbance, until she's—

Until she's falling, her heart having migrated up to her throat and her legs instinctively scrabbling for the ground. Her descent is quick, and she reaches soft dirt after only a few heart-wrenching moments. She finds her feet rather quickly, pivoting wide-eyed.

"oh."

Colourful stone rises all around, the heat seemingly grown a lot more suffocating sometime during her seconds-long fall. Sharp inhale, and then she stills, perching back on her haunches even while her lower lip trembles a moment. "oh." She's no idea what's happened, only that something is terribly wrong. She will wait here, then, until someone comes for her — mother, or father, or Lilla, surely, would be searching.

Hours later, as afternoon slowly begins to become evening, Wisteria remains primly rooted, fur settled back into place and trust unwavering.

Sullivan craved companionship, and so he had spent most of his time searching for somebody—anybody—to talk to. Zagreus's company had been short-lived, and he had been alone ever since. Sullivan had wandered through the desert and into the plains without coming across anybody. Sullivan remained hopeful that he'd eventually come across another wolf, but his optimism was slowly starting to fade.

His coat was thick and was made for colder weather, which did not bide well with the climate in the desert and plains.  He had not adjusted well and took several breaks throughout the day. It didn't occur to him that the weather was cooler at night, and so he remained in a constant state of discomfort.

He hadn't had a decent meal recently, and his stomach began to grumble as the afternoon started to become the night. It was about time for him to find a spot for the night, and he sought shelter in the shade of the mesa. Hopefully, he'd find something to satiate him before turning in.

Wisteria seemed to materialize out of nowhere, and it had caught Sullivan off-guard. He paused, observing her from a distance. "HEY!" he bellowed, feeling excitement spark within his heart. There was nothing that indicated that she was a mirage, but he needed to confirm.

"ARE YOU REAL?" he asked.

Time slips by, and gradually she finds herself in almost a mediative state. If she thinks about nothing, she can't be worried or scared. There's no sense in it, anyways, for her family and pack would never let her go unfound. The yell comes suddenly, echoing against the stone, and she starts, flinching away from the sound. It is more shock than fear; she's not been yelled at before. It's something to add to her growing list of uncomfortable new things.

She rises to her paws, her hind limb twinging uncomfortable as blood and feeling return to it. Discomfort furrows her brow as she pivots to face the yeller, just in time for him to do some more yelling. Ears flatten in a brief flash of irritation; this, however, is incredibly rude, and she rights them atop her head as she feels a twinge of shame. She realizes a little belatedly that the stranger is a man, and she is alone and unchaperoned, and though that thought sends a jolt through her, she most certainly will not yell.

She closes some of the distance between them, though making sure to allow a sizable berth to exist. "I am — I'm Wisteria. I'm lost, somehow — do you know where we are, sir?" Despite his yelling and her being unsupervised, she is glad to know she isn't alone here, and the wave of her tail reveals this.

She was real! He felt so relieved. And excited.

"OhmygoshIthoughtIwasalone I'vebeenaloneforsolongandnowyou'rehere!" Sullivan exclaimed. His tail wagged side to side, and he angled himself towards her as she approached.

"HiWisteriaI'mSullivanI'msohappytomeetyou!" he greeted. "Doyouknowwhereweare? Idon'tI'mactuallyprettylostandalonerightnow!"
