The days were long, seemingly blending into one blurry film that the russet outlaw couldn't escape from. And when he quietly drifted off to sleep during the night, he didn't expect almost a month to pass. Time sure did move differently in this place. Back home, he'd age like any other man, another day crawling toward the inevitable.

But those days gave him an energy he missed—the adrenaline that came with avoiding the law, the peace he felt when riding out in Big Valley, and even the fun he had messing around in the Valentine saloon. Cal missed those days.

"'Nother day. 'Nother loss." He grumbled as he rose from his chosen home, a small thicket hidden within the glade. Callahan never really left the Glade, finding no reason to do so other than to track down a deer he was hunting. Nothing interested the man, not even hunts these days. Callahan longed for days of excitement, for the life of an outlaw.

Callahan prowled through the meadow, the golden fronds brushing against his darker limbs. His tail swished over the grass, releasing the subtle scent of yarrow in the air. Even now, he remembered the days he spent hunting down the tall plant to create tonics. Maybe he can do that again here.

But when an unfamiliar scent wafted towards him, his morning bliss died away. Just great.
