Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Much as he loved home, Ries occasionally felt the need to wander. Not far - hopefully never again - but into the surrounding territories to see what he could find. There was only so much patrolling their one little mountain that he could do without going out of his mind.

So he walked. Across plains and over hills and small mountains, to places he’d never visited before. Not excessively far from home, but far enough to satisfy his wanderlust. If he wanted to go back, he could be there in a matter of a day or so.

Today, he’d crossed a mountain with a path that was like an obstacle course. Nothing too treacherous, but something fun that kept him on his toes. He hardly even tripped going down the other side, too, which he was quite proud of.

The hollow he discovered was, sadly, void of any real color, but Ries was willing to bet if he came back in a couple months, he’d find flowers and plants galore.

There was, however, a delicious scent coming from somewhere deeper in the hollow. Ries padded along after it, and was surprised to find an elk carcass in near perfect condition, save for a few chunks taken out of its gut. Had a wolf killed this, or were there other creatures lurking about, waiting to get hungry enough to revisit their meal?

Ries wasn’t sure if he was hungry enough to chance it, but he did linger, curious to see if the chance of a free meal brought anyone else in.
