Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

These two were... concerning easy to pair up with one another. Renier only wanted someone small and beautiful, something that was easy to find in women - while Amalthea had absolutely no traits desired other than "alive". It made her anxious but perhaps they were honest with how easy going they were and this would work out!

Still, she couldn't help but be concerned.

The little woman insisted on bringing her own gift and so Reiko made sure that Renier would bring one himself so he didn't walk in empty pawed while his date brought a thoughtful trinket for him. She took her time to look around Tsukiishi for a stone that she thought Amalthea would like. One that matched her moon-lit appearance and love for the moon (that was so obvious even Reiko caught up to it) and made sure the man will bring it on his date.

Their spot was magical. Fitting for someone spiritual as the silver-backed woman. It smelled of herbs and early blossoms. Lit by bioluminescent plants with the backdrop of a large grey stone at the base of a small mountain. For them, she offered a light meal. A couple fish, one each to eat - a treat the Empress herself enjoyed and had a hard time letting go.

Hopefully they too will enjoy the fresh fish, kept fresh for them in this cold winter climate.

This event was an easy way to find a wife. He expected the small woman to find him a suitable match, one worthy of his name. Renier did not think there were many options, but anything was better than a relative.

Ren snorted as he came up to the chosen location. Gods, this was pitiful. Everything so pretty, so feminine. What a bore. But upon seeing his date, he figured out why this place was chosen. It was meant to appeal to the woman, of course.

"I was told you like these kinds of things." Renier sighed, casting a glance at the woman. She was pretty enough. Young too. She'd be a good wife in the eyes of the elders. But judging from how thin she was, she was probably sickly. He just hoped it didn't affect fertility. He hated having a wife that couldn't give him the heirs he needed. The man dropped the light-colored stone at the woman's paws and shifted to stretch his body.

"Is that stone for me?" Ren feigned interest in the woman's gift, though honestly, he didn't care. He just wanted to see if she was pure and able to carry children. He didn't really care what her interests were or what she dreamed of. He didn't even care if she spoke or not. But he did want to see just how easily he could get into her head. Ren had been good at getting into the minds of those weaker than him; his gifts had also made it easier. But now he was mortal, weak. There was nothing here to keep him above the rest. "It's beautiful. Like you." Gods, he hated playing this stupid game. If it were up to him, he'd already have her beneath him, but he was not in Hirano, no Yoon, lands. This was not his homeland, but the land of mortals. And he was a god without power.

She had come to the spot early. A day or so and avoided the location where the Empress' trail was evident. Amalthea was enraptured with the glow of the blossoms, the ones that glistened around the falls and she took her time to familiarize herself with such a magical spot. She was certain that the great mother was guiding her here this whole time from across the lands with which she had woken up in many months ago.

Why she wasn't certain. Amalthea wasn't all too interested in being wed to another, but ultimately if that is what She wanted, then Amalthea would do anything if it meant to fulfil her duties to the great star above.

In her mouth she carried a stone. Washed by the shores of a nearby river. The way it caught the moon's light attracted her to it along with its smooth surface. To her, it was perfect. A little piece of the moon itself found on the mortal grounds for her to find. The perfect gift for a potential partner - if that was what to happen here.

The time had come and she began her short journey to where she was scheduled to meet the other half of tonight. A few petals clung to her coat as she wandered through the underbrush, glittering like the stars that clung to Her sides as well. Once making it to the meeting place she silently observed the man. He was large. Healthy looking. Confident with the way he spoke to her. But there was one thing that concerned the young woman... he was not blessed by Her and lacked any silver in his coat.

Holding back a disappointed sigh, she smiled anyway at the gift he had brought in return and offered hers by pushing it toward him. “We will see how much I treasure it after tonight.” The words were said softly. Not wanting to build his hopes up too high she kept it honest. “I'm Amalthea. I have travelled from one sea to the next for tonight.”
