Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

She'd been out and about in this new place ever since she arrive here. Never stayed in one place for too much, never forgot a face. Some encounters more memorable than the others. And to be honest Hoth had left quite the impression on the woman. Shoulders rolled at the idea and she shook her head slowly-- Her steps were halted by a large drop of rain crashing onto her black nose. The sudden coldness and wetness causing her to shake her head to get rid of the uncomfortable feeling. She even took a step back. Another drop landed right in front of her feet and another on her head. And then another and another.

The rain came so suddenly, she didn't have time to react. Usually water didn't bother her, but water to this extent was.. well, let's say it was uncomfortable and troubling. It was a warm afternoon just moment ago. Or maybe she was so lost in thought that she didn't feel the slight change in the wind. The soft coldness that clawed at bare skin.

She continued to push forward through the heavy rain and gradually increasing wind until her eyes widened at the twisting gusts of wind in the distance. Ah, fuck. She cursed in her mind and turned on her heels so she could get the fuck away from here. She knew that if the tornado looks like it's not moving, then you should definitely run for your life. And like this wasn't enough, a loud crash and a strike of light above head caused her to halt again and look around. She had to find shelter if she wanted to get out of this pitch alive. It wasn't the first tornado she had lived through, but she didn't want it to be the last either. Shoulders rolled and muscles tensed as she pushed off from her spot and tore through the rain in a run toward the small mountain she was circling. There had to be a cave somewhere in the rocks, for sure. She just.. had to find it.

As he was wont to do, Ichor wandered. Rolling seas gave way to sturdy mountain within an undisclosed amount of time- Ichor hardly cared to track it anymore. After the thirty-fifth day he'd stopped counting, for there was little point in keeping track of such a linear thing as time. It would not stop at any certain point, and it'd drag him along anyways. His mind oft wandered on these types of journeys, anyways, looking to the brilliant skies and the gnarly branches, marvelling at the loping deer and scrawling butterfly. Life was a gift in moments like those, and his burdened might felt lighter.

But beneath the grey cloak of clouds that plundered the sky, these feelings soon transformed into an anxious flutter he could not escape. Ichor could taste the wet on his tongue and feel the beginnings of static on his rising hairs. So he was not surprised when the clouds broke to pummelling rain and howling winds, as abrupt as they were. They buffeted him so much that he stumbled at first, skillfully maintaining his footing with feline-like grace.

He looked to the skies and then looked behind him. Looming in the distance appeared to be a funnel of air. Ichor did not know a name for it, but he knew the dread raking its talons through his belly.

A bolt of white shot past him, and Ichor focused his gaze on that instead. Another wolf who had gotten good idea to flee- he followed in her footsteps, streaking through the water marred noon with ears pressed to his skull and eyes swuinting.

Salvation came in form of a cave which he barrelled into, claws skittering against floors and the sound of it echoing against the walls. Finally in a dry place that did not threaten to be torn asunder by cruel winds, Ichor sat himself down and exhaled deeply.

Freyja hated being this far from her brother, but the woman craved adventure. She wanted to see the new world and experience the freedom it granted her. Freyja had grown used to being stuck in her home, awaiting the return of her people. But she wanted more. And the raven had led her here.

The flash of black against the morning sky was a sign of above; Freyja knew that within her heart. She learned the raven would never lead her astray but instead to something good. Dagur brought the raven to lead her, and Freyja knew better than to ignore a sign from the Gods.

However, it seemed her faith had led her astray. The wind had begun to whip her fur against her face, and a chill began to set in her bones. The woman had never seen anything like that in her lifetime. Was it Njörður? Had she upset her? Dread began to crawl up her spine and sink its teeth in her throat. Freyja followed the raven's shadow towards the mountainside; the howling of the wind brought a renewed speed to her step. The winds nipped at her heels as the cold began to follow in its wake. Noting the flash of colors towards a darkness within the mountain face, Freyja followed and entered the cave some minutes after them.

"Are you both alright?" Freyja asked softly, her lavender eyes scanning the other inhabitants of the safe haven. She never ventured into these types of places unaccompanied, but she was desperate. The coming storm would wreak havoc on anyone in its way, and she would not be caught unaware.
