Ivory's tail flicked. Her eyes fluttered open as she stretched out her limbs. Her bones ached as if she hadn't moved in weeks. Ivory closed her eyes again, willing the dull gnawing to stop. She remained still for a moment, but when it was clear that the lethargy was here to stay, she forced herself to open her eyes once more.
Colours twisted and warped in front of her eyes. Clouds of different coloured fog appeared and disappeared, and the ground tilted on its side. Blinding white light made Ivory flinch. She slitted her eyes and stared intently at her own paws, something she was sure weren't an illusion. The land snapped back to its axis, and Ivory looked up.
This wasn't her home.
Yellow-green grass was fanned out around her, bundling around willowy trees. Her eyes widened as they trailed up to the canopy of wisteria flowers, a soft breeze rippling the pink and purple blossoms. Ivory slowly climbed to her paws, craning her neck to sniff the flowers.
They were so pretty.
Broken, distorted memories swam in front of her eyes. Or were they just dreams? Nothing seemed like it could be real, but neither did the forest in which she stood now. The blossoms smelled so sweet, so soft. She could scent safety in the branches, but she knew, she knew that this wasn't a place she had been before. Everything was blank, concealed by a haze in her mind. There wasn't anything there. There wasn't anything she could draw from to work out where she was, who she was.
Ivory blinked, shoving those thoughts far away from her. She dropped her head and spun around in a circle, inspecting her surroundings. Tall green and red trees, perfect fruit hanging from the branches. Soft waves of wind rustled the leaves and petals.
Quiet birdsong echoed from above, and Ivory tried to croak out a response.
"H-hello," she rasped, voice coming out harsh and painful. She tried to clear her throat, hacking on something that wasn't even there.
