Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

A bird, no, a comet rocketed down to the shores, hitting the ground with a burning intensity. And yet, as if nothing was the matter, something unfurled from the molten, sizzling dirt; it grew with each moment that passed, until a hulking form coated in swathes of sanguine shadows stood there, gold eyes blazing as brightly as the hellfire comet that had borne him here. A faint sizzle from the fringes of his fur filled that silence, the scent of leather and charcoal flooding the air.

Slowly, monstrously, he stepped from the smoking crater, breath clouding from his nostrils as if he were a dragon, pausing only to take his bearings and sweep into flight. Where he was, the demon could not have said; he could only take in what lay in his line of size. Massive pillars of stone rising into the air as if the claws of some demon reached up from the bowels of hell to catch him. A mountain in the distance, and the endless ocean to his left. Even here, he could smell the thick, salty breeze of the ocean.

This time, she knew how she had arrived here. The mountain had spilled out into the lands with jutted stones and although the snow did not reach here, it seemed like the peaks still influenced the land in that way.

Yet perhaps that was why the ice did not reach here.

Something like a radiant flash, come and gone before she had processed it fully. The scent of charred leather whisked into the air. Starkly different from the scent of ice and stone. The thing — man? — that crawled from it was otherworldly. She might have confused him for one of the tall stones had he not began to move.

“Halt,” A command and she wondered if the beast had brains to heed it. She was not as ferocious as her kingly cousin, unfortunately.

Oh if @Lucian could see her now...

His eyes roved, searching for his target, pinning themselves onto her pale form. Her voice was so loud here, in the quiet night air. Was she speaking to him?

He breathed, deep and full. He moved, one step at a time, closing the distance between them. Golden eyes dared her to strike out at him, to try and slow or stop him. That was the command she had given him, wasn't it?

“What was that?” He asked in voice made of rumbling bass, another pointed and wholly deliberate step taken forward towards her.
