Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

His waking was uneventful and quiet. Drab. Boring. Nothing like the fanfare that the prince deserved; he had no doubt that his brother likely received all the attention, as he always did. He was not jealous, no, but more... aware that Mavros tended to be the star of every show, the idol placed upon the pedestal, the golden child that could do no wrong. No, not jealous...

Resentful.

Abraxas huffed as he stood upon the chasm's edge, contemplating his life. He wondered where he was, of course, but that did not bother him much. Only the fact that he was wrapped in a quiet that he felt was peaceful. Serene. With no one here in his vicinity, he could be at ease. He could relax, rather than having his guard up constantly and consistently.

With a deep breath and the hint of a smile, the man turned and began to walk along the uneven edge of the gap rift that yawned between the two lands, the moon overhead casting a silver light over the Silent Prince.

Astoria woke with a start; her paws kicked up a small dust cloud as her eyes snapped open. She couldn't understand how she got here. Where was the snow? Her siblings? Everything had changed so suddenly, and for some reason, she was cast away to the south.

The sight of a distant mountain brought a faint smile to the girl's lips. She'd be able to return home; she was sure of it. Perhaps this was all a dream, a very vivid dream. It had to be.

"Soon. I'll return home soon." She whispered, her azure eyes trailing down to her paws. It'd be an arduous journey, but Astoria had to get there. She needed to reach the mountains; her heart needed to be there. It would be a memory of the past, a safety the girl needed in an unfamiliar world.

Storia was once again alone; she had figured as such when she woke without a sibling or parent. The girl wondered what she had done to deserve a new life with little to no memories. Had she committed a sin, disgraced her family name? She could not remember what had happened before she woke up. Her mind was tired. Tired of trying to piece together the images in her mind. At this point, the girl was tired of trying. She wanted rest and a meal. Astoria would put her body first, her memories second.

If only she knew where she was.

In the silence, no anxieties lifted to tug at his thoughts, to drown him in misery. Here, away from his brother, away from his family and their kingdom. Theirs. Had it ever been his? His steps paused, an ear flickering as he heard something in the distance, thoughts embittered towards his memories of then and them.

No. It had never been his kingdom. Only his carrot, dangled just out of reach as long as he could remember. And now, it was all gone.

All of it.

Gone.

Abraxas could have skipped in glee. No longer would he be put down, or restrained. No longer would he be regarded as second best, almost as good, less than.

He was so happy, so distracted, he almost walked right into her.

The girl felt lost in this land, the earth unfamiliar beneath her paws. The slope was odd. Even the air was different. The frigid chill she had grown accustomed to was gone. Instead, the air smelled like nothing. Except now, there was a scent in the area. One that made her pause and drag her eyes around her surroundings. One moment there were trees.

And then suddenly, this man was practically on top. "Use your eyes, sir!" Astoria huffed as she turned with narrowed eyes. The girl was prepared to tell off the stranger who almost knocked her over but was stunned by eyes that held the seas themselves. The man was striking, cloaked in a coat of blues and greys. Though the girl kept a strong mask on her face, she was shaking. She really hoped he would reply with words and not his teeth. But Astoria had no qualms resorting to it, even if she lost. At least she could say she tried.

He bared his teeth at the sharp admonishment, not having expected anyone to interrupt his rare moment of glee. His head pulled up, offended and irritated that someone not related to him, not ahead of him in line, not above him thought that they could correct him.

“Perhaps do not lay across a path, you flea bitten curr.” Teeth clicked with each biting word, ears turned back against his skull as he looked down upon her. She was gorgeous, yes, but she was likely as vapid as all the other pretty court girls. And that's all they were, too. Girls, rather than women. Were it not for the fact that his whoring about had angered his parents so greatly, perhaps he would not have known the difference between the two.

“Get up, girl.”

The girl defiantly lifted her chin, fixating her frigid blue eyes on the man. While he was a sight to behold, his attractiveness would not save him from her swirling anger.

"Mind your tongue, you oaf." Astoria snapped back, her ears swiveling back as she stood her ground before the enraged male. Astoria would not allow this, this boy to speak to her in such a manner. She was a Catton, and her father did not raise a weak woman. "Perhaps you need to watch where you are walking." Storia bared her teeth as she allowed her eyes to scan the man's towering physique. While the girl within her wanted to admire him, her brain refused to see him as anything other than a brat.

"Arrogant boy." She muttered under her breath, though she truly did not care if he heard her words or not. Astoria had met plenty of this type in the ton. She recalled the first one she met last winter, a man who was so sure the world revolved around him. And called her the very thing this man called her. Girl.

And the very sound of it leaving the man's lips made the storm within much, much worse.

His lips peeled back in an ugly snarl, his eyes narrowing menacingly. How dare she. The Prince would close the distance between them quickly, snapping his teeth on the empty air between them; he would allow no one to speak to him that way, not even pretty, vapid girls who didn't know any better. “My tongue is not the one in danger of being removed.” Her was not Marvos, he did not let women slide free when they said stupid things.

“Now get out of the way, unless you have any other stupidity to retch from your insipid mouth.”
