Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Grief. It burned in her chest, stinging hot tears in her eyes. Her cheeks felt damp, wet streaks darkening the fur there.

It started simply. The pungent scent of rot pulled Gjalla's attention from her task of light scouting. A carcass, its pelt painfully familiar - patches of silver and charcoal. Her brother's once vibrant form was cast into the dirt, struck down by the brutality of violence. The flesh torn from his body - flies buzzing around the remains.

The moon cast over her back as she stared down at it, a twist of limbs. Pale eyes traced the lining of his decayed face. Her mind blinked with memories, the familiar shape of his features. The stars weren’t enough to soothe this pain.

It must've happened a while ago. Did they know? Should she say something, anything? Would it even be worth it, or would that make it hurt worse?

And now, gone was her love. She'd waited for him at night, but only the cold of winter joined her. She'd looked for him, but all she found was aching paws. Oh, wasn't this familiar? And now, she'd suffer the same fate as her mother.

The wind did not drag his scent through her nose or the roost. The exiled prince had gone without a whisper, without a trace. His absence was an ache that resonated in the hollows of her being, leaving questions unanswered and wounds unhealed. Their once-shared den felt empty. It echoed with the ghost of his presence, left biting cold.

She remained there for a while more, but as the night wore on, she gripped her faith tight and begged with it all the way to the clifftops to bring her clarity, even if it never would.
