Welcome to Canis Major

a wolf and animal rpg (role-playing game)

Canis is a writing community for play-by-post (forum-based), freeform roleplay set in a fictional dream world in the intrusion fantasy genre. Most characters on Canis are wolves; many play elements are focused around wolves and canids, but the world makes room for a large variety of other animal characters such as dogs, horses, cats, bears, deer, and many, many more.

Our community is focused on flexibility, creativity, and collaboration. That boils down to a few important features:

  • There is no set activity requirement to write
  • The setting and plot are member-created and staff-supported
  • The game is continuously improved to increase fun and decrease stress

Something was wrong. She couldn't quite place what it was immediately as her senses slowly returned to her, beginning with touch. Pain hammered at her head, indicating that she'd struck something rather hard with it. A low groan rumbled in her throat as her eyes cracked open just enough to let light in before squeezing tightly shut again. Just that sliver of light had sent a shard of agony spearing deep into the depths of her head. She was definitely injured.

As she allowed her battered body to remain prone, her mind slowly became aware of the scents carried on the light wind. Tattered ears swiveled back as her nose quivered slightly, drawing those scents across her glands and trying to place them. The air here held none of the heavy salt and humidity of home, nor could she pick up any trace of the familiar scent of Halcyon. Instead, the air held hints of snow and pine that only increased her confusion. Had the sea somehow swept her into Verglas Rose territory? Even as the question crossed her mind, she somehow knew that the answer was no.

She wasn't in Verglas Rose territory. In fact, she was certain she wasn't even in Sapinda anymore. Another groan rolled from her body as she finally opened her eyes fully and lifted her head, trying to ignore the way the blurry landscape around her tilted at the motion. Where have the gods dropped me? And why?

The gods had a funny way of doing things, truly. They had deposited many upon the slopes of his mountain, with nary a clue as to where they were, or who he was. It was just as rare for him to know who they were, though he treated them all the same, put them through all the same trials, held them to all the same standards.

So to come across a scent he knew, a scent that tickled the back of his brain enough that he instinctually turned to follow it and find the owner. His pace moderate, the man loped easily across the snow, covering the distance to find, find, find, find

Snow flew up from his paws as he skid to a stop, hot breath pluming in the cold air.

She lay there, prone, aching… unknowing.

He knew that scent. Knew her heart. Knew that he had all but thought her gone, lost to whatever world the gods had plucked him from in favor of placing him here.

“Aesira,” He would all but whisper, frozen in his place upon the mountain.
